  1. Fitted Bosch discs and pads all round this summer along with new fluid. The difference was massive, although the brake fluid was 3.5 years new and contained a special blend of algae. Getting the ABS to kick in isn't a problem and they do stop the car very well, but seem to lack precision (there's a fair amount of pedal travel after the initial grab before much else happens). Not a complaint, rather an observation and something that can easily be adjusted to. Agree the factory discs are poor, one of my rears warped around 30k.
  2. Recently booked a service at the main dealer online and the price quoted through Skoda was roughly £980 for a timing belt change - I'd imagine it would be much cheaper at an independent garage.
  3. Hi all, Just to follow up from my previous post; the DVSA have provided the following response: "I have reviewed your report and additional correspondents and note that you became aware of the fuel leakage through a reduction in engine performance, a warning message illuminating and a smell of fuel. I also note that this resulted in no incidents involving damage, injury, fire or loss of control. DVSA has previously investigated matters of fuel rail bolts coming loose or snapping with the assistance of the manufacturer and has concluded in those cases that, although a leakage of fuel may occur, a lack of ignition sources in the immediate area means that there is an absence of immediate risk of a thermal event. Additionally, the resulting fuel leakage is readily detectable during routine maintenance and servicing, together with the potential for a reduction in engine performance which will illuminate warning messages in the event of low fuel pressure whilst driving as was the case with your report. Furthermore, the smell of fuel to the user will prompt the need for further investigation. To conclude, whilst I acknowledge a quality concern does exist, DVSA are currently unable to conclude that this concern meets the definition of a “safety defect” as stated by the Code. If owners believe they have received a product of poor quality, DVSA would advise they contact the manufacturer for further consideration (e.g., goodwill) or the Motoring Ombudsman." The reply certainly seems very copy-paste and certainly twists my words. I did not experience loss of power or warning lights prior to the failure, only afterwards. The car had only been serviced at the main dealer months beforehand - no faults found, another false statement. I can only assume they are not interested in thoroughly investigating or pushing the manufacturers for a recall of any kind.
  4. Very good points The remap is 95 ron capable but 9/10 fill ups have been super unleaded (typically 99) as a precaution. Having almost solely used Tescos offerings of petrol, will try another garage to rule out contaminated/subpar fuel. Looking at the above doc, Esso may be worth a try for it's detergent additive. This will take a few weeks as I'd imagine any difference wouldn't be immediately noticeable. Still curious to know if rough idling is a "characteristic" of the 1.2...
  5. Good to know regarding carbon build-up - I guess that can be ruled out for now. Coil packs are next on the list. Have seen some negative opinions on the "ELDOR" packs on other TSI engines (albeit the larger capacity/performance engines). It does seem odd that all 4 would go bad at the same time. Are there any specific parameters I could log over the next drive that would help diagnose this? e.g. Misfire count, rpm, throttle, etc Thanks wp
  6. The main reason for the remap was performance gains but I was hoping another byproduct would have been smoother idling. The map was applied in winter so the misfires weren't such a problem on the day.
  7. My 2016 1.2 tsi misfires almost constantly at idle (seems to be worse with hot weather) and most noticeable with a warm engine. This happens on all cylinders and my scan tool shows counts being added to the misfire count each time the engine shakes and feels like it misfires. Almost seems like it is surging/struggling and every 3/4/5 seconds it is thrown off by a misfire. On hot days the engine will sometimes bog down and refuse to accelerate for a couple of seconds then suddenly spring to life making entering busy roundabouts challenging (I am used to the turbo lag and needing to keep revs high to get a move on - driven the vehicle over 30k miles myself). Even in 2nd gear at 3500 rpm it will still stumble as described above. Once the power comes on it moves right up to red line. Work done (relevant or not): Replaced spark plugs - no change. Clean air filter fitted - no change. Injector cleaning additive - no change. Engine remapped - no change. Ran momentum 99 for months - no change / possibly worse than 95 ron. Fuel rail re-secured (issue present before and after). No codes or CEL but did have a one off code relating to a shudder on shutdown - cleared and never returned. Rather than firing more parts at it, I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same? How smooth does your engine idle? At what mileage (if at all) is carbon cleaning required on these engines? All help appreciated Cheers
  8. I don't want to worry you but it may be worth checking your fuel rail bolts are secure. I've had some intermittent minor rough running issues (even on super unleaded) for months and yesterday my fuel rail finally broke loose spraying petrol into the engine bay. The car was undeliverable and the only telltale sign a few drives beforehand was a faint smell of petrol when the car was parked after a journey. I heard about this fault and stupidly thought it would never happen to my car until it did. Of course it may be completely unrelated to your problem but is certainly worth checking if you have an affected engine. 2016 1.2 tsi CJZC engine code
  9. Certainly will be doing this once I receive a diagnostic report from the RAC. Agreed. It is a shame that profit is valued higher than life. Is the problem confined to the 1.2 and 1.4 tsi units or is the 1.0 tsi affected too? Also, does anyone know where we can source the replacement bolts and seals? Cheers
  10. Had this exact problem occur yesterday. Smelled fuel after driving the vehicle a good distance but the odour wasn’t strong enough to set alarm bells ringing (silly me!). Upon returning to the vehicle hours later it struggled to start, EPC light on and had a severe misfire to the point of having to hold the accelerator down to avoid stalling in neutral. RAC arrived and correctly confirmed my suspicions (having read this thread moons ago) that one bolt on the fuel rail has snapped and others were loose. Recommend purchasing new bolts and seals to keep in the car if your engine hasn’t yet succumbed to this fault. RAC (and I imagine its competitors too) do not carry these bolts and recovery is the only option. I cannot believe this isn’t classified as a dangerous fault - I was metres away from entering a national speed limit carriageway! 2016 (66 reg) Fabia CJZC 1.2 tsi 40k miles FMDSH
