  1. I see you have a Kia in your profile. My last car was a Kia Picanto where you had options on which order to play files. You could select to play in random, alphabetical or as in the original file structure. Simple. I've stopped using the USB function altogether now and am actively looking for a compatible portable CD player to plug in.
  2. I understand the current thinking on Streaming platforms but that is not really for me. Quite simply, I've been making my own music for a number of years as an amateur songwriter and have dozens of my own CD's that I like to play in the car. I have followed advise and put them all on USB memory stick but, unfortunately due to bad programming by Skoda, the tracks will not play in any order other than alphabetical. Drives me crazy as most albums are compiled in a certain playing order. Anyway .... ranted on about this too much already. Sorry for starting again!
  3. Got to say that I have the SE Comfort DSG version and love almost everything about it (also an older driver). The gearbox itself is a dream and the trim and comfort levels are great. Seats are super comfy. Most things are easy to use. This model also does not have sat-nav so I use Android Auto with Google maps even though I'm not much of a 'phone user generally. The only real thing that I dislike, and wound change if I could, is the music system as it really doesn't suit my needs. I've rattled on a bit about this before so won't bother again but would still go back to a CD player if it were available. I have done a couple of slightly in-depth reviews over the 8 months I've had this car, which can be found if you go back through my posts ... if you are interested. Upshot is .... a great car all round.
  4. Thanks Bob. Tried every available option to no avail. I have now almost given up using the USB system for listening to music. I been wondering if the other infotainment systems, on other trim models, have the same issue for when I decide I might trade for a new model in a couple of years. By then the technology will probably have changed again .... for the worse! If I can't get personally curated albums to play in the correct order it spoils the enjoyment. Still considering a portable CD player.
  5. Not sure this will help as in my case I installed a space-saver wheel. All I did was to adapt some polystyrene type packaging from another product to take the bottle and pump safely and squeezed it into the wheel dish. Probably would not work with a full size wheel.
  6. Generally I have never used my phone in the car other than for Maps. I plug it in and drop it into the space below the head unit, in front of the gear shift. I'm guessing it might have a better signal lying on the dash? Anyone have experience of some sort of holder for this, maybe a double-sided sucker just to stop it sliding about? Don't need to see the screen at all.
  7. So would that mean the position of the phone within the car may make a difference to the signal? I thought it would have defaulted to the car antenna.
  8. Does anyone know, when using G-Maps through Android Auto, if the GPS signal comes from phone or car head unit/aerial? Been on a regular route today which normally has no problem with signal but although going there was fine the return journey just lost the signal almost the whole route. Any ideas on reasons or how to fix would be appreciated. This is on 23 plate Fabia SE Comfort DSG with basic Swing media unit.
  9. Another month in and another round trip of 280-ish miles from Newcastle area to Edinburgh. A great (driving wise) trip once again returning trip computer figures of 58mpg one way and 60mpg back again. This is truly a superb small engine car, from my perspective. Clocked up 2300 miles, from new, on this journey and have never felt the wee engine to be under powered. Managed to get the computer mileage stabilised at 'from last fill' but not really sure how I did it. Have stopped using USB music now, and just sticking to radio 4, as I simply can NOT come to terms with my huge collections of albums all coming up in alphabetical order. If I could only get that one thing fixed I would be a happy chappy. Am now in the mindset of sourcing a plug-in portable CD player that is not too intrusive. For all the supposed 'advances' in technology in these fine cars this, to me, is the major retrograde step. All I ask is a built-in CD player! Anyway. Passed another milestone to emphasize how great this car is.
  10. Mine was a proper spare wheel to replace that awful can of gunk. Next under consideration is a portable CD player as that audio system does not suit my needs at all. Other than those it is a wonderful car.
  11. Had my Fabia SE Comfort 1.0TSI 110PS DSG now for 6 months this week. Really very pleased with it on all sorts of levels. The driving experience is wonderful and, don't know if it is down to it being badged as 'comfort', I truly found it to be extremely comfortable. Before retiring I was a professional driver, often driving multiple cars each day, and this is the first one where I have sat in the seat, adjusted the distance and the steering wheel height, and never had to change it since. The DSG gearbox is a dream. You can simply forget about it apart from the odd times you need a swift getaway then just click the gearshift to select 'S' mode. There are other wee tiny elements that I love like the inner door pull handles and the boot hanging pull which just make me happy! Small things of joy. I do have a few niggles. Things that I really DON'T like but they are minor and probably down to my own taste. Don't like the way I can set the computer fuel consumption to 'from last fill' but it always seems to revert back to 'from start', which only gives you consumption for each short trip. Absolutely HATE the infotainment system and the way it will only put USB albums in alphabetical order. Hate that so much that I am seriously sourcing a portable CD player to plug in. Anyway. All round great car.

