  1. Skodayouth, you dont happen to have one of those technical info sheets for the 8v do you ? RBW
  2. Thanks all. Lummox, I checked the head gasket after you mentioned it in a previous thread and couldnt find the word TEMAC. I presume this is on a 'tab' that sticks out on the gasket between the head and the block ? Is it always on the RHS or LHS ? Is it a particular colour or material ? I'll have another look at the weekend in the light. If it isnt there, should it be replaced, or does that open up a can of worms ? Again thanks all. RBW.
  3. Hiya all, A thread recently talked about using G12+ coolant iirc specifically for the 1.4 8v. Can i get this from any autostore, or is it just Skoda dealers ? My low level coolant warning light has come on again, and I brought some coolant a while ago to top up, but this was just a bottle I brought from Halfords, not the 'pink one'. I cant get to a skoda dealer at the moment, so just wanted to know if I can get it from anywhere else (even if VW garages will stock it, as there is one near work). Not too worried about having to top it up, as it tends to need topping up every 5 months or so, and the temperature always stays at the middle of the gauge (unless someone wants to worry me that impending head gasket failure is due !). My car is a 2000 1.4 8v with 57K on it. Cheers. RBW.
  4. Hiya all, I've got a 1.4mpi Fabia Comfort that i drive 'enthusiastically' and scared myself silly today with the rain. Currently got Michelin Energy tyres on the front, does anyone have experience with Michelin Exalto's ? Dont mind sacrificing a bit of wear, just want a tyre that grips now and then ! Cheers. RBW. P.s. Probably especially bad today as lots of rain after a dry period, but the front end was breaking loose a ridiculously low speeds. P.P.S Size is 185/60R14
  5. Hiya all, 5 year old Fabia 1.4mpi, and the air-con has started working intermittantly. How much should this cost to fix ? Is it just a case of re-charging it ? Ive got an MOT due, and the garage offer a 'free' air con check, but I know its faulty, so just wonder what the likely damage is ? Cheers. RBW.
  6. I cant find it, want to put my Fabia up for sale... is there a section ? RBW
  7. Some good replies , a few points... The Seat just doesnt do it for me, not sure why, just dont like the interior, or the way the car looks. Roo, your comment that the Polo GT (now the sport I think) is the same as the Fabia vrS, my understanding was whilst the running gear was the same, but Skoda and VW tuned the suspension slightly differently (perhaps shock damping rates etc..). Alternatively I could be talking ****e..... jtstatic, you say 'vRS is a better buy', and I think I probably agree with you, but it kinda depends what the person considers to be value. Are the NVH levels slightly better on the VW, will the paint look better in 5 years etc... Are we at a point now with Skoda,VW and Audi that they will deliberately engineer in differences to distinguish between the ranges. Thats a detailled list Tom_vrs, you having a quiet night ? I do like the indicators on the mirrors, but money is money.... RBW.
  8. Thanks WW_VRS My comments about the furby suspension are from reading a few write ups (not vrS or Sport) saying that the Fabia suspension is slightly better and rides better than the Polo. I do expect the vRS to be nose heavy, and handle accordingly (as I am sure the Polo will do too). I should add I have tried the vRS.... but not the Polo. Any more ? RBW.
  9. Hi all, Very happy 1.4 8v owner here (5 years old, 50K), but i'm thinking about changing for a diesel and obviously the Fabia vRS is top of the list. Saw the facelifted polo at the weekend and wondered what the differences are. Firstly, does anyone know of a half decent VW forum ? Secondly, anyone able to compare them ? From what I know (or assume I should say), the differences are..... Skoda + points Suspension tuned slightly better Cheaper (after discounts between
  10. Thanks ScoobyChris !!! My Drivers side one touch stopped working, but your tip on how to enable it worked fine. RBW
  11. Does the brake pad wear light come on with ignition, then go off ?
  12. Theres been a few threads on here already about the 4x4 Fabia, and apparently there is already a running version. From the rumours, it will have Octavia running gear, but dont know how that will affect wheelbase and track etc... Im guessing it will be the 2.0 FSI 150bhp, as in the Octavia 4x4. Question is a) will skoda commit to it, and will the UK get some ! If it does happen, it will be a limited run though, capitalising on the WRC. Personally I'd like to see a 2.0 TDI with DSG 4x4, but I dont think that will happen somehow RBW
  13. Has anyone got any more info on the possible limited run of 1500 Fabia 4X4's ? Will it happen ? What engine ? etc.....
  14. Will the Diesel 4X4 L&K still have the 105bhp engine ?
  15. For us poor peeps on two wheel drive, what is the general opinion of winter tyres (talking specifically about the UK). I couldnt find any tyre place with winter tyres in stock, and whilst one said he could order them (Michelin Alpin's), they were quite expensive at
  16. lol, Commodore 64, and an Oric if you remember that..... Brother had a ZX-81.
  17. I'm still thinking about this, how easy is it to 'mildly' tune the 105 pd unit ? (e.g. to 130 or so). RBW
  18. Mmm.. I like the idea of the diesel 4X4, anyone want to hazard a guess at 0-60 times and combined mpg for the diesel ? This might be the perfect replacement for my 4 year old Fabia. The non 4X4 Diesel hatch (105) is 0-60 in 11.8 and mpg is 53.3 combined. So about 13.5 seconds to 60 and 45mpg combined sound about right ?
  19. I've updated the thread in 'Group Buys and Promotions', but I just wanted to say a big thanks to BigK for retro-fitting cruise to my 2000 1.4 8v Fabia. I do about 18000 miles a year at the moment, and really enjoy cruise equipped cars on long journeys. Having cruise installed will probably make me keep the car for longer, as there is nothing else wrong with it. I fancy the VRS, and have test driven it, but as I think I picked up ANOTHER 3 points in Nottingham yesterday (mobile camera hiding), perhaps in hindsight this is not the best idea. BigK certainly seemed to know his stuff, and had the car in bits and pieces within minutes... total install time was well under 2 hours. He also turned the 'anti-jacking' option on, to lock the doors automatically over 5mph. All in all, a great job, and I consider it to be good value for money, retaining the original look of the car (e.g. OEM parts). I should point out it was by no means a certainty that this would work, just the luck of the draw I guess as to whether the Engine Management System (or whatever it is), could support the cruise control, but I figured it was worth the risk. As it was an 'older' model, I was quite pessimistic, but within about 20 mins or so BigK tested it and assured me it was going to work. Cheers. RBW.
  20. Camerashy, a bummer of a day, but I think devonutopia's post is on the money. Also.... A quick note on accuracy of speedo. We all know speedo's overread, but my speedo overeads by quite a margin, at an indicated 78mph, GPS shows me as doing 70mph (whilst there will be some software smoothing of this, it is consistent at that speed - and in my wifes mini the difference on the same stretch of road is much less, 73 = 70 mph.). Find out the speed limit on the dual carraigeway, if there are no repeater signs, then as has been suggested already, I reckon you will be fine. Id be interested to know how neat a job the windscreen replacement is, as Ive had a chip repaired (badly), and the whole screen really needs replacing. Now crack open a beer, get your re-sit sorted and chill RBW. P.S. There are some idiots on the road !
