Superb iV vs 2.0TSi pros and cons
Hi all, I need an advice here, I am thinking of changing my Karoq and really consider a Superb, more space, more comfort on a road, quieter, well I hope it is all the things I mentioned. I am planning to take a test drive today of iV but I am also considering a petrol 2.0 TSi (190), don't want 1,5 as based on information I could find, it is not that much more economical. The questions I have are: What are the running cost for iV and 2.0 petrol, apart from fuel consumption, I expect 2.0ltr petrol to do 40mpg in a mixed run and 55mpg for iV (worst case scenario when do not charge it)? 1. Does 1.4 engine needs a cam belt changed? How much would it cost roughly? 2. I think 2.0ltr is chain driven, am I correct? 3. What gearboxes these cars come with, do they need oil change? 4. Brake discs/pads - are they identical in price? 5. Service costs, is iV much more expensive? 6. Suspension parts, like shock absorbers? If anyone can think of anything else please add additional spendages on any of the above cars. Many thanks all

What have you done to your Superb III today?
No, I bought it almost 2 years (June) ago, I didn't really notice that during test drive, as I said, it happens when going over bad big speed bumps and in every day driving it is usually ok. I took it to Skoda to check it but they said everything is fine (not surprise there, huh), gearbox reset did not help either. It drives me nuts when it stick to 1st gear, you either need to rev it (accelerate) harder than is needed only to slow down before the turn or just crawl on 1st gear for 20-30 meters until car decides to change to a 2nd gear. The mileage on the car was under 6k miles when I bought, now it has 27k miles and it still does it as it was 2 (almost) years ago. Only now, I can get out of PCP and hopefully get another car with decent gearbox, thus why I mentioned the cars above. On top of that I started to have a noise from the front, which is not constant like when you drive over potholes, it only can be heard when you go onto speed bump or from speed bump, like a clunking noise. Oh God, me and the speed bumps! May be the car tells me to sell it! Otherwise I am happy with Skoda, reliable, cheap to insure, cheap parts.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I do go over them very slow as these are massive speed bumps covered in potholes! Also, the car does kangaroo sometimes. I tried a few times to reset gearbox but it didn't make any significant changes to the way it changes the gear. It is good to know that it might be my car that does it. I hate it so much, even thinking of changing the car, I very much like a Superb but so afraid to get another DSG like mine, even thinking of getting a Lexus ES (also lots of space at the back) or Toyota Corolla Touring. I am having a test drive of Superb iV on Saturday. Apart from possibility of having a dodgy DSG a slow charging time putting me off, but still want to try it.

CVT you need to get used to, they are so smooth though, especially at lower speed by going over speed bumps or potholes. May be it is my Karoq DSG has a problem but I hate it, especially over large speed bumps - it changes to 1st gear and then need to be revved to 3-3.5k rpm to change to 2nd, awful! I had Lexus GS 450h before and it was sooo smooth.

10 months update-Karoq sportline 1.5dsg
I had the same rattle, passenger door. I had to remove the trim as that rattle was driving me nuts! It was a broken fixing for the wire that runs from the handle, not sure what part number it is but I know it is white in colour. I didn't buy a new assembly to replace it (not expensive but a hassle to swap) but used a thin stainless wire to secure it in place and no more rattle. Try to press the door near handle while driving and see if it makes the rattle dissapear. I have another rattle that comes from dashboard, somewhere from above the steering wheel, near speedometer (under) and at the upper dashboard shelf, no idea what it is but it only appears around 1500 rev/min! Annoying, very! Does anybody know what it can be and how I can fix it? I like your car colour! And I guess newer Karoq does have a better fuel economy compared to older model, as I am getting about 36mpg in mixed driving.

