Satellite navigation units (either portable or integrated into the car) calculate your car’s speed by measuring actual distance travelled over time using GPS satellite tracking. They repeatedly locate your exact position on earth via satellite and calculate how far you have travelled, then divide by the time it took for you to travel that distance. Satnav accuracy is determined by satellite signal quality and is unaffected by your car’s tyres. Many satnavs are unable to account for changes in vertical direction, so they may be less accurate if you are travelling up or down a steep hill. They are also inherently more accurate at higher speeds, as a larger distance over time reduces rounding errors, but a satnav will usually be much closer to a car’s true speed than the speedometer. Some factory satnav systems will also use data from the car to integrate with the GPS signal to improve overall accuracy. https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/how-accurate-is-a-car-speedometer/- the truth about electric cars
I think people conflate the two issues. 1: Speedometers can be up to 10% higher than the speed driven but not allowed to under read. "The UK law is based on the EU standard, with some minor changes. A speedo must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph." 2: The RAC report that Am I allowed a 10% leeway of the speed limit? In the eyes of the law, you’re liable for a speeding fine as soon as you exceed the limit. So if you’re doing 31mph in a 30 limit or 71mph on a motorway, you’re breaking the law. Guidance from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) does recommend giving drivers a so-called ‘10% plus 2’ leeway, to aid police officers in using 'discretion', however, it is well worth remembering this is only a recommendation, not the law. Most speed cameras have to be manually set to trigger at a speed, however, it is unconfirmed whether they are in fact set 10% above the limit. It's not worth gambling and assuming they give you 10% - never exceed the speed limit. When you are caught speeding by a mobile camera, it is up to the police officer's discretion to penalise you if you are over the speed limit in any way, they can choose to take the NPCC's guidance, but do not have to, because - as stated above - 1 mile an hour over is still breaking the law. It sounds like simple advice, but to avoid all of the above complications it's best to never speed at all. So my take on it is If a camera/speedgun catches you at 10% over the speed limit there is a fair assumption that you know you are speeding. E.G if you are caught doing 80mph the car is probably telling you 85mph or above- the truth about electric cars
I think it's why we now get more middle lane hoggers. Cruise control set to 70 car doing about 65 and the car behind is set at 70 but more accurate, or someone who sets to 77mph to allow for it being wrong. But the one in front thinks " I am doing the speed limit,so I don't have to pull over" I don't think changing the wheels and tyre spec helps either, it will mess with the ratios. You end up with the third and fourth lanes going slower than 1 and 2.- the truth about electric cars

The Global Significance of Indonesian NickelImpact on Global Supply ChainsIndonesia's decisions regarding nickel production and export policies reverberate throughout global supply chains. As the source of half the world's mined nickel, production disruptions can trigger immediate price responses and availability concerns globally. The country has become indispensable to electric vehicle manufacturing, supplying approximately 40% of the nickel used in EV batteries worldwide. Major automakers including Tesla, Volkswagen, and BYD have established direct supply agreements with Indonesian producers to secure stable nickel supplies for their battery production. In the stainless steel industry, Indonesian nickel pig iron (NPI) has transformed production economics, particularly in China, which relies on Indonesian material for approximately 65% of its nickel inputs for stainless steel manufacturing. Beyond commercial applications, Indonesian nickel has strategic importance for defense applications. Nickel alloys are critical components in jet engines, submarine systems, and missile technology, making secure supply chains a national security priority for many countries. https://discoveryalert.com.au/news/indonesian-nickel-industry-growth-challenges-2025/- the truth about electric cars
Statement from Volkswagen Group:Since 2021, the Volkswagen Group has also provided information on the fulfilment of its human rights due diligence obligations in the raw materials supply chain, including reporting on the status, progress and goals of the raw material due diligence management system, in an annual “Responsible Raw Materials Report”. Here is an excerpt from the nickel chapter: In 2024, we conducted a field trip to Indonesia to assess environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks related to nickel mining. The trip facilitated engagement with local stakeholders, including government bodies, workers’ unions and community representatives, to identify challenges and implement risk mitigation strategies. In the reporting year, the Volkswagen Group took a leadership role as a founding member of an on-the-ground partnership project in Indonesia. This initiative focuses on driving on-the-ground improvements addressing key ESG risks such as biodiversity loss, labor conditions, human rights impacts, water contamination and tailing management. The partnership promotes collaboration with local stakeholders, including mining companies, NGOs and community representatives, to implement tangible solutions and improve industry practices. Potential on-the-ground projects in the Indonesian regions of Sulawesi and Halmahera were evaluated. Following these scoping activities, implementation of the projects is planned to start in 2025. We also aligned with the Chinese and Indonesian companies on in-country work in Indonesia to promote sustainable sourcing and enhance traceability. During the reporting year, the Volkswagen Group also continued to engage in discussions with NGOs, media and other stakeholders to target key issues such as biodiversity degration and human rights risks and explored satellite monitoring programs of the European Space Programme partnership to monitor deforestation activities. Insurers do have access to comparison site quotes. Last year my renewal came via email with a click to pay. When i went to a comparison site for quotes i couldn't find cheaper so went back to the app to pay and the option had been removed saying I now had to phone. When I rang and queried it apparantley when filling in the form online at the meercat i had changed my job. I hadn't actually changed what i do for work i just picked a different descriptor in the drop down box. The renewal remained the same- Hastings asking for car photos.
That's interesting about the private plate. I have one but always insure the car with the number that is on it before changing over, because you have to wait for the v5 to do it yourself online. if you used your number on the phone before doing the change they may want the pictures because their database will still show your car as a Karoq?- Hastings asking for car photos.
It is elsewhere suggested on the world wide web that everything typed into comparison sites is collated, so if someone does a search for a car insurance quote and inputs details then submits details again and changing what they have put to see if the price alters. The insurer will then query the change. If mods have been input before for that registration then later not, photos would be needed to verify?- Hastings asking for car photos.
If you declared the factory options they may just be looking to check? Did you do a history check on the vehicle before purchase? They may know something about the car they need to verify? Also Hastings are a Broker not an insurer so it's possible the particular underwriter that they have the quote from needs them.- Why ford, Whhhyyyy??
