Sounds good, glad you are enjoying it! They are a great drive, I have a long drive (Plymouth to Alton Towers) at the end of October, itll be the first decent run in mine ap hoping for similar. Mine has had one gearbox service already, its definitely not going to harm it and I think its good preventative maintenance.

Looking for a few vcds settings for my car.
Not sure about parking sensors, but the first 2 will probably be available as one click options on OBD Eleven. Or have you got VCDS already? I had a look last night and certainly for pre-facelift Superbs its available.

Which engine/trim level would you have?
Id go for petrol. Diesels are fine, even for short distances but not for long term. With that amount of mileage over a longer amount of time I reckon you'd have some problems. Not considered the 190 petrol? Capable of over 30 round town and over 40 on a run. Although my wifes 1.2 TSI Leon gets 38 around town and 45 on a run and I reckon the 1.4 PHEV will probably get better!

I looked at the R-line too but might be your colour, the black contrast with the silver really pops on yours. I am looking at pedal boxes, its the only thing I can really complain about. Although 320bhp always works better than 272bhp 😉 Yeh they are, the estates seem to carry a £2-3k over a saloon and the boot is cavernous regardless. I had to have one quite well stocked, winter pack, sunroof, DCC, dynamic cruise, etc.

Lovely looking car, I looked at the Arteons before going for my new one but alot looked blander, is that a facelift as the front bumper looks more aggressive? I went a similar way with a Superb Sportline 272, drives well and goes well but throttle response is definitely off compared to the VRS. Nothing a pedal box wont change. DCC is a game changer isnt it?

Sunroof creaks/rattles solved.
To revive this thread, I bought a new to me 2018 Superb with 43k on the clock. The sunroof creaks were doing my head in. As above, it sounded like it had come from the front light area. Pushing on the trim around the interior light and front of sunroof revealed the same creak. The sunroof has at the front what appears to be a glass reinforced plastic trim panel. I popped the headlining down as per the above, but found this was rattling on high speed chattery stuff such as at motorway speeds. Either, its the edge of the headlining frame creaking against the plastic panel mentioned above or its the clips that hold it in. Having pulled it down I saw 4 plastic tags on the aforementioned plastic which fit into metal clips on the sunroof frame. A simple spray of some thick spray grease (if you use motorbike chain wax or something coloured be careful not to get it over the headliner) and gave a liberal coating on each tag and clip, as per photos below. Ideally, I want to pull it down more to put some proper grease on rather than spray lube as itll last longer. This has cured 90% of my creaks. I understand that others have different creaks and there are other solutions (greasing the rails with lithium grease, adjusting/tightening the screws at the back of the glass.

Thanks, its Moon White Metallic. First white car, luckily this has a hint of metallic and a hint of pearl which is lovely when its clean. I spent about 2 days de-tarring, cleaning, clay barring, polishing and waxing when I got it so it should clean easily going forward. Love the facelift front end and those wheels. I think they would really suit the white and black theme of mine. Might have to swap out the Vega's!

Not long enough to comment about my own experience of longevity. Literally weeks, turned up with just under 43,500 on the clock and Ive only done a few hundred miles. But no weird noises or feelings from the Haldex system. Car drives very well and I am enjoying it! My comments regarding sunroof creak and throttle sensitivity still stand, albeit I'd prefer Sport throttle mapping to be Normal for everyday use and a sharper throttle for Sport. I also have kept it in Sport suspension most of the time, even over speed bumps I find it controlled and well judged for most decent roads rather than uncomfortable whereas normal, comfort and eco are wallowy and a bit bouncy for my liking. But having come from an Octavia before and other VAG cars with the EA888 lump before that Ive got used to the pitfalls, rumours and problems. Some things that are 'common' for failure are just not as common as you'd believe too, like DSG failure. For example, many on the Octavia groups would hark on about the recommended mileage service for 6 speed DSG's but forget to mention the recommended time intervals. This would generate no mentioned problems, despite doing shorter journeys and potentially more damaging heat cycles. Motorway mileage is probably less taxing on a gearbox than lots of stop start town driving that is flicking up and down gears all the time. Although I'm sure lots will disagree, I believe there has to be a degree of a safety margin built into service scheduling, with some things being more sensitive to lack of servicing than others. Plans for mine include another Haldex service to be sure (like yourself) I already know the gearbox has been serviced once.

I do understand it, I was the same purchasing my last Octavia and wondering if the 4k over the mileage schedule for the DSG was going to cause problems. I had zero issues in 2.5 years of ownership. My current Superb is immaculate, but purchased by me at 43k and a late 2018 car with no documented Haldex service worried me. The dealer serviced it prior to purchase and to a certain degree I have to trust that itll be ok. As per my last post, there seems to be lots of variation in what people are advised and what they do.

But your point goes to show, like mine, that theres a massive amount of misinformation around and either the dealers arnt pointing it out to customers to have things done within mileage/time constraints or people arnt bothering to have it done 🤷

Might be now, like the earlier DSG units when VAG said it was lifetime oil, others had the sensibility to change it. Same as it seems with earlier Volvo Haldex systems which seem to massively differ depending year, version and car.

