  1. How long are your journeys? On a five mile journey with the engine warming up 30 ish sounds about right. 15 miles should get you up into the mid 40's and 60 mile plus on motorways up into the 60's, at least that is what my 1.5 TSI does and there should not be much difference. Of course it depends upon amount of hills, temperature, and driving style etc.
  2. It worked today in both dry weather and heavy rain so i'll forget about it .... hopefully for a long time!
  3. Well I gave the car a wash and quick clean this afternoon and had another poke around the sensor with my finger, this time from the front of the grill. Found a few more wisps of spiders web (we seem to have had an epidemic of the things this autumn) from around the sensor, For luck I washed the front of the sensor properly and gave it a quick wax polish 😀. Time will tell, hopefully I'm off to the channel coast tomorrow which is a good hours drive each way, If it stays working I'll forget all about it, if not then I'll report it as a fault when the car goes in for its first service in a couple of weeks or so.
  4. John, Steve when you both say clean the sensor I assume that you mean the front surface on the grill, rather than the separate box type thing that I could just feel behind it. I understand you when you say that water mist, crud etc can interfere with the thing and I did 'clean' the front surface and it made no apparent difference. It could be however that the my wipe over with a wet cloth was not good enough, At the moment its raining cats and dogs, but when it stops I'll give it another clean, properly this time. However it worked yesterday so perhaps its good. Thanks
  5. No it didn't. In fact I've never triggered the ABS (yet).
  6. Well I can't be certain and something else may be going of course. Perhaps I did dislodge something with my finger tips, or moved the sensor back into position (if it had shifted) but I could barely touch the thing. What I did not mention was that just before the yellow triangle came on, a car approached from a side turning on the left. It was quite fast but I could see that it was slowing down so I wasn't worried, within a second the Front Assist flagged up a 'your going to die graphic' and then became unavailable (thankfully). I have associated that incident with the low pressure in the left front tyre. Dunno really just have to wait and see.
  7. This may be useful to somebody. This warning message started appearing recently followed by the orange warning triangle and ‘front assist not available’ message. As my SE spec car does not have adaptive cruise control the cruise control still worked, so this thing was an irritating nuisance rather than a serious fault. The handbook merely says to wash the front of the sensor (the black rectangle thing in the middle of the front grille) and check for dirt etc. Well, I did that, and not unexpectedly it made no difference. Lifting the bonnet, I could just about get my fingers down to touch the edge of the sensor, and feel for anything stuck there, nothing apart from a tiny, tiny part of a spider’s web, not sufficient I feel to upset a millimetric radar. Then I noticed the front left Tyre looked slightly flat. Checking pressures showed that it was just under 0.4 bar (6 psi) low, and the others were slightly low by 1-2 psi. After inflating the tyres to the correct value (and resetting the TPS), I am happy to say the sensor is now working again and after driving the car for a couple of days and 60 miles has given no further annoying problems Hopefully it will stay that way! I forgot to say that the TPS did not report a Tyre pressure loss.
  8. Your oil level looks OK but check the level when the engine is really cold, say after an overnight stand. If it still is on the dipstick then don't worry. The 509 oil you have bought should be fine, but do not put it in unless its really required and whatever you do, do not overfill.
  9. Hello from a fellow Scala owner John
  10. Wheel size, tyres and road surface are likely sources of vibration at speed as well. Does it occur on all road surfaces, a limited speed range or what. If the engine was the culprit it would be apparent at a particular rev. range rather than just at a certain speed.
  11. Wales 1975. What gear box was that car? I have a 1.5 manual and its very smooth, the stop/start does what it says with no vibration or rattles. After the hot summer the seats creak a little when negotiating wobbly lanes and B roads but nothing else really. A 15 mile drive along A roads gives me 50+mpg, 100 mile on motor ways 60+ mpg. The 2 cylinder 'ECO' mode does produce a barely discernible vibration, but as it (hopefully) saves me money I don't care.

    absolutely agree

  14. I used to drive Vauxhalls, the last one was a Peugeot Crossland, awful thing! Haven't had a Astra for some time though, I would think the Scala is equivalent in size to the Astra but probably a wee bit larger inside. I do know that the Scala gives a much better driving experience than the Crossland, not least in that the all round visibility is much better. I have the SE model with a 1.5 engine but you pays yer money and makes yer cnoice. Best plan is to test drive one really.

