  1. Removed space saver. Drone unchanged. However, while coasting on a downhill, very, very smooth stretch of tarmac I noticed drone had gone. I tried accelerating and immediately the drone returned. Took foot off the pedal and drone disappeared. I conclude from this that the droning is attributable to the engine/exhaust. Ah well, don’t suppose there’s much I can do about that.
  2. Finally, someone answered my question. Thank you, Stonekeeper👍
  3. I don’t know if it has or it hasn’t. Hence my question: How do you select Eco mode????
  4. How do you select ‘eco’ mode???
  5. Tried manual mode. Couldn't tell if any change in drone, as increased revs predominated. One other thought has occurred. When I collected the Karoq it didn't have a spacesaver, just an inflator kit. I swapped that for a Kamiq spacesaver. It's not the same as the one for the Karoq - it's fatter. As a result the boot tray isn't seated around its outer edge, just sits on top of the tyre. I'll remove the space saver and see if that has any effect on the drone.
  6. Please clarify for me. You only use 'normal and sport'. Does that mean you have Eco mode but don't use it, or your don't have option of Eco mode.?
  7. Interested in you saying 'using eco for just popping around local streets'. Didn't know you could select ECO mode. Is it a feature of the Sportline DSG that's absent from the SE Drive DSG?
  8. Hi That link is to the Kamiq. We were aware the Kamiq was still available in 1.0L DSG. croquemonsieur was referring to the Karoq. It's not available with 1.0L DSG.
  9. Yes, the 1.5 ACT engine in mine has 2-cylinder mode. But, the drone isn't limited to when in that mode only.
  10. No. Mine is SE Drive. Fixed non-adjustable seats and cord/moulded parcel shelf.
  11. Note with interest you have the 1.0L DSG Karoq. Moving from the 1.0 DSG Kamiq that was my preferred choice but, at the time none were available in the spec I wanted, hence the 1.5L. Having read your post, if I could wind the clock back I'd have waited until a 1.0L came along. Other than some tyre noise normal driving in the Kamiq was pretty much a silent experience. That was replaced only when accelerating hard by a non-intrusive thrum. I liked that thrum 😊 I'm now going to keep an eye open for a 1.0L KAROQ appearing at local Skoda dealership and book a test drive. That way I'll be able to experience first hand. Anyway, notwithstanding, the Karoq is a fine machine indeed. PS. Haven't tried the manual mode I mentioned in previous post. Will though and come back with outcome.
  12. So, not just DSG, manual too! Just had a though: could it be resonance from the exhaust system? Next outing I’ll select manual mode. That’ll let me extend revs which, if the exhaust is the source, will change the resonance hence drone. I’ll report outcome.
  13. Anyone else aware of a droning sound? On journey home from the dealership I was soon aware of a muted but constant droning. This was in marked contrast to the 'drone-free' 1.1 DSG Kamiq which I'd had for the previous three years. I've had the Karoq now for a few months and, with the exception of the droning, I'm pleased. At this point I have a confession: Karoq test drive was exclusively in-town streets. Previous car was 1.1 Kamiq SE DSG. The three years with it had been a superb experience and I assumed the more expensive Karoq would be at least if not more refined. In some respects it is but the droning is a nuisance. And, I'm constantly aware of it at speeds above say 30mph. And it's not confined to spells in ECO ACT mode. It's ever present. So, what's the source? Initial thought was the tyres. However, on different and varying texture surfaces the sound levels/frequencies change, but the drone is ever present. Next thought: wheel bearing. Soon eliminated that by the standard check - left/right movements of steering wheel on smooth surface produces no change in drone. I have discovered however, in normal driving if I drop the DSG into neutral the drone seems to be eliminated. I say 'seems' because it might still be there but masked. What I can say, for certain, in neutral I'm no longer aware of it. Of course that doesn't solve the issue in normal driving mode. So, is it the engine? Or, could it be the DSG? I've not reported this to the dealership. It would be a waste of time. I can just imagine: 'We can't hear the drone you're referring to!' Obviously, I'm not alone in this regard. The droning is referred to in the Skoda Karoq Forum. So, is it an inherent issue with the 1.5 DSG Karoq? Or, peculiar to only certain examples? What do you think? Finally. Other than the drone the 1.5 DSG Karoq car is a superb machine. Eliminate this and I'd vote it most refined I've owned in over 63 years.

    Wheel spin

My local tyre guy uses winter tyres all year round on his personal transport. A few years ago I got him to fit same to my VW Polo. Improved the ride no end. Great grip too. Mind you I'm definitely no boy racer. When Karoq needs a tyre change I'll be going down the same road. On subject of wheel spin. I swapped from a Kamiq to a Karoq. Karoq is definitely more prone to wheel spin. But not such as it bothers me. Don't get impatient at busy junctions, though. Nipping out into traffic can be bit disconcerting🥴
  15. I notice the 'drone' purely because it was absent in the Kamiq. It's not something that irritates or spoils the enjoyment. It's just there. The Karoq is a superb machine.
  16. Got 1.0 SE DSG with a few added options on three year lease in March 2021. Best car I'd ever had. Owing to that I enquired in Nov 2023 about leasing another. I was in for a surprise - order lead time 12 months. So, 8 months beyond the March termination. What were the options? Place order for new Kamiq. Extend the lease for 12 months. When new Kamiq arrives terminate the extended lease. Terminate the lease in Nov 2023 - 4 months early with no penalty (Yes, I too was surprised). That sounded good but......no from-stock cars available. And no forecast as to when. Buy the car. With 10,000 miles from new, figure from Skoda Finance £18,120. I checked valuation from online sites. Best £15100. £3K less. So, no thank you. PCP a used Kamiq. Searched around the dealer network but couldn't find a suitable specced example. Finally, decided to opt for a used Karoq, 1.5 SE Drive. So, to get to the point of this thread; Is the Kamiq still the best car I've ever had? By a whisker, YES. The Karoq is every bit as refined and much quicker - 150bhp. The only aspect that lets it down in comparison is the 'drone' from the 1.5 engine when cruising. Around town it's not noticeable. But, on motor way it is.
  17. For interest my Karoq SE Drive has front sensors.
  18. I'll be interested to see how you get on removing old and installing new grill. I would have opted for a new grill but YouTube vids of removal/install put me off. Wrapping took an hour and a bit and other than real up-close view you'd not know it was wrapped.

    Karoq pictures

Absolutely! Not just the Karoq but Kamiq I had prior to, as well.
  20. I leave Nextbase dashcam connected via 12V socket and in Parking mode.
  21. Just spotted the USB at E. Now, there's something that makes powering up a dashcam a whole lot easier. Didn't know of that option. Will remember for the future. What does it cost?
  22. From Ctek brochure: 'The MXS 3.8 is a fully automatic ‘connect and forget’ 12V charger with 7 charging steps and offers selectable 0.8A, and 3.8A programs. The ‘Snowflake’ mode operates on the 3.8A program. It offers a wide charging range on all lead-acid battery types from 1.2Ah up to 80Ah.................'
  23. Ctek MXS 3.8 Charger is cycling through to Green zone - Indicating battery is not sulphated and is holding charge. However, multi meter shows drop from fully charged to 11.94V average overnight. I’ll keep a watch on it. Will pop into dealer next time I’m passing.

    Karoq pictures

Karoq SE 1.5 Drive DSG Black Magic As roof rail and window trim come in black as standard I decided to match grill surround. Used black gloss wrap.
  25. On last point. As I said previously; had it not been for intermittent stop/start I’d never have given the battery a second thought.