  14. This is driving me crazy and can't get an answer from anywhere! With my Fabia Swing system and a USB stick plugged in I find that all my albums come up with the tracks playing in ALPHABETICAL ORDER instead of the designated order. On my previous car (Kia Picanto) there were options in the menu to select various ordering formats but can't find anything for this car or head unit. Have tried all sorts of systems with renaming files and changing MP3 tags and all to no avail. Most albums have been compiled to play in a specific order. Almost all of my stuff is my own music so cannot call on online databases, or whatever, but like I said, I have tried every system of numbering within the track titles and within the MP3 tags themselves. Please, has anyone any idea how to sort this? Thanks.
  15. Hey, Interesting old topic dredged up through the search. Last week I posted this to my Fabia board but so far have had no responses. Maybe someone here might know. Wondering if anyone can shed light on the system of file structure for using a USB flash drive to play albums. I'm finding that, on selecting an album from the file browser, the tracks seem to come up in alphabetical order instead of the actual play order that was saved to the disc. I have all files actually numbered at the beginning of each title, such as .... 01_TrackOne ... or 02_TrackTwo but can't find a way to select play order anywhere in the settings or menu. In my previous car (Kia Picanto) I had the same issue but there were settings that could be changed to revise the play order. The other associated issue I'm finding is that, for each track (or album) I have artwork saved in the MP3 tag but only SOME of these are showing on the screen. Does anyone know if there is a specified required file type/size that will display naturally? Again, nothing to find in the settings or online manual. This is all for the Swing version of head unit. Thanks.

  17. WOW !!! If this is modern driving I'm even more glad I got the supremely wonderful DSG auto box.
  18. This one was useful and seems to have solved the problem. It doesn't work exactly as stated but I did find that if I use the scroll wheel to get to that MPG display then press on the wheel, as in a click, it goes through the choices on offer with each click. The one it is left on stays selected (I hope). Thanks.
  19. As for the alarm question, I asked in case anyone has experienced of this happening as I don't want to disturb my neighbours. "Open a window. Lock the car enabling the alarm, reach your arm in the window and wave it about." Well, the online owners manual states: The alarm system will only operate correctly when all the windows are closed.
  20. "Does your computer settings not have 2 you can choose from. Do you really not have an Average there that can be left running and one that resets." If it does I can't find it .... which is why I asked.
  21. In reference to my MkIV SE Comfort DSG model. A silly one first. Was just wondering, as I don't really want to test it out on the neighbours, if my alarm went off what would it be? Is it the horn blown in a certain pattern or is it some other sort of audio device? Other query is regarding the trip computer settings. I like my Fuel Average counter to stick with Reset After Refuelling but each time I try to set it it reverts back to Reset From Start. Because of this I only get MPG for each short trip and not MPG from fill to fill. Any idea how I can set this value and get it to stick? Thanks in advance, you clever people.
  22. I got to say that my 15" wheels with 185/65R15 Continentals are first class. No noise at all on my usual trips around town and a recent longer weekend trip to Scotland and back really couldn't have been better. No intrusive road noise at all other than a few areas where the roads themselves are total rubbish.
  23. Just thought I would share my opinions, after the first month, of my Fabia MkIV SE Comfort 1.0 TSI 110PS DSG. The main reason for a share is having just returned from its first real test, a weekend trip to Scotland and back visiting family. My first few weeks have been just tootling around town with only a couple of slightly longer journeys but never enough to properly get things tested out. It has been more like a period of feeling my way around the car and getting used to the different elements. This weekend, however, has been a really good test. 260 mile round trip between home (just south of Newcastle) and Edinburgh. Tyne Tunnel / A19 / A1 all the way giving a decent combination of 60 and 70 mph roads under varying conditions. Outward journey early Saturday morning saw pretty uncomfortable rainy weather the majority of the way there with not too bad traffic conditions and a full load. Quite impressed by 52 MPG on the trip computer. I know there is always comment about the inaccuracies of these things but, to my mind, it gives a general guide and if that is all that is used it is always compared to its own previous readings, so suits me. The return journey early this morning had a slightly lighter load and not so much bad weather but had a couple of lengthy sections stuck at 50 behind HGV traffic. This really seemed to push the economy giving me a very healthy 57.6 MPG. I also noticed quite a number of decent stretches of 'coasting' which would have helped this figure, I guess. The real bonus features I found were with the actual drive quality. That wee 1.0 engine just purred along and never felt under-powered. Combined with the silky smoothness of the DSG gearbox and the general suspension, road noise level and overall comfort of the ride made this car a joy to drive. Even my good lady wife was happy and she hates travelling. She has always been extremely prone to travel sickness, which was one of the reasons for going to the DSG box, but this trip had her rather happy we had made this choice! Overall I felt that this small car felt like it was bigger, more powerful and more 'upmarket' than it should. One month and 600 miles in and I'm a happy Fabia-ist.
  24. Presuming you mean: https://tps.trade/ rather than Telephone Preference Service then their parts search shows a big fat zero.