Well quite honestly I love the thing, and that is a comment I haven't made about a car in a very long time! The version I have is the 2022 SE model, metallic paint, fabric seats, manual air con, no sat nav. - I use the iPhone which works well. Oh I invested in rubber mats for the thing - well worth while if you take rubbish to the local tip or use the car for visiting muddy places! There are only two niggles that I have. 1)the front passenger seat does not full recline and the headrest gets in the way any any long stuff you you try and load. However the headrest can be removed by pressing the rear of the seat at the right spot -see Google. 2) the 1.5 engine is so smooth with lots of torque at low rev's that it is easy to find oneself drifting along quite happily at 10mph in 6th gear, the consequence is that when asked to accelerate the engine stalls without any warning. Proper attention given to the rev. counter by the lazy driver would prevent this of course! The DSG would not allow this to happen and would, I imagine, produce a very, very good flexible power delivery. As I said I opted for 16 inch wheels and the ride is good. My daughter and her husband have a SEAT Leon estate with the same engine/box as mine. It has 17 inch wheels and a stiffer suspension and I find the ride quite choppy. The car is heavier and bigger of course and they do fill it with a LOT of stuff. My fuel consumption goes from 35mpg on the very local supermarket run, 50 something on a 10-20 mile trip along country A roads and 60+ on a decent motorway run. Hope that helps John P.S. Check out the spare wheel options - mine came with a 'full sized spare wheel' rated for legal speeds. It's actually a 15 inch rim with a higher profile tyre. Other options are a can of squirty stuff or a speed limited space saver. P.P.S If you intend to tow anything confirm that it will be legally rated for it - check the posts on here that deal with that.

I test drove a monte carlo and was impressed with the engine (1.5TSI) and the manual box it had. I didn't really want the other extras above the SE model so settled for the SE (with that super engine). I also found the ride on 17 inch wheels a little bumpy on the lousy roads here so went for 16 inch. Don't know anything about the travel assist recall, but wouldn't be worried about it. My impression is that some of the software for the optional stuff and non essential comfort features can be a little flaky, but reading the posts here it seems to get fixed in the end. John
  17. Googleology has revealed that there isn't one CAN bus but several, roughly divided into drive train, transmission etc then comfort, convenience and others. So is is quite possible for one sub bus to have a problem but the others will continue to operate as normal. This link may be useful - or not! 18. Could well be EMC from the b----ed plugs and coil. Does the radio sound any different/better?
  19. I haven't done it but I'm sure I have seen Skoda ones for sale. They fit onto the roof via standard screw fixing's in the top of the door frame (hidden when the door is closed).
  20. I don’t know. Mine is a SE version without sat nav so the screen layout is different. I have to connect via Smartlink each time. It does give you the option of either apple or android, at least the first time round.
  21. It looks very good. Enjoy!
  22. I asked the service manager of the dealers where I bought the car if the 15in spare was correct and safe to use. Here is the reply.... this is indeed correct, as the wheel is seen as a temporary tyre, you will have 1 inch less on the rim and a higher profile tyre on to compensate for this, that is standard in all our vehicles and is seen as a full size spare. It's better than a tin of squirty stuff anyhow! I have not taken the thing out so I don't know if it is speed limited .
  23. Well the spare wheel I have is Skoda’s “Standard Spare Wheel” corresponding to “the dimensions of the wheels mounted on the vehicle,” their wording from the handbook. It is not the skinny “emergency wheel” and does not carry an obvious speed of distance limitation. However it is a 15 inch wheel carrying a 195/65 R15 91H Kinenergy Eco tyre produced by Kontrol of Hungary, compared to the 16 inch 205/55R16 91V Goodyear fitted as standard. So the spare probably corresponds to the standard size fitted to a baseline line model. It has a marginally lower load and speed rating than the main tyres but nothing worth worrying about. I assume that used as a spare and driven accordingly it is safe. I’ll speak to the dealer to find out more.
  24. Yes I believe so, it certainly looked it when I checked it was there after delivery. Its nearly dark now (and chuffing windy) but I'll check in the morning. I did specifically ask the dealer (Marshalls of Medway) about it when I ordered the car and they said it would be.
  25. Agree with that. Very pleased with mine (it came with a full sized spare wheel).