Diesel or Petrol
Last 3 cars we had I always was using All Season tyres during winter so 4x4 not really required. As you said, the car is heavier and more expensive to maintain, more things to go wrong, well unless 4x4 is needed then it is a good car. Anyway, at the last minute my wife changed her mind and at the moment she says she/we will keep the BMW (2 series) after PCP ends, she (I too, but I like changing cars/bikes) doesn't see the point of taking another car on PCP which is the same age as her BMW. I still don't get it, the trade in prices are crap, either for my Karoq or wifes BMW but the dealer prices are still high! Every car I looked at on Autotrader should be £1.5-2k cheaper to buy, well according to Autotrader Evaluation.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
Finally I had a chance to talk to local mechanic about changing the shocks to B6. Well, he said there should not be any issues with finance or insurance. Also, he changed a few shocks to a B6, and says it is a personal opinion but most owners found the ride much firmer and not what they hoped it would be. Basically he said, personally he wouldn't do that change. I still have an option to go for a smaller wheels though. Not decided yet, other things are coming into play - spring, biking season and crazy ideas if I should take anything for a test ride etc etc and what if I like it?! lol!

Diesel or Petrol
HI everyone, I am sorry for hijacking this thread but I think there might be no point to create another one. I am planning (tomorrow) to take for a test drive a 2.0Tdi Kodiaq, with DSG, 7 seats, the car for my wife. Also I am thinking to test drive a 1.5Tsi DSG, the advert doesn't say if any of these a 4x4 so can't tell. Guys, my wife does about 12k miles per year, mostly going to work to Glasgow and driving kids to football (thus a 7 seater), so I would say it is an average between motorway and city, the car is rarely fully loaded and occasionally gets 4 kids (plus driver). What would better to go for diesel or petrol (assuming she likes both), considering service prices and a real life mpg? Mostly mpg. Also, a diesel is a 69 plate and petrol is a70 plate (new steering wheel), is there more pronounce differences between two models? They are both SE L and as far as I can see no extras fitted. Thank everyone in advance.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
you are right. I hope my shocks are fine, the car had only done 26k miles.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
I have also started looking into 16inch wheels and summer tyres, just to see roughly the price. I think it will be pretty equal to go for set of wheels and tyres or change 4-off shocks.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
HI @nta16, I have not done anything yet, I am still to talk to local garage mechanic but did not have time to pop in. I am also still deciding if I should go with it, I have watched a few videos saying that B6 gives much firmer ride, which is good for Golf GTI but I don't know how I will like it. I understand it can be firmer but more comfortable if you go faster. Basically, I do not know yet what to do. As a small project I want to do it, especially it looks like I am keeping the car for another 2-2.5 years, as used prices for Karoq are very very low so I can't trade it in without much financial loss. I am still looking at Superb 2.0 petrol though, don't know why but I like that car a lot! I will definitely update you all if I decide to go with the change.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
I don't think I mentioned before, my Karoq is Edition version and comes on 18" wheels. Smaller wheels will defo help but it is the way suspension works that annoys me sometimes (I don't even want to mention DSG), I think it was similar on my 2011 Passat, in most conditions it works fine, fine and then there is a thump through or the feeling like a wheel just drops into pothole, hard to explain. My wifes BMW M sport which has firmer suspension doesn't have that feeling over potholes and being M Sport with current road conditions (why we pay so much roadtax?) I would expect my Crossover (Karoq) perform better than a BMW!

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
You could be right saying all 4 should be changed, however, a lot of older cars (like 20 years old), if shock need to be changed then the pair usually will be swapped leaving other 2 older and not performing as new. I agree, ideally, all 4 should be changed and I would if by swapping front ones I notice a massive difference in riding, then I would do rear ones. PCP if it comes to it or insurer will ask the question why I don't use an OEM part, however, the reason swapping them is that I hit the pothole and one is leaking so two need to be replaced and why B6 (for example), well, this is what garage has right now in stock and I need my can asap. As @Carlston (thanks for your massive input) above said, it is quite hard to check every car and all the parts are OEM, unless of course if there was an accident, then a proper check will be done, and again, the car I bought was used, who knows when these were changed. Basically a lot of reasons can be to justify it. Thanks for checking that, I didn't get that far as to check suitability of B6 and Karoq, I only checked Autodoc for an estimate price of new shocks and B6 was on the list, so I assume there is availability there, will check if I decide to go this route. I was thinking in terms of Karoq, does Skoda fit differently set up shocks to every model (small/large petrol, diesel, large/small alloys etc)? Or is it just a standard part for all the Karoq models? I will pop in to local garage, I know the owner, and will run it by him just to get his thoughts on this matter. I can't reply just now to everyone's input (work), but thank you all, the thread turned out to be much more interesting then I expected it to be, with so many other things to consider and to think about. I might get a smaller used wheels, refurb them and get new tyres, may be. I hope someone who fitted B6 to any Skoda model can share their experience. Also, I am not sure how to move this Topic to a Skoda Karoq section. Have a good day people. Vlad

