  1. Have you had the sensors checked and verified? The parking aid control unit is located behind the right-hand rear trim panel in the luggage compartment. Unless you have a third party unit fitted and not a Skoda OEM unit, then it could be anywhere.
  2. Thanks to everyone for their input. I never thought of that answer. I keep promising myself I'll check the pollen filter but for my stiff old joints, it is rather difficult foe me to access. The next time I am in at the garage I'll ask them to do it.
  3. It was particularly warm today so I dialed my Climatronic control down to its lowest setting (Lo) and it was working great. However, when I started to reverse into my drive the fan speed increased. I had to make a forward cut and it dropped a bit then went back up to high as I completed the manoeuvre. Was this a coincidence or is there some function that I don't know about? I know that if I have the wipers on and I select reverse the rear wiper comes on but I don't really see any advantage in increasing the amount of cooling (unless it is to stop you sweating if you are making a mess of the reversing).
  4. I have a similar problem. I believe it to be one or more faulty or open circuit sensors.
  5. If you have a Multimeter with an Amps range you could try and measure the drain current. With the bonnet open, the battery negative disconnected and the car all locked up, connect the Multimeter on the Amps range between the battery earth post and the disconnected lead (negative to battery post). This should give you a measure of the drain current. With that information, you would be better placed to find the cause of the drain. I am assuming that the AA man confirmed that the charging circuit is working as it should.
  6. I have projector headlights on my car and the light output is terrible. Thankfully, I seldom have to drive in the countryside after dark. Most of my driving after dark is in the city.
  7. My brake warning is red with an ! in the centre. The orange one is ABS but says ABS in the centre.
  8. Have you had a quotation from an exhaust firm like Kwikfit or Farmers?
  9. I have driven hard and fast for most of my motoring life. I was an out-and-out lunatic for most of my early driving career. I have driven single-seaters and rally cars, trucks and buses. It is only since retiring that I toned down my driving, as a nod to my age and to reduce wear and tear on my cars.
  10. I too, over 60 years of car ownership, have never changed the brake or clutch fluid on any car I have owned. The longest I have owned a vehicle is 170,000 miles and 13 years. I have never had brake issues other than the usual pad wear.
  11. Hatchback doors are different.
  12. Maybe not in France but it is built into UK consumer law. It’s part of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 that means your credit card provider is jointly and severally responsible for any breach of contract or misrepresentation by a retailer or trader. It allows you to make a claim against your credit card company to get your money back if a retailer or trader lets you down and refuses to honour the contract properly - including if it goes bust.
  13. You could contact your credit card company and instigate a Section 75 action against the garage. The credit card company is actually the customer in this transaction. I am currently following the same line after defective roof repairs. It costs you nothing and the garage has to prove that they did everything correctly TO THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY.
  14. You cannot squeeze a 35 mm cable through an existing cable run, Cars that have this set up will have a dedicated hole and grommet for a cable of that size.
  15. I drilled a small hole through the plug nearest the front of the spare wheel well (furthest from you as you stand at the hatch). I have had no more problems with water gathering or condensation. I do have a couple of large bags of silica gel I keep in the car but I have had them in every car for several years now. After all, you are regularly getting in with wet shoes and clothing.
  16. The mechanic that did mine just lay on the floor and worked up under the dashboard.
  17. I had a SAAB 99 with dodgy valve stem seals and if you descended a hill on a trailing throttle and then accelerated at the bottom, there was a plume of smoke from the exhaust, clearly visible in the rearview mirror.
  18. The garage that did mine didn't touch the dashboard but worked from underneath.
  19. You just push and turn the two rings on the end of the little coil springs.
  20. I take it the engage switch on the top of the stalk works?
  21. My 2009 Elegance does not have electrically folding mirrors. You can manually force them to fold back as is they had been struck by another vehicle, but that is it I am afraid.
  22. I have a 2009 hatch and the tailgate shows open on the display.
  23. I delivered for a Motor Factor a few years back and we sold Chinese discs and pads and "Chinese" discs and pads. The "Chinese" discs were the same price for two as the others were a piece and a box of two weighed about the same as the box with the single disc. Sometimes garages would ask for a set of each and let the customer decide which ones they wanted to pay for but usually, they insisted on the good ones.
  24. Where about in Scotland are you? I was recommended a good VAG independent on the southern edge of Edinburgh. I haven't used them but the member who recommended them has.
