  1. That is the whole thing with forums. Like any good conversation the thread wanders off onto other subjects. Nobody is worse for it than me.
  2. I actually typed that I had done that after sepulchrave's comment at the top but somehow, probably my stupidity, it didn't post. I know the alarm works. I won't be be doing anything to try and get the LED working. My days of working on cars are long past.
  3. I do not want to damage the "get you home tyre" by running at a ridiculously low pressure. Keeping the rim off the road will prevent damage to the rim but as I know from experience, five miles can destroy a tyre if it is only firm enough to keep the tyre off the road.
  4. Yes, I understood that. You even get stick on flashing LEDs for your dashboard for about £4 on Amazon.
  5. Well mine doesn't flash at all. I was even out in the dark this evening and I checked again in case it was very faint, but nothing.
  6. Today I spotted an LED on the driver's door inner cap above the door handle. I take it this flashes to let would be thieves know the car is alarmed. Mine does not flash I locked the car with the remote, went back to it a couple of minutes later and watched the LED for another minute or so, and it never flashed. is this one of the things the dealer can code on or off or is it just a fault. I had a read through the manual but it is not mentioned. The car has a few minor electrical problems. The parking sensors don't work, the button to open the boot from the driving seat doesn't work and the driver's heated seat doesn't heat the base (the back heats okay). Still, what do you expect from a thirteen year old car. Sorry I have nothing but questions.
  7. It was a distressed purchase. I needed a car quick. The Fabia was nearby, at a price I could almost afford, a full MOT and looked okay. I have never ever owned a VAG vehicle but neither had I owned a Honda (or any Japanese car) before I bought the Jazz. A car to me is purely a means of getting about. Don't really worry what it looks like, colour or toys. As long as it starts, stops, keeps me dry and does more than 20 mpg it will do for me.
  8. I am of a similar thought and much prefer narrower steel wheels. My dearly departed Jazz had 175/65 R14 Yokohama 4S tyres on steel rims. Easy to source and cheapish to buy. I had a SAAB 99 (two in fact) shod with 155 HR 15s and it would climb any hill in the snow. The only time I ever got stuck was snow up to the level of the front bumper. I had a Volvo S40 with alloys and they leaked like nothing on earth. I ended up forking out to have them restored and after that I never needed to put any more air in them. Through choice give me bog standard steel wheels every time. I fancied getting four season tyres for the Fabia but they are like hens teeth. And those that are available are twice the price of similar tyres for the Jazz
  9. The road wheels are shod with 205/45 R16 so there is less than a 1% difference in rolling circumference between them and the spare.
  10. It is a Dunlop SP Sport 195/55 R1. Just a standard asymmetric tyre on a steel rim. The only difference with the rim is it has the yellow 50 mph/80kph stickers on it. I was trying to discern what the date on it was but I had already refitted it in the wheel well and could see no markings so perhaps the date is only moulded on the outside of the tyre. I connected up my extension braided hose so I will no longer have to lift it out to check and adjust the pressure (set it to 230kPa/33.5psi). The maximum pressure it can take is 51 psi so if I had inflated it to 61 psi as the Haynes manual recommended I might not be here now. The spare wheel well was bone dry but I drilled a couple of small holes through the lowest plastic bung just in case. I use an electric pump but it has its own battery. I have checked the gauge against my RACE X RX0014 Tyre Pressure Gauge and the are both within 0.5psi of each other.
  11. Thanks. I see that now. At the time I was looking at that image I did not have the list of option codes so 1G1 meant nothing to me. It does now. it is a Dunlop tyre that is on the rim. I must assume it is the original. next time I have it out I will check the date code. As an aside, the spare tyre on my Jazz was unused (still had the pips on the moulding) and I contacted Bridgestone to see if I should change it. This is the reply I received. “Thanks for your mail, which has been passed to me for reply. For this space saver tyre, if the tyre has been stored in good condition and is displaying no signs of ageing then it should still be suitable for emergency use. However I would stress that space saver tyres are a temporary mobility solution and if used, should be changed for a full sized tyre as soon as possible, driving for a maximum of 50 miles at 50mph. As with any natural product, rubber does age and will become more susceptible to cracking as it does. The rate of ageing depends on how the tyre is stored and what it is exposed to. We cannot offer an official cut-off point at which a tyre should not be put into service but based on my own knowledge I would recommend changing a tyre of this type once it is 10 years from date of manufacture. I hope this helps, and if you need any more info, let me know. Best regards Pete Peter Moulding Lead Field Engineer Bridgestone UK Ltd”
  12. The VIN decoder says 1G1 Space-saving spare wheel. Perhaps the car came out of the factory with a Space saver and a later owner has replaced it. It certainly didn't look like any Space saver I have ever seen. I'll leave it at 40 psi as I carry an electric pump with me. I have also purchased an extension braided pipe that will allow me to check and adjust the spare tyre pressure without having to lift the wheel and tyre out. It just threads through the wheel.
  13. Thanks. That is what I thought. I stuck 40 psi in it when I had it out the other week but when I got the VIN decoded it said Space saver and with it having the yellow stickers on it I thought I had better make sure. And what's wrong with Fifers? I am a Fifer, born and bred. 🙂
  14. According to Skoda my spare wheel is a Space saver despite being 195/55 R15 on a steel wheel. The wheels on the car are 205/45 R16 on alloys. There is nothing on the pressure chart on the filler cap about spare tyre pressure but according to the Haynes manual the pressure for a Space saver spare should be 4.2 bar, 61 psi. Is this figure correct?
  15. Funnily enough, I used to deliver for Arnold Clark Autoparts, for a brief spell between real jobs. It was my experience with them that got me the part time gig with TMS after I retired.
  16. Thank you. The lack of punctuation in your original post did not make that clear.
  17. Did you change the thermostat?
  18. I bought my car in December and the fan failed after a week. Check if you are getting power to the 30A fuse with the ignition on (you can get to the top of the fuse with a multimeter. I found a handy earth on the door strap) and if so the relay is okay. The car sales fitted a new blower for me and said it was a pig of a job. Once fitted the flashing Climatronic display stopped flashing and now the system works great. May well be worth getting your garage to replace it for you.
  19. Thanks for the TPS link. Don't know if John uses them. He gets most of his stuff from Dingbro. I used to deliver for TMS but I haven't used them since they were bought over.
  20. I have used autodoc for a couple of parts for the Honda. I was hoping for a supplier of OEM parts but a bit cheaper than my local Main Dealer.
  21. When I had my Honda the forum members always recommended Cox Honda for service parts such as oil, filters, sump plug washers, etc. Where are the best online suppliers for Skoda parts? I no longer do my own maintenance (too old and stiff) but my son-in-law is a mechanic and for a number of years now has owned SEAT cars, so hopefully he will help me out.
  22. One thing I saw in the manual was the rear power socket in the boot and I thought, "That will come in handy for my rear dashcam.", but then I couldn't find it. The VIN decoded data says: 7B0 without an electrical socket. It also tells me that my spare wheel is a space saver. Doesn't save a lot of space.
  23. Thanks. I lashed out and spent the £2.78 and got the pdf, pdq.
  24. Thanks. I think the ELE stands for Elegance. I am trying to do as much research on it as I can.