Disadvantages of the 276bhp car over the 190bhp version?
As someone who has driven both I felt the 190 underwhelming, but I had come from a 220 Octavia VRS. I feel the 272/280 version has a more obvious difference in driving modes with Sport being pretty gutsy and probably more than you will ever need. Mileage doesnt bother me much either, I do 5k a year. I wouldnt worry about the engines, these EA888s are very solid and in this form is de-tuned compared to something like a Golf R (306hp) The Haldex should be fine as long as maintained properly. If warmed up and serviced regularly you shouldnt see any issues.

Some Haldex's have strainers, some dont. Not sure on VAG stuff but I remember reading somewhere that the oil in a Haldex on a Volvo is meant to be lifetime oil for example. Glad you are happy with the condition of it. I wouldnt be overly worried about a year over the Haldex service for example, especially being 6k below mileage. The oil will be nasty but shouldnt cause any issues if changed now. Although I cant say for certain if it the Haldex would be fully covered under warranty.

Yeh, I get that. I've always had sportier cars (VRS, mk6 mapped Golf GTi before, Clio 197, etc) and the throttle response is disappointing for its power but not unlivable or undrivable. I'd probably go as far to say I could live with the throttle response on a day to day basis and in 3 weeks I've got used to it, but for the fun driving Id want more. I've always wanted more of a distinct difference between all the modes. I've also always felt VAG stuff is quite progressive with the throttle pedal. Albeit completely different I drive Hyundai and Vauxhall Astra diesels for work and they are far more linear. Give it a drive and see what you think, having never driven a Kodiaq I cant compare. Id be interested to know if this is a GPF model issue, I can't see why it would be as the 8hp difference it makes wouldn't account for it. As for the suspension, did they do the MOT? Id see if they would check it over and provide photos/videos. Id be surprised if it was an issue at such a low mileage. You'd be surprised what the dealer may do though, the one I bought mine from put 4 new centre caps on (RRP £80, daft!) and on top of a major service they serviced the Haldex, but to be fair thats more just abiding by the service routine.

I came from a MK3 Octavia VRS and I think a combination of the smaller IS20 turbo and more aggressive throttle mapping made it feel faster and pickup quicker at lower RPMs than the Superb. The throttle response is lacking, theres no getting around it. Its a shame they didnt separate the gearbox and throttle mapping for the modes because 'normal' on the gear box and 'sport' throttle are probably well matched. If I wanted to drive in 'sport' all the time I could, it means it holds onto gears more than it needs to, which other than being unnecessary for day to day driving also makes you seem like you want to race everyone and uses more fuel. This was also a reason I bought the 272 rather than a 190, the 272 is definitely quicker 😁 I have mine set to 'Individual' as everything is in 'Sport' bar the drive mode (gearbox and throttle) as this just seems work the best overall. Although disappointing you have to add to it, a pedal box is £200ish, you can make it as aggressive as you want and chop and change. I never felt the need on my VRS but on this I do. Its deceptively quick, I had a bit of fun on a short B road near my house and lets just say without incriminating myself to speed limits I was almost double without much hesitation or fuss. The AWD system just grips and goes. I've never been one for racing off the line, I've always been more of a fan of B road blasts rather than out and out speed and the Superb seems capable enough to keep me entertained. I did upgrade the rear ARB on my Octavia as they are woefully soft at the rear end, the Superb doesnt feel like that either. But it is a different beast, it is geared far more for comfort whereas the VRS will be more geared for fun and handling. Depends what you want and how you will use it, the Superb is enough for the once a month I manage to have a longer drive to my parents in the country and be more than comfortable every day.

If you did cut it off, could you not cut the very end off and superglue it or similar? It will be hidden by the look of it. Shame though!

Murrays Skoda in Plymouth had a lovely 190bhp 2020 model in Racing Blue with lots of bells and whistles for £22k. Had 25k on I believe.

I've just picked up a 2018 272 Sportline Hatch with 43k in the clock and love it. Biggest thing I'd aim for is DCC suspension, transforms a wallowy ride to controlled. Sport for me is just right, firm enough to have fun but not uncomfortable and I rarely change it into anything else. If it has a sunroof it WILL creak. Its the only disappointment on mine, Im yet to play with it. The throttle response is poor however, alot are adding pedal boxes to improve response which makes it a more responsive drive. The Octavia is nice, interior is lovely and they are rarer. If you are looking at more power, the Superb has more potential due to the bigger turbo. The Octavia will probably be slightly mote nimble. There is lots of issues with the infotainment with lots having problems that are regularly going back to the dealer.

If its not damaged it could be re-calibrated. Theres a few places that would do it, but depends if you are going through insurance.

I also started giving it a really good thorough clean. Interior was pretty clean but exterior was covered in tar spots. Started with a good degreaser, pre-wash and main wash. Unfortunately I had run out of tar remover and Halfords didnt have much choice except Autoglym stuff which was pretty poor. I managed to order some Autobrite Just The Tonic but had to wait for it to be delivered. I managed slowly to de-tar and go over with a clay bar the front, bonnet, all doors and roof. I then went over with Autoglym Super Resin Polish on a soft DA pad to give it some protection. Plan is to finish the de-tarring, go over with Menzerna Super Finish Cut and seal with Collinite 476s. - Doug's 2018 Sportline 272 hatch
