  1. Might be the fan or whatever blows the air into the cabin slowly dying or slowing down, Less air volume then colder/hotter air required to maintain the cabin temperature - I think

  3. I have seen two this week 😁 One in Maidstone (71 plate I think) and one today in Sittingbourne (69 plate). First ones I've seen this year. Chatted to the driver of the one today for a few minutes and he was very happy with it (1 litre DSG). Turns out it was one of the first to be sold in the UK, currently with 10k miles on it with no problems. Probably won't see another one until next year!
  4. By chance I drove past the freshly arrived imported cars at Sheerness docks awaiting transport to the UK dealers a few days ago. The was a fair number of Skoda's there, mainly large SUV as far as I could see.
  5. Lovely looking car! Regarding the faults my money is on the battery. If you have the means measure the battery volts in the morning with the car cold, or put it on float charge tonight if you have a suitable charger, whatever its back to the supplier pronto. It will be some stupid reason that should not have happened. It'll get sorted!
  6. I got mine from either Tesco or Curry’s- I forget which. It’s short about 300mm . The iPhone sits very comfortably in the cubby hole where the usb sockets are. BTW phone also provides navigation via Google maps. just realised my cable is lighting to usb-c, yours will be different at the phone end!

  8. Well I haven't noticed that on my Scala but it seems to deposit water drips randomly after rain. Looking at your picture my guess would be that water is collected on the grill area that slowly works its way down between the number plate and the body work to emerge later. I wouldn't worry about it, probably the same thing would happen if you used a hose pipe on the car! Yes got the water ingress between the outer door panel and the body work as well but it seems to drain away somehow. Again its a 'feature' and the you have the body corrosion warranty anyhow but I doubt if its worth stressing about. Finally like you I love the car (apart from the non reclining front passenger seat 🤬) Enjoy it!

  10. The front seats do incline forwards a little, but not so much as to be any real use. Tomorrow when its light and not chucking it down I'll check if you like
  11. Agree absolutely. The only vibration I have felt from the ACT was when I was coasting at 20mph in third and the ACT engaged, absolutely fine until I put my foot down to accelerate uphill and it chugged for a few seconds until the ACT disengaged.
  12. I think its endemic in the Scala. Mine do not incline forwards anywhere near the dash and the manual does indeed show a incline lever for the passenger seat. The big rotary knob thing just has the normal 'comfort' range of adjustment. Its a blxxdy irritating nuisance!

  17. Apparently the 1.5 manual is no longer offered in the UK now. Pity because they are a very good car to drive.
  18. I have recently put together this data for EFB batteries, from Varta and Yuasa sources, for reference in the future. EFB - Enhanced Flood Battery (Simple Stop/Start) not for cars that use energy recovery. Charging voltages: EFB - Cycle (i.e on car) 14.4 Volt. Float (i.e on float charger) 13.4. Battery Condition: EFB Battery Volts %Charge Action 12.8 100 OK 12.4 75 OK 12.1 50 Charge 11.9 25 Urgent Charge If less than 11.9 volts it’s knackered! These are voltages measured with the car cold and after standing overnight and the engine is not running. With a battery in good condition, say 75% charged on engine start up and idling, you would expect to measure 14.4 or thereabouts on the battery terminals. After a decent run, or after a top up charge, then expect a voltage somewhere about 12.6V. On that basis I would expect to charge the battery overnight when it gets down to 12.2 ish. My new Scala gives me: Engine off V=12.54 v. Engine running on idle V=13.2. Battery has a high charge and the car is float charging it. Of course you need a test meter to do the voltage measurements, I believe that you can buy simple meters (i.e. have real digits rather than just ā€˜good’ ā€˜ok’ ā€˜low’ indicator lights) that plug into the cigar lighter socket. If in doubt and you haven’t run the car for a hour or so then I would charge the battery once every two weeks in a typical English winter and once every month in summer. Hope that helps, if only a little.
  19. A final summary of the Scala to close this thread off: After nearly two months I have driven 1000 miles in it with no problems and a lot of pleasure. I’ve even found out how to turn the wretched Lane Assist off from the steering wheel. To be honest I find it useful when using a multilane road but it is annoying on our A and B roads, however easily turned off and on when required. I checked the engine oil level, fluid levels and tyre pressures when new (cold and hot) and rechecked them after the 1000 miles and didn’t spot any differences, so that’s good. Because the car stood for a week or more in the very cold weather I did float charge the battery once or twice but it wasn’t really necessary and the Start/Stop has always worked. E10 petrol consumption has ranged from 28mpg for the 2 mile trip to the local supermarket, 56mpg for a 40 mile trip on single lane A roads and a spectacular 62mpg for a 150 mile return trip along motorways. During this last trip I drove mainly at 70 mph when I could, in quite busy traffic, and didn’t use the cruise control, just old fashioned right foot driving. Nothing bad to report, it’s annoying that the front passenger seat does not fold down and the front headrest’s do not (officially) come out. Roof bars will solve the space issue and a thump to the back of the seat, in the right place, the headrest annoyance, although I haven’t tried it. Oh and I’ve got a stone chip on the windscreen, which will be repaired next week! Finally I had a chap walking past my house stop and look at the Scala, he asked me what car it was. ā€œIt’s a Skoda initā€ ā€œI know that from the badge, it’s not an Octavia is it?ā€ ā€œNope, a smaller version, the Scalaā€ ā€œIt’s lovely!ā€ In my 50 odd years of driving no one has ever said that my car was lovely before!

On the subject of battery charging I extracted this from the web: 'General charging recommendations for EFB leisure batteries are 14.4V ± 0.2V on bulk/fast charge, and 13.6V ± 0.2V on float/standby charge, both quoted at 25°C. Current input should be limited to label capacity for general recharging.' source: motorhomefun.co.uk forum. (Briskoda won't let me put the full web address on here). So it suggests that the car charger should be putting some 14 volts on the battery (which it is) and if you are float charging it at home, from a standard lead acid battery charger, it should be producing 13.6V at the battery. If float charging a suspect battery I would leave the float charger on for a couple of days. For example I decided to float charge my nearly new Scala battery because the car had been sitting outside at something like -5C for a week without being used. I had no doubt that the car would start but it was a new toy! It took about 12 hours for the charging current to fall to 0.1Amp (even though the battery charger showed full charge within one hour) and another 12 hours to get to 0.05 Amp at which point I stopped as the battery voltage was up to 13.6 with the charger off. It might be worthwhile doing a similar exercise on your battery to see if it clears some of the computer rubbish.

  22. There comes a time to step back from the specs and pictures. Go for the test drive, drive it intuitively using your Focus as a reference to score the thing against. Then look at the options which may or may not add to the utility /enjoyment of driving the car. For example, a heated windscreen is a godsend if you have you have to get up at sillyoclock to drive to work every day, if you don't have to do that is it worth the money? How far forward does the front passenger seat fold down, if you regularly want to get long planks of wood in its rather important, if not then its irrelevant (the answer is it does not fold a lot 🤬).
  23. There is a review somewhere on the mighty web from some body like the Caravan club about towing with the Scala. Its worth finding and considering, basically they managed a caravan that was pretty much on the limit with a 1.1 litre engine.
