Hey all,

I've been using the forum for a few years with my previous MK3 Octavia VRS with a few choice upgrades.

I have recently moved on to a 2018 Superb Sportline 272 hatch in Moon White Metallic. I bought it from Station Garage in Horsham and Mark there has been very helpful.

Its low miles for the age (43,500) and they gave it a major service, Haldex service and changed the centre caps as the originals had corroded.

Its well specced (although not sure what is optional extras 🙂)

Winter pack with heated steering wheel

DCC

Radar guided cruise

Sunroof

Electric memory drivers seat

Folding wingmirrors

KESSY

3 keys

Probably more Ive missed! Loving the comfort and space. Its a lovely place to travel in.

On the day of delivery, bit dirty from the journey (approximately 3.5 hour journey, delivered to me)

Quickly found out it had a dent in the rear passenger door which wasnt obvious in the photos/video they sent 😞

A phone call to Station Garage and they have told me to get some quotes for paintless dent removal. Its not a guarantee but its positive that they will do the right thing.

I've never had a white car before, but loving the contrast of white with black spec.

Bought a few bits for it so far:

-LED white boot lights

-Genuine mats (didnt come with any, what kind of psychopath drives a car without mats! 😆)

-Rubber cover for key

-4 genuine wheel bolts and 4 covers (removal of locking wheel nuts)

Planned:

-Wireless AA/Carplay adaptor

-Bumper guard

-Black Superb badge

-Touch up paint

-Plain number plates

-Golf R rear ARB (slightly stiffer)

-A pedal box, looking at DTUK but open to opinions.

I also started giving it a really good thorough clean. Interior was pretty clean but exterior was covered in tar spots.

Started with a good degreaser, pre-wash and main wash. Unfortunately I had run out of tar remover and Halfords didnt have much choice except Autoglym stuff which was pretty poor. I managed to order some Autobrite Just The Tonic but had to wait for it to be delivered.

I managed slowly to de-tar and go over with a clay bar the front, bonnet, all doors and roof. I then went over with Autoglym Super Resin Polish on a soft DA pad to give it some protection.

Plan is to finish the de-tarring, go over with Menzerna Super Finish Cut and seal with Collinite 476s.

Dent removed! Jason from Autodentz was really friendly and professional, he made it clear that its hard to remove the dent completely without taking out crash structures in the door which is significant work.

The only ever so slightly noticeable bit is the factory crease is a little less pronounced in one area but its a huge improvement.

After a few weeks I have become more familiar with the car. Its an amazing all rounder, comfortable, spacious and more than enough power for day to day. DCC is a game changer and I tend to keep it in 'Normal' most of the time but firming it up in 'Sport' is as hard as it needs to be for UK roads.

MPG is currently around 28 which isnt bad. I have only been doing short runs except for a visit to my parents in the country. This allowed me to stretch its legs and see its perks.

It feels sharp, most likely the Haldex but the back end doesnt just feel like its following the front. This is my first AWD car and although I know its not permanent AWD, it hooks up and goes!

I still would like a sharper throttle response however. I am looking at OBD Eleven for some adaptions and maybe some long coding. I know theres an option for more sensitive throttle response which I am going to try before buying a pedal box.

Look at the beading too!

Lovely looker and the beading is looking great too.

Def get a pedal box. I'm sure they're all much of a muchness but I have Racechip XLR and its great - plug it in, download the iphone app and can control everything from there. I did have it on Sport+ but eventually put it on Race+ (most sensitive of all) and that's perfect for me.

i did the "Audi Throttle response" coding via VCDS, many many years ago - it made a slight improvement.

last year i got an EVC Throttle Controller - olly molly was that a huge difference and improvement!!   compliments the Stage 1 ECU and TCU tunes very nicely.

many have tried it and love it too.

i would highly recommend it.

Thanks gents, I think will go for one, I just didnt want to go changing too much too quickly. I know what I'm like, and I kinda already want to map it but as its PCP, I'm very reluctant for a multitude of obvious reasons.

I remember a pedal box making the car feel  faster even though it wont be.

I think it also wouldnt be as bad if the gearbox didnt want to sit at 1500 RPM everywhere but I appreciate its thinking of economy unless in sport. Maybe a TCU tune in certain modes (to change shift points - if possible) and a pedal box might be all it needs to be a better overall package without adding any power to invalidate warranties, etc. @JR RS, what did you have done for the gearbox tune?

The throttle controller doesn't change the idle rpm.

As for the TCU tune - I have the APR DQ250 tune. Details here.

I have the version that is targeted for the FWD (in my case 220 Superb), allowing "better" power delivery.

It pairs nicely with my APR Stage 1 Hi-torque ECU tune.

On the dyno it cranked out 223kw 530Nm, at the wheels, before I had the IE FDS v2 Intercooler installed.

I a throttle controller didnt change the Idle RPM, that was referring to the point the gearbox wants to change in normal driving.

I would be tempted by a TCU tune to change shift points, not sure how pointless it is without the power though.

I had an E36 328i (which were brilliant for tuning as there was so much you could do) - the mod that felt the most noticeable was removing the viscous-coupled radiator fan. Switch around thermostat and auxiliary fan switch from other 3-series models so all safe. It lifted so much weight/inertia from the engine that the midrange throttle response was night and day. Guessing similar sort of thing to a lightened flywheel - no power added, just on-tap quicker.

I did that for an e46 330D coupe, felt great.

But Id had a pedal box on a MK3 Clio 197 too, it was fly by wire but laggy and the pedal box transformed it.

TCU remaps make a lot of sense on their own as its another thing that improves the behaviour of the component which is sub-optimal comparatively. Look at all the benefits that the APR one gives you; the otherone on my radar is the TVS version - and they both have aspects that improve the longevity of the gearbox as much as help get standard/uprated power onto the road more efficiently etc.

TVS do a deal on price for both, so the cost benefit is there for both.

Another job ticked off the list, new coolant reservoir minus the silicone bag, bought from AW Tuning and supposedly a genuine bottle. Part number: 5Q0 121 407 M.

After removing the old one and draining it I could see the silicone bag in the main body so would have been easily removed but I didnt know if it was double skinned and hidden.

Easily fitted and some fresh G12 Evo to go with it too.

Yes buddy, it had 'Mit Silikat' on. I still have it, other than being a bit dirty and discoloured its fine though not sure what else to do with it. I've removed the silicone pouch. It looks basically the same.

Beat it to death with a sledgehammer 🤬  Chop it up with an axe, shred the remaining plastic into bits, melt it and then pour the molten plastic into the Skoda CEO's office door lock 👍

I wouldnt disagree! Such a daft design. Despite not wanting to spend lots of money on this like its my own (not on stuff thats not easily removable/reversible, well, not yet) this makes alot of sense for peace of mind.

My Octavia had 70 something thousand on the clock when I swapped that one out, but was thankfully ok. Always seems to be diesels that have more problems with them than petrols too from what I've seen on FB groups, not sure why.
