  2. I'm confused. If you're asking for the policy documents then obviously you're not familiar with the policy - so how can you call it 'poxy' if you haven't read it? Anyway, doesn't matter what the policy says because that's not your issue. What happens with a warranty claim is the dealership will guess whether a fault is covered by warranty or not. If they're unsure then they'd have to investigate and that costs them time and money. What they'll do is charge an investigation fee and if the fault is found to be a covered by warranty, will charge that fee to Skoda. If however it's not a warranty fault, then you'll pay the fee. That's reasonable enough, it's standard practice with most commercial businesses. Apologies if I've misunderstood, but are you suggesting that they spend time checking your car and if it's found not to be a warranty claim, then you'll then take your car elsewhere to be repaired?
  3. Can I ask how much the dealer asked to retro fit this? As per above there are / were two versions you can/could buy - the basic lowline version and the highline system which had several features ( as depicted by the menu options on the above picture ). There was a significant difference between the two systems - the highline may have been more than double the price if my memory serves me right. It all depends on the headunit whether or not it can accept the highline version.
  4. 100% agreed however from a sales point of view, it gets you thru the door. A good salesperson will convince you you're better off buying a new car, a bad one will let you leave with that All-in-One package.
  5. Just gone to have a look at the mechanism again, it just shouldn't move however my best guess at what's happened? It's a large cover and there's nowhere for it to move unless it's struck dead centre. Even then it shouldn't move but having a look at the piston ( or lift cylinder to give it it's proper name, part no 565955965A ) half way down there are a couple of plastic spring tabs and what looks like locator tabs. If that's all that's holding the jet plunger in place then anything that hits the cover dead centre could be enough to move the whole unit. Of course the other possibility is the plunger is not fully retracted when the cover is in the closed position. If that's correct then that's a design flaw. Either way, it's such a cheap and nasty way of contructing a vehicle, worse still, in an area liable to damage. I was doing a disservice to that £33 primed cover when I said it was worth 50p, it's not worth 5p. it's thin as feck and has no proper strengthening ridges. It wouldn't cost Skoda a penny to correct this flaw, all it needed was a design engineer with half a brain. I really expected better build quality than that from VW Group let alone a car costing near £40k.
  6. If the headlamp washer was being used at the time then fair enough, easy to see why it broke off. However if you're saying the cover flap was in the closed position with nowhere to go, but it still broke the hinges then it's not just the plastic lugs that are of flawed design.

  9. Been there, seen it, done it. Had it on my old Octavia where I woke up one cold morning to find the piston fully out. The dealer checked the washer fluid concentrate which wasn't enough for winter therefore the water froze etc. So know all about freezing issues. But nowhere near freezing when it happened. Even if it had been, car was just serviced a few weeks earlier and they gave me the remainer ( almost a full bottle ) of the washer fluid concentrate they use. Was quite impressed when I saw the official VW washer fluid is rated -70c. I'd suggest at that temp their flimsy plastic hinges would break first. There's a slight update on my issue. Despite the dealership checking for damage and saying it;s only the cap, when I went to fit it found there's nothing to secure it to. So I'm in exactly the same position as you Saragen, it needs a full new piston. And I agree with you, such a poor piece of design. Have you any idea how your hinges broke? Any hints or tips re: fitting greatly appreciated. I'm still awaiting a phone call but at first glance I'd assumed it was a bumper off job? I'm just so confused as to how this could happen? Both covers were defo in place when I walked up to the car, a few miles after driving I exit the roundabout where the low winter sun highlighted the grime on the windscreen making it hard to see, I use the washer to clear the windscreen ( I'm assuming headlight washers came on at same time ), I arrive home and then find one of the caps is missing? I took the car back to the dealership, I strongly suggested the piston was faulty ( car only done 4000 miles ), they refuse to submit a warranty claim, I ask how else could this have happened and their theory? In the second or so the washer was active, something hit it. Well that something must have been made out of sponge because there's not a mark on the paintwork. There's more chance of winning the lottery than that happening. I'm then told that if it had been faulty from manufacture, as the car is 12mth old. it would have already failed. Eh? So why a 3yr warrranty? if a part fails, it only fails in the first 12mth? I obviously look gullable. He athen said that it's just like any other part of your car which can suffer damage. Again what's all that about? It's not like any other part, the piston it's protected behind the bumper, There isn't even any place for a stone or anything to be thrown up behind the bumper and damage it - it sits in it's own protective tube. As I see it there are only two possible causes - a faulty piston or misuse by someone trying to prise on/off the cover. As I say the car was only serviced a few weeks before but I very much doubt anyone had reason to go near it. It's a mystery to me.
