1.5Tsi manual: still kangarooing when cold

So a real fix will be a good remap from someone that knows what is doing, not just copy-paste a firmware from tuning file DB. I saw in my tests that in cold engine- a lambda of 14.7-14.8 is used and also a very high ignition spark retard (from -6 to -22). 1.-engine just started 2.-catalyst at 200c 3.-catalyst just reached to operating temp >375c 4. -And below is ~normal operation, after the catalyst heated to >375c.. from here (after 60-70 seconds from engine cold start, and the idle is below 800 rpm) the kangaroo should be gone or minimum If the lambda will be ~14 and the advance will be around zero, then the kangaroo will be gone or around minimum. You need to set lambda ~14 because most of the air-fuel mixture can condense on the piston/cylinder walls and will not reach to the spark zone to fully ignite. This is one of the direct cylinder wall guide injection problem in cold engine and low rpm. -one of the negative things will be a slower catalyst heating, more time to reach >375c -the other thing will be a slightly bigger fuel consumption in the first 2-3 min after cold start, and i think that all the people can ignore this if the kangaroo is fixed Please correct me if i'm wrong. -

here is the explanation of the cause of kangaroo, it is in the Bosch Motronic documentation.. Please check the "Motronic engine management" edition 1999, page-49-50. About engine warm-up and catalytic converter heating. There is the KANGAROO! -
-
Hi, here is the cause: lean warm-up and extreme retard spark. If VW will fix this then the engine and the catalyst will warm-up slower but the engine will work as it should. (no more kangaroo) They will not fix this because it will result slight bigger CO2 emissions

hi again, to check if new firmware is available for your ecu you can connect to vag.flashinfo.de and search your ecu part number (example: 05e906018ck). there you can see latest version and you can compare with your actual one. i have the latest: 1910, updated 6 months ago. (the factory default was 0863) now kangaroo is 90% fixed.

--that pipe is used to help creating the 'venturi' efect in order to work the new generation of the gas vapor purge. same system like in the newer ea211evo-DXDB. -
attached 1 file with the exhaust retard, sorry for the language Kangaroo-15tsi-dpca-ecu-v1910.pdf

Update: Hi, found that Kangaroo is related to the exhaust camshaft advance/retard when the engine is cold/when preheating the catalitic converter. It is because the ea211evo does not have a physical EGR, everything was made with the inlet/exhaust valve overlap in order to decrease NOx. So don't ask for the usual power remap (with the lambda and timing advance, like all do), ask instead for the exhaust camshaft tweak at low RPM and low driver demand (for less overlap with the inlet). SSP-253 info there, you can also check by yourself with a tester.

usually in short acceleration lambda 0.86 to 0.95 is used, only when the engine torque/power is reaching(or is almost) to the driver pedal demand - then the lambda is going back to 1 - 1.05 (and maybe ~1.55 to max 3.0 when you light driving) you can find more info in the SSP-253 --the TSI modes: homogen, homogen lean, stratified.

vw is forcing the engine to run at lambda 1 or more(lean fuel/air) on small acceleration request, that why you get less torque and you have kangaroo. i think that this can be fixed by adding 5% more for every value in the ECU fuel map. usually any engine needs (short term) a reacher fuel/air ratio in order to start accelerating, and in normal/constant driving is using lambda regulation only.

the engine code you can find it in the car registration/papers, 4 letters like: dada, dpca, dfya, dxdb. usually only the 150hp/250 Nm engines have the kangaroo problem. the others with 130hp and 200/220Nm are working better.

As I said before, there is no fault because according to the ECU all the parameters are not exceeded the maps. So please ask the dealer to connect your car to ODIS and to update your ECU rom. Please note your engine code (dpc, dxd) and old/new version of the rom.