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
Hi Dan, thanks for offer, I will see what is happening with this. Every time I see AdrianFlux on forums, I am thinking that I should get in touch prior my insurance renewal and when time comes to renew I forget.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
@Carlston thanks, it is useful information too and you put me back on thinking of changing the front shocks. Perhaps I do need to check insurance and finance for this change. I was hoping for more input from people who did change the OEM shocks to B6, are they still happy with the change? Is it worth it? Also, can I only change the front pair and keep rear ones OEM? Thanks

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
I have just read the carexpert review on mods, looks like it is a pretty dodgy thing to do any mods like that and not worth it. Oh well, it was worth to ask knowledgably people in here. @nta16 thanks for your input.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
Hi, thanks for a reply and heads up, I will check your first link. I considered smaller size alloys as a winter set but then decided to buy a good comfortable tyres and got myself Pirrelli all season which are much better then original Bridgestone. I am thinking why would I need to contact finance company? For example, if I hit a pothole and in a need to change a shock absorber, am I not allowed to fit what is available I.e an upgraded part? Fair enough it might be considered as a modification for insurance purposes but it is not like I am lowering the car, new shock will be doing the same job as the old one, well, I am speculating here as I don't have enough information/knowledge. Do all the owners who upgraded their shock absorbers needed to report this change to insurance? I will do more reading anyway but a straight advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

New Shock absorbers, is it worth it?
HI all, I have been reading on this forum about how much riding improvement you get by installing a Bilstein B6 shock absorbers. I own Skoda Karoq with 26k miles on it and I am not a great fun of front suspension over small potholes and especially speed bumps, seems a bit crashy. My question is, can I upgrade to Bilstein just front shock absorbers and leave the rear ones OEM (at least for now)? Will it improve the riding quality as much as it does with the Superb? Also, the car is on PCP for another 2.5 years, if I do change front shocks with not OEM items will it have an effect at the end of the term financially? Thanks to anyone for any input.

Hello from Romania!
Happy New Year! La Anul si la Multi Ani, if I am not mistaken! Can't comment on Superb much, friend of mine had a 2.0tdi manual, great car, spacious and very economical, it was reliable as well! Now he moved to Kodiaq and loves it too! I was going to trade in my Karoq for Superb but prices for Karoq are dropped a lot, like 25-30% so financially it doesn't make sense! 😞

Dampness in the Passenger Footwell
I agree with you, I never believed it was a source of the leak. I always knew it was something to do with air conditioning and this was the reason I haven't used it especially when it was wet outside. I have an appointment in October, hopefully they will find the issue. I will have a chat with them, will remind them how it started. Skoda is a decent car but all these niggles just leave a sour taste of ownership!

Dampness in the Passenger Footwell
Hi, thanks for a reply, I do hope this is something simple. I phoned one of the local garages near my work and they want £100 for re-gas and £10 for each 100gr of gas, so roughly £150 and they can't say what the problem is, only if it is a large leak then they will be able to tell, if it doesn't work after re-gas then they will need more time to investigate. To me, it is £150 wasted! Unless it is a normal practise in UK. The car is still under 2 year additional warranty (has been during purchsing) I hope the warranty covers it. I will ask for t&c tomorrow from my dealer.