  10. The thought had crossed my mind but unless it's another piece of German over-engineering then looking at how it mounts on the piston, I reckon there's a need for the cover to move.
  11. Breakers wanting £19 + del for part with scratches so by the time that's repaired and painted... And 37EU to have the part shipped from Skoda Parts then £33 from local dealership it had to be. £7.50 for paint aerosol from Halfords? Err I don't think so. £28 for aerosol repair kit from paints 4u ( primer, colour, clear coat ) or 36Eu to have Skoda aerosol ( colour + clear ) delivered. Or £35+vat to have it sprayed at a local body shop? No brainer So, £75 for washer cover . Note to self - when next using windscreen washer, make sure light switch is turned to OFF position.
  12. @Olderman1 @Bryfly I don't have a Kamiq so you're both within your rights to tell me to bugger off, but just looking at your posts where seemingly the download works for one person but not the other, both who're driving the same car with same infotainment. Apologies if I've missed this from your posts but are you both running the same software version on your MIB3 systems? It's just a thought but If both software versions are different, that may explain your differences.
  13. Just been reading the thread and I'm a tad confused. I think I'm looking at pictures of Kodiaq seats in the Kodiaq fourm, yet you keep refering to a Karoq?
  14. Thankyou for your reply but if you're going to hijack threads try and get your facts right. You're confusing MIB2 with MIB3. The whole point of over-the-air is it does away with the twice yearly updates, the map is live. But that's maps, SatNav is an application. what's it got to do with the operating system? I think you need to speak with your retailer. I don't have an issue with my maps, they're almost always up-to-date. I think you're totally wrong about having to pay for Skoda Connect to receive updates. You still receive updates whether or not your licence has expired, what you won't recive is over the air live traffic inforamtion - for that you'd have to subscribe to the service each year. Services such as remote monitoring is another application you have to subscribe to, live petrol prices etc. Don't quote me on this but I think MIB3 will continue to receive updates for 10years. Newer systems are inherently more complicated than the system they replace. It's called technology. PS I have Skoda connect, my system prompts me when an update is available, I install the updates. But when your car is serviced, indeed whenever your car goes to the dealership for any work, they're supposed to hook it up to the system which will download any upgrades. Given my car has just been to the garage, it's for the garage to explain why my system software is behind Billywizzo's identical headunit.

  16. That was my first thought but nothing looks like it's sheered. I've see a youtube video for a Golf Mk7 washer and the cover looks to be more securely locked on the wash mechanism, but the Kodiaq just looks like a thin plastic hook-type arrangement over a plastic stud. What I can't understand is if I was travelling between 60-70mph at the time when it was used, even if it was loose, air resistance should have been enough to hold it in place. I suspect the replacement is going to be nearer £50 than the 50p it's actually worth.

I had to visit dealer for something else today, asked if I could have a look at a used 2021 Kodiaq on their forecourt whilst I was waiting and it's exactly the same as mine, the clock freezes. How weird. Only thing I can think of is software version. Is your's the same as this?
  18. I've just noticed my cover is missing - it was defo there yesterday. I did use the windsceen wash on the way home last night so assume it came off then. I've found part no. had a check on internet, and when you include postage, the cover from Skoda-parts or anywhere non uk at least Euro40 ! That's for a primed cover only, you'll have to add painting costs to that. Anything I can find on auction sites are damaged so then would have to add repair costs. Seems dealer is the only option. Tad confused how the thing came off tho - seemed OK whenever I cleaned the car so assume it had to be fixed correctly. Is this a common fault? If it is I haven't heard of it before.

OK next question ( you're going to be thinking I'm doubting you Honestly I'm not, just trying to nail down that you have the exact same system ) Note: you can have a MIB2 system on a 70 plate car. Cars registed up to around sept 2020 will be the pre-facelift. MIB3 systems were fitted to 70 plate cars, those post sept 2020 - the ones with the latest style steering wheel. If you have a MY21 SE L, then I believe standard headunit is Amundsen - that's 8" one with the two knobs ( one is for volume ). You'd have needed to upgrade to the Columbus ( 9.2" full touchscreen ) on an SE-L to replicate what myself and others are experiencing. Is it definitely the 9.2" touchscreen on a MY21 SE-L you have?
