Wheel bearing?
this sounds like it could be suspension top mounts. if you're stationary and go from lock to lock, does it make the noise?

Enabling both rear fog lamps - ERROR!?
I thought the same, but as others have said, only need the offside to work in the UK for the MOT to be passed. (my car had it's first MOT under my ownership on Monday, and passed with just the one) I guess with the mass production it's easier to install both bulbs then just code the required one for each region.

Fuel consumption/gauge
I've come from a 2.0 Diesel to a 2.0 Petrol so like the OP still try to adjust to the fuel consumption rate. I've also noted that the 2nd half of the tank goes a lot quicker than the first. Same on my last VAG car, putting it down as a "feature"

Maxton rear valance
Wasn't a Maxton but Jay replaced the rear splitter on his VRS, thread below. page 2. Talks about how easy/difficult it was to do.

Hatchback boot not opening.
Sounds like a failing mechanism to me. I had a similar issue with a door mechanism. Quick google, you can pick up a 2nd hand mech for around £40. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/374290884102?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda|Model%3AOctavia&hash=item572579a606:g:CPUAAOSwiW9jPJFp

Hatchback boot not opening.
could be that the mechanism is failing. when you go to open the boot, do you hear the mechanism working?

Cold start metal clacking ( like loose heat shield)
Have you got a video or audio recording of the sound? is it only on the first start up of the day that is does it? - i ask because mine does something similar, but it's only the first start up of the day it does it.

Remapping on a stock clutch
Yeah it's not uncommon. I've read that BMW are notorious for claiming one figure, but it's actually wildly different, almost always more, so can't complain at that!

Remapping on a stock clutch
Those are really good gains. Nice to see as i'm looking to stage 1 in the future, but will probably do the supporting parts first, exhaust, intake, turbo elbow etc. nearly 100bhp on stage 1 is dead impressive. when i had my last car mapped i the 40bhp i got was a big change from stock, so can only imagine how alive the car must feel now!

Remapping on a stock clutch
Remapping is one of those things where if you do it, expect to shorten the life of some of the components. I had a MK5 Golf GTI (manual, standard clutch) which was Revo Stage 1 from about 30k. It got to 110k before the clutch started to go. I know that the 8V Audi S3 which the MK3 VRS shares a lot of components with has a known clutch problem where they start going at really low miles, some as low as 30k. I can't remember if that was just the early 8Vs though. In my experience, if the car has been well looked after and not abused, there is no reason why a standard clutch can't take stage 1. I'm just getting the pennies together so i can map my VRS. I had a Avon map on my A3 which was really nice and not too aggressive. I found that Revo was really aggressive, fun though!

Suspension noise 2018 Octavia
I read that top mounts are quite common to cause this sort of thing. Mine creaks at low speeds, most noticeable when going lock to lock. i plan on placing the suspension at some point to see if it fixes the issue.

Dreaded silica bag
had this happen on my 2013 A3. I replaced the matrix myself. got a second hand one off ebay for £30. took a day to do. Rather that than the £700+ i've seen some people being quoted. i didn't see that the bag had burst, just that i had zero heating and that on long journeys the the coolant was becoming over pressurised and venting. (would get in the car the next morning to a low coolant alert on the dash) It wasn't a dash out job, i'm assuming that would be the same on Skoda.

Dashboard Dials Dark
Thanks for the response. Got heated Seats and they work fine. There are no electrical niggles i've come across (yet) I guess what my question really is, is should the dial back light be on permanently, or only come on when the lights are turned on? I leave the light on auto and when they eventually come on, dial back light comes on fine.

Dashboard Dials Dark
Hiya guys, With the nights drawing in now, I've noticed during that period where it's not quite night but night quite day where lights aren't needed, the dials on the dash aren't very visible. Does anyone else find this? i've been checked that the dial back lights are turned up to max, which they are. But it looks like the dial back light is only on when the cars lights are on. (on my A3 the dial back light was always on) Is there a way to turn the dial back light on constantly does anyone know. cheers,

New to Skoda not to VAG
Hiya Guys, New to the Skoda forums. switched sides from Audi replacing my A3 TDI with an Octavia MKlll VRS230 Estate in the last few months. Based in East Hampshire. Already used the forums for some VCDS mods, so its already proved really helpful. I'm a have a go mechanic and did a few bits to my A3. So happy to share any advice or knowledge i've gathered. Look forward to being part of the forum. Cheers,
