  1. Maybe it was faulty & they didn't want me to know & they may have locked that one off as well. No other E10 pump was locked off neither but I chose that particular pump because it was at the front. I actually said to them that surely the pump only goes back one way & I have 31 years experience of using petrol pumps 🤣
  2. Excellent idea I actually have some brand new ratchet straps. So, I will jack the lower arm & secure the spring with ratchet straps then use another jack with the wood as in the video to hold along with the straps & then let the lower arm back down & hopefully the strut will be free. Undo the ratchet straps then slowly let the other jack down.
  3. Yes normally exactly how I would think but I passed ownership of the nozzle back to Tesco is what I was thinking, the actual damage is a paint chip 2 thirds of the way down drivers side rear door with a tiny annoying dent about 3 inches above. I dont like to claim on insurance but could be very expensive because its metalic paint & they probably want to spray most of the drivers side to blend in.
  4. Yeah must have been resting against the locked off pump with the label on. just only if it could of held on for longer eh.
  5. They most certainly do but my argument is that I actually walked away after placing the nozzle back & already paid for my fuel at the pump, so Tesco property given back to them so surely their resposibility & whilst I was getting ready to leave it decides to fall off. Remember the saying 'the customer is always right' well apparently not in this situation
  6. Ah you also know about what happened then. Interesting that the same company supplies both garages fuel, I never knew that & I will be returning to Tesco from now on because its cheaper for exactly the same stuff.
  7. According to the manager, no the holder was'nt broken but the pumps are quite close together & the E10 on the left was locked off so could of been the reason maybe. Like I said to the manager, I thought it was in because why else would I have walked away back to my car, not my pumps so I assumed it was secure. I have not used Tesco for fuel for at least 10 years because they had water in the fuel years ago but thought I would give them a go because Esso is very expensive now & same price as diesel.
  8. Ive bought a set of laser strut nut sockets because my new struts have a 22mm top nut & its a torx that holds the piston on the B4s. I will use a 22mm pass through socket & spanner to do the initial tightening & then change to the laser socket so i can use my torque wrench. You are a great help by the way, thank you!
  9. I have all the correct tools for the torque values & I also have the knuckle spreader socket. My idea of jacking the strut out comes from this video
  10. Yeovil no longer sells to the public since when they reopened after lockdown.
  11. I have reused bolts on previous cars but never worked on a VAG car so thanks for letting me know & I might just go ahead with using the existing bolts. Did you remove the driveshafts? all other cars that Ive changed shocks on have just 2 bolts holding to the hub carrier & seem a lot less faff. I was thinking of jacking the front struts out of the carriers with a trolley jack, what you reckon? Thanks for making sense of the bolt issue & I think my bearings would be ok because my steering is very smooth & car has only covered 21k.
  12. Welcome buddy What model Skoda are you thinking of getting
  13. Thanks for this, just had a look & eBay item 174062917004 is correct for my car but only one in stock & I need to get all this done by Thursday or I'll need to cancel my alignment appointment thats on Friday. I tried TPS on Saturday because I need to get this done but they have closed the shop for the public. Out of interest would you happen to know the price from TPS compared to the price on eBay?
  14. Do you actually need to replace top mounts & bearings or are you just going all out the belt & braces way.
  15. I usually fill my car up with supreme 99 at Esso but last night I filled up with Momentum at Tesco. I parked a good 2 to 3 feet away from the pump so not to cause any damage & have plenty of room to move. The bay had 3 pumps E10,Momentum,Diesel. The E10 on the left was locked off & I used the middle pump for Momentum. Filled the car, put the nozzle back into the pump then went back towards the car to screw on the cars fuel cap. As I was screwing the cap up the nozzle fell out from the pump, it all happened so quickly & I rushed over to try & catch it but wasn't fast enough & I watched the nozzle hit my car. I then picked the nozzle up from the forecort floor & placed it back into the pumps holder for the 2nd time. Feeling a bit shaken I walked into the kiosk where 2 people were working thinking surely they must of seen what happened but they both denied any knowledge of seeing anything & thought I was going to pay. I told her that I paid at the pump & come to the kiosk to report damage to MY car from THEIR pump. Both attendants looked at me as though I was joking & I told them to check the cctv if they didn't believe me. They tell me that they cannot view the cctv & called a duty manager. The duty manager comes & takes photos whilst I'm stood holding a torch to the car because she couldn't get the damage on her camera with the reflection. I had to make a statement of events & she took my registration number, my name, address, phone number, date of birth & even my email (like WTF!) The manager then says that she will phone me between 1pm - 10pm next day (Today) after viewing the cctv. The duty manager did phone me today & said that the garage manager is putting the incident down as 'Human Error' because its very clear on camera that the pump never clicked in the 1st time but did click in the 2nd time. I told her that I was a bit confused because the 1st time I put the pump back, I walked away & she 100% agrees that yes I did walk to the back of my car (me screwing the cap on). Me: So, why is it my fault because I put the nozzle back & not my fault it didn't click in Her: Well yes but its human error because you never put it back correctly & it didn't click in Me: What happens know then Her: Nothing we can do about it Me: I want the cctv of the incident please Her: Not something we usually do but you can email & request a copy Me: I certainly will be requesting a copy, thank you for your help. I get another call a couple hours later from Tesco head office. The guy was friendly enough but he also told me that it was human error. Me: Since you are calling from head office, can I please have a reference number & a copy of the cctv? Him: I can email you the reference number for this incident but not the cctv Me: I need a copy of the cctv for my insurance to see Him: Absolutely, I will include the email address for you to request it but your face will be blured out Me: Why will my face be blured & will my registration also be blured? Him: You will see the registration number but not your face because of confidentiality So you lot, who would you say is at fault here. Me or Tesco garage?
  16. I think the Golus alloys are the best looking 18" wheel for the Octavia & seen similar fitted on Audi's if thats the style you want.
  17. Search google for VW specialist (not main dealer) in your area.
  18. Have you actually tried changing to 5w40 because I think it could be that easy since you only got the issue after a service, do you know what grade oil has been used for previous servicing? How many miles has the car done?
  19. Any replies are a help because you guys that have been on here the longest will know more whilst us newbies are still learning. Are you trying to break a record of no sleep & have you spent your time wisely on this forum I wonder 🤣
  20. I'm changing the springs on mine to the Eibach pro kit for a couple of reasons, I only want to do the job once & feel using the original springs is false economy if one snaps & i have to do the same job again. The other reason is that the genuine springs are more than £100 each & the Eibachs cost me £175 for front & rears & have 5 year warranty. Eibach seem to think that its probably them that make the original springs on my car because it has what Skoda call sport suspension but would be more expensive because of having to special order them.
  21. The new shocks came with new nyloc nuts so I'm ok for them its just the rest of the fixings that I need to get my hands on & I'm hoping my local TPS will sell them to me.
  22. No never been to Hendys, I'm getting my alignment done in Southampton because of the good things Ive heard about them & I'm doing the job soon because I have to go to Southampton next week anyway. Achieve 2 important things in 1 day.
  23. Yeah I think its going to be best to replace all the fixings, I will try my local TPS tomorrow but I'm unsure if they will let me have them cause I'm not a mechanic in the trade but I'll give it a go.
  24. I'm going to a place called Wheel alignment solutions in Southampton & I have it booked in for next Friday at 3pm, its a distance to travel being 90 miles away but they are very highly rated on Pistonheads & I am taking my son back to Southampton University anyway.
  25. Thanks for the pic, at least I know what they look like now & what to expect. I will try & source some tomorrow & it could turn out to be a good Friday for me.
