  1. Does it not have a manual mode that coud be used to hold on to a gear when you need to?
  2. "you have reached your quota of positive votes for the day" :(
  3. That one looks good, keeps the lights un-obstructed and holds the edge of the tailgate. Some strategically placed sponge tape will prevent paint damage I would think.
  4. Thankfully I ride a bit faster than that. On the flat I'll be at around 18mph, downhill, anything from 22mph - 35mph depending how steep it is. Last commute I passed 3 other cyclists wobbling along at no more than 10mph. They looked like they did this a lot, so surely they could have gone faster? But then, give me something with wheels and I want to see how fast I can make it go, LOL
  5. My sister has a car on order which will hopefully have the new wheel and gearstick. Delivery estimated in February.
  6. IMO, having 2 bikes on the roof shouldn't be a problem, I don't know if anyone on here has tried a bike rack yet. I tried this method for one bike: Airbag switch-off is only available with city-safe. I think it's a bit of a shame that the airbag switch-off isn't fitted to all cars as standard anyway, but hey-ho.
  7. Cringeworthy title :S It could be something like this:
  8. If you are riding under street lights, then there is absolutely no need for a floodlight on the front. You only need something like that for unlit roads. As a minimum, a rear light is essential IMO. My front light is about the same brightness as a decent torch. A flashing light draws attention to it, but a steady light is easier to judge distance from, which is the reason for my 2 rear lights.
  9. Had a test of my GoPro in the car today. Since the seats have integrated headrests, I can't use the mount I made before, so I tried out the suction mount. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCLwQ0hPfcc
  10. 2nd one: heh, what an idiot, very lucky to have missed the oncoming car. Mind you, the camera car was almost as bad following him through an overtake of that distance.
  11. Very hard choice this year, every single one of them would deserve it and there are even more that didn't make the shortlist. Personally I would go with Wiggo or Chris Hoy.
  12. No, no, no. The roads are not just for cars, and drivers do not own them. They are for public use, so motorcycles, mopeds, horses and cyclists have every right to be there. Everybody pays for the roads, not just drivers. I'm liking my cycling, it's fun. I do avoid busy main A roads though if I can, and stick to the quieter country roads, it's much more peaceful there. It would be fantastic in towns if there were physically separated cycle lanes, not just those useless bits of green tarmac 0.5m wide, and not shared footpaths. Sadly it's not really possible in most places and planners just don't think about it. Ah, why did you let them pull up alongside you? I'll normally ride about where the nearside wheels of the cars will be. That means you are part of the traffic and they can't ignore you (in theory), to pass you they have to overtake and they then have to think about it. If you ride in the gutter, drivers will ignore you and carve you up mercilessly. When waiting at traffic lights or a junction, I will be in the middle of the lane. When I get to a choke point where it would not be safe for a car to pass me, I will move to the middle of the lane, then return to the left. Be assertive to keep yourself safe, but don't be an @rse. As for lights, I have two rear lights, one flashing and one constant along with a single front LED that stays on constant. It's not a super-searchlight thing, but I angle it down slightly so I don't risk dazzling anyone. It's really annoying riding home from work in the dark (through town) with my lights on, bright jacket etc.. to see some idiot in black without lights riding on the pavement. grrr. Opinion in the cycling forms is that these super-bright lights are not appropriate to use in towns under street lights, they are just too bright. Out in the country, fine, but make sure you angle them down. Sadly not everyone has this kind of sense :( I have to say though that the vast majority of drivers are very respectful, there's only been one or two that passed too close for comfort, so clearly my tactic works.
  13. Yes, repair costs will be a factor. Biggest factor seems to be where you live, your age and your claims history. I did a quick quote from Direct line and it came up with £195
  14. The problem with comparing to the manufacturer tests is that weather and traffic conditions can vary hugely. The official test is done under controlled conditions, so the result can be directly compared with other cars. I could repeat the journey that I posted and get only 60mpg, then again and get 68mpg, without seeming to drive any different. Wind in particular can make a massive difference, as can traffic levels in town driving. Someone living in a very flay area may routinely achieve 68mpg, another living in a very hilly area won't get near to it. That's pretty much why I only look at the combined figures to see what should be achieveable on a decent run.
  15. Back on topic Up! GT ? Or a Citigo vRS if such a thing comes about (Pleeeeaaaaasssse Skoda!)
  16. Don't let it labour at too low revs. If you are below 1500rpm, change down.
  17. Black looks good. There's an anthracite one around here, which looks awesome! Shame the colour appears to have been withdrawn from the Fabia :(
  18. Yep, give it some work to do, don't baby it around.
  19. Headlight switch replaced and all is now as it should be