  20. You defo have the MIB3 headunit ? ( i.e. you don't have a CD player ). Turning the info system on/off would change the time but the first part - just turning the engine off without opening the door freezes my clock. I also have a Karoq with the MIB2 Columbus ( i.e. it does have a CD player ) and that car works as it should - the clock display changes when the engine is switched off but the door isn't opened.
  21. It is true. It is, or at least was. only available on certain models. I suggest you search thru the forums as I remember folk adding bit's n bobs to their cars via VCDS on the virtual cockpit - I recall someone managed to add the 'Sportline' infortainment startup screen to their non Sportline car. ( Why they'd want to do this is a different story ). I suspect only cars earlier than MY21 can be changed via VCDS as the software on later cars are probably locked.
  22. I doubt many on here would miss rear heated seats on VRS or Sportline trim and would be happy with decent compensation. If they only offered to refund the cost of the option, I'd simply ask them to order me a new one and say they can have your current car back when it arrives. It certainly shouldn't be treated as a rejection, they failed to supply what you ordered. Will be interesting to learn who's fault it is.
  23. And the dealer never picked this up at the PDI 😲 that's weird in itself. How long have you had the car? Have to say I've seen things being left off the order sheet by mistake but if it's been factory ordered and delivered with the wrong or missing options then that's unusual. If it were me and they'd built the car with the front winter rather than the front + rear winter then I guess a very nice compensation offer would be acceptable. However if there was no winter pack in the front, they'd be ordering me a new car. Good luck.
  24. I'm a bit puzzled as to why a lack of paintcode would delay an estimate? And to be honest any paintshop who takes a paintcode from someone written on the back of a fag packet needs shot. And I'm not sure what this "I use local dealer" business is all about - are we talking about the local Skoda dealer? Dealerships don't paint cars, they put them out to the same 3rd party repair shops that everyone uses, the only difference being the dealership will add a % on to the bill for doing so. Professional paint shops won't need a colour code as they make the colour themselves. Think about it, if you take two extremes, the colour of a 1 month old Velvet Red car will be very different to the colour of a well weathered 15yr old Velvet Red car, but a professional paintshop will match each colour exactly. These days a special camera will take an image of the paint and the computer will select the correct amount of colour to mix. The pigment they used at the factory may well be different from the pigment they use at the bodyshop so it's never going to be an exact match. Skilled professionals will get as near as damned to that colour using little more than their eye, what marks out a highly skilled professional is their ability to blend the new colour to the colour already on the car. My father was a bodyshop painter for 37years and it's quite incredible what they can see with the naked eye. No need for paint depth measurement tools or anything like that when looking for accident damage, he can tell straight away where a car has been re-painted. Ps - As for touch-up paints... wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. It's impossible for the colour to be an exact match, more than often it's nowhere near the same colour. Only advantage of a touch-up is to prevent the metal rusting. And as for companies like Chipsaway - it really comes down to the skill of the person, some good reviews, some awful reviews, but honestly... they paint the car in the open air with dust particles and everything else to contaminate the work? If folk are happy with it then great - it's a quick solution, but come on - it's a bit tacky compared to having the work done in a proper paintshop.
  25. The wipers on all VW branded cars are the same, it's pot luck if you get good 'uns. My advice would be to first clean them with some neat screen washer fluid. If you need to replace them then don't buy more VW rubbish buy something like Bosch aeros. Outlets such as EuroCarParts usually have them on offer - you'll pay half the price of the replacements from your dealer for wipers that are x10 better. I too have just had my '70 reg Kodiaq serviced with just under 4000 miles on the clock - it's fine. VW discs are exactly the same as their wipers, quality is all over the place. What you're likely to be seeing on a car so new tho and defo on the cars in the showroom, is surface rust. If I'd been in your shoes I'd have asked why pay £335 for them to rust within a year? Given what you say, I'd defo contact Skoda and quote verbatim what you were told. I'm pretty sure they'll be now't wrong with your discs but there's enough evidence to suggest they were faulty at the point of manufacture. Was your car been serviced at the place you bought it? If so then have a word with the dealer principal and explain what you've been told by servce. If the discs on his showroom cars are showing similar signs of rust then you have a stonewall case that they supplied a product that was faulty at the time of sale and it's up to them to sort it out. ( they'll liase with Skoda to avoid paying the bill themselves ). It's usually on cars several years old that the discs need replaced. Same advice as with the wipers - why replace a poor quality product with another? Replace them with a brand name that has a reputation for quality, And have this done at a 3rd party garage - it'll be much cheaper than main dealers. One last comment on VW discs. It's good practice to brake heavy a few times when starting your journey - clears that surface rust.
