  1. Forgive my ignorance, but is there a way to measure 0-60 times with reasonable accuracy for laypeople such as myself? I had thought of using a video camera on the speedo but as people have pointed out, 60mph on my car might not be 60mph in real life. I've had a look on the web and there's a few devices and even an iPhone app. How on earth do these work? It's a while since I did physics, can you determine speed from time and g force? Does it matter how much your car weighs (it's mass?). The latest G Tech unit claims to know all sorts of things just from your 12v socket, eh??? Are these gimmicks? Can a consumer GPS based device be accurate enough? So many dam questions. And I must ask my missus if I can ejaculate over her feet tonight while she does a hand stand, it is Friday!
  2. A comment that it "goes" from a VRS driver is praise indeed for the engine!
  3. Ah, I wrongly assumed all dealers were equal and paid the same trade price for individual factory ordered cars, and had similar margins, if it's a case that some get them cheaper through higher volume orders or whatever, that could explain why some dealers can't/won't budge.
  4. The internet has certainly changed things for car buyers. I would fully expect a local dealer to match a DtD/Broadspeed price if the alternative was to lose the sale. They'd even make more money than the DtD chosen dealer because there would be no comission or fee to pay the agent. Surely getting the sale and making some money on it is better than no sale at all?
  5. Brilliant photo futurama - love that gold colour. How much would a good quality respray cost?
  6. Nice one, looks good in white. You'll be too busy having fun to notice the large fuel costs!
  7. Right, further to my post above I was sure mine only worked when the rear heater was also on, sure I read that somewhere. So this morning I found I had misted mirrors but a clear rear window so an ideal time to test! After starting the car I did notice a faint click from the dash (like a relay) when the mirror switch was turned to the heater position, even with the rear heater off, and lo and behond, the mirrors cleared very quickly. Without the rear heater on. So I have now moved the switch to the left position and not the heater - and am glad they have not burned out, as they've been on for two years
  8. My switch has also been in the middle position for about 99.9% of the time. I assumed they only heated when the rear window heater was also switched on. Ooops!
  9. Excellent, many thanks guys
  10. Can anyone advise, or point me in the direction of, the following measurements (can't see them in the brochure): What is load length with back seats folded (ie distance on the boot floor from the back of the folded seats to the rear lip)? What is the load length with the back seats removed completely - I realise this might vary depending on how far forwards/back the front seats are? Thanks in advance for any help .
  11. Thanks Niall, some good points there to consider.
  12. Glad I found this thread - when I was stationary and turning the wheel to/from full lock in the snow last week, mine also made some pretty bad sounds and judders. Has been fine before and after. Thought it must be snow related.
  13. I also used Angel Tuning and am pleased with service, price and the remap.
  14. The forum may not be set up to update counters/stats instantly - some do so every hour to save on server resources.
  15. Black is a great colour. Just take time/care cleaning it to avoid swirl marks and invest in some good quality wax to repel the dust. That clip is also very good, some nice shots of both the interior and exterior, the Yeti looks aggressive from the front in black (and great in the snow) and it's a colour that should never go out of fashion.
  16. I agree prodata, in gear acceleration times are the most useful figures. They are quite hard to come by though. The debate about torque and power rages on most car forums (a bit like the diesel and petrol arguments). Some say torque is the useful figure as it shows the possibility of acceleration. Others say that one is just the product of the other at a certain RPM anyway, and it's BHP that rules. All I know is that if you have lots of both and your car doesn't weigh much, it's fast
  17. Thanks for the replies - very useful info. Anthony I'm looking for something which is going to be a bit more rugged than a standard car, will cope with bad weather and some limited off roading (that would be unmade tracks and the verges of fields - but not the Amazon jungle, sand, rivers etc). However on road to be refined and comfortable. I would like something with a little bit of speed, not necessarily off the lights, but I cannot live without overtaking grunt as I have to drive on some of East Anglia's A roads. I like my gadgets, and would like a good opening roof, parking assistance, heated windscreen would be a bonus. Four wheel drive is desirable. Budget (up to 20k-25k) means the better stuff is out of my reach (Range Rover etc) at least if buying new. The more you start looking around the more sense the Yeti makes for the money. I am just wondering if there is anything else worth looking at. The recent weather has left me thinking whether I should look at something more rugged and with permanent 4x4. But if I'm honest, the number of snowy days is still limited in this country and I think tyre choice is as important as four wheel drive. Also at my budget, getting something better off road means something that won't be as good for on road (99% of my driving).
  18. Are there any Yeti owners here who test drove alternative 4x4s and settled on the Yeti? If so, what did you drive and what did you like/not like in comparison to the Yeti? I'm interested in alternatives I should consider going to look at. The Qashqai was a nice drive but I thought you got more for the money with the Yeti, better performance and the sun roof also opens! The Tiguan has some gadgets I like the look of (rear camera) and the option of a 2.0tsi but the cost is way up!! Any comments on the new 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe? Someone has suggested to me I should also look at used Range Rovers - genuinely good off road and comfortable (but slow?).
  19. Me too. But as Anthony says, diesels are so good these days. Performance 0-60 isn't shabby anymore if you get the higher BHP one, loads more torque makes them better "real world" for overtaking and the likes, more economical, cheaper to tax, great remap potential. It used to be the case there was such a difference in price you needed to do loads of miles to justify diesel, and then it was just for economy reasons and not for performance. But now with the extra tax and showroom tax, there's not a great deal of difference in UK costs between the 1.8 and the similar powered diesel when you take into account a few years of ownership. And aside from a slightly different drive, the diesel offers similar acceleration and much more torque.
  20. No, I don't think it is. You need to go up to the 1.8 or a diesel. Full specs in the brochure: http://www.skoda.co.uk/pdf/brochure_yeti.pdf
  21. Thanks for the replies and photos, that must be what they were referring to. So the list of options that I want but cannot have, gets bigger... rear camera (VW does it, why not Skoda?), wood effect trim (Europe but not UK), heated windscreen (available on the Superb), DSG on the 1.8Tsi You'd think after having been bashed about in a Fabia for the last few years I'd be a lot less fussy!
  22. That's one thing about my VRS that bugs me, if I'm freezing at some outdoor event I can't jump in the car, turn it on and heat up, because at idle it doesn't warm up at all even after 15-20 mins. It only heats up when I drive.
  23. Me neither, but this thread has reminded me to get one!
