  1. If you have the cash or loan arranged, it's a shame that you can't find a 2+ year old car from a private seller, as dealers offer really low prices on PX. Have you tried putting a wanted advert on this site? Having had a manual mapped 220, it was far more engaging and quicker than my 245 7 spd DSG Golf PP with VAQ diff. The only issue as discussed many times on this forum, regardless of whether the car has a VAQ diff or not, is simply putting the power down from a standing start in anything other than dry conditions. Even rolling traction can sometimes be an issue, regardless of rubber. Good luck with your purchase, Octavias are great cars, probably a bit less refined re sound insulation with more road surface noise than your BMW but they offer great value for money and I really enjoyed having one.
  2. I left my electrically operated boot open in gusting wind today and afterwards it wouldn’t shut Itself fully, leaving me to lean on it for the last 5mm final click/lock. It also only opened about 3/4. It now opens and closes correctly, only after I opened it, where it remained 3/4 open and then pushed it fully open. It then closed normally. I wonder if the struts were slightly out of alignment and by pushing it fully open, straightened them. Is this a common niggle-problem?
  3. I think the alarm is a slow drain and the car just needs to be driven. I use and maintain about 30 car batteries on clay pigeon traps at a shooting club. They’re all 3-5 years old and barely lost any charge in 3 months of inactivity. My 19 reg car’s battery needed several Optimate save/charges procedures during lockdown.
  4. I think bikes have the edge on most cars to a certain speed. However that’s just in a straight line. The Tutor system sounds very big brother, is it satellite tracking or cameras?
  5. If that's a 1000cc sportsbike then you were probably well over 250kmh
  6. Unlucky. It seems that unless you can physically get out on the motorway, measure the hole and then price that they didn’t remedy it within the timescale ( which you probably can’t) then you’ve lost out. 😥
  7. Had this done ...in my dreams 🤪
  8. They might contribute but I suspect only towards a dealer network repair. I very much doubt they will help you if it’s outside of the network and warranty period, as it’s so expensive and that it’s not yet a widespread issue...like previous ABS and chain tensioner type issuess, even if there’s a service bulletin. I hope you do get some help with such a low mileage and newish car.
  9. I checked the oil properly today ie on flat ground 5 mins after turning off with the oil temp at 90 +C and was a bit surprised to find it was not too far off the bottom of the hatched area after 4400 miles, the last 2000 miles in free flowing rural and motorway miles. I say surprised as my mapped 220 VRS didn’t use a drop in 4 years. 250ml of Castrol SAE 5W-30 VW 504-507 returned it to over 1/2 way up the hatched area. I checked the oil type with a dealership, which stated that the models built from Nov 19 use 0W-30 oil. As mine was built in Jul 19 model it is on long-life service interval using 5W-30. According to the dealer when it’s serviced in October, it will be filled up with 0W-30. He did say if I topped up with the wrong oil, (yes I know it’s just oil!) I presume he means not 5W-30, i.e. 0W - 30 then the warranty would be invalidated if it blew up. It won’t blow up. I presume the 0W-30 oil is VW 508 00.
  10. Just to get away from Politics and viruses, this photo will make all the 50+ guys smile with memories. I rescued this from an old car club years ago. It hangs on my garage wall. There are a lot of the cars that I saw coming through my dad’s hands, when he ran a second hand car business in the 1970’s. If you check out the Simca plugs, you’ll see why I laugh when people ask on this forum if 110 Bhp is enough for a Fabia. Although today’s cars are much faster, I bet you’d be hard pushed to do Bristol to Weymouth quicker nowadays, due to the amount of traffic, than our old Sunbeam Rapier or S type Jag 3.8... which I hated as I wanted a new Cortina 2.0 GXL!! 😄with a blue light like my friends dad had ...( who was a Fire Brigade chief) . My dad had 6 old Jags all in working order, in the early 80’s parked at our house. Here’s a 420 with chrome wire wheels, tinted windows and a E-type engine and the XJ6 4.2 reg that I got to drive as a 19 year old on leave from Germany. The most exotic one I got to drive on my leaves back in the UK was a NSU RO 80 again, mine for a week or so. The best handling was an Alfa 2.0 GTV.
  11. My car-crazy son's 19 reg S60 T5 was reversed into by a private motorist early this morning, whilst it was parked outside his house. The damage is probably a rear door skin or even a new door but no intrusion into the sill or roof line. The other driver was decent enough to leave a note with their details. My son called the driver at 0900 and by 1100 was called back by their insurers, ESURE. They confirmed that they are sending £200 compensation and confirmed that they accept full blame, i.e. no detrimental affect to my son's NCB. By 1300 he had a top of the range XC60 delivered to his house. Great response and pure karma, as a van hire company let him down today after it had promised him a Transit to move to new build house this Thursday. Instead of folding the rear seats down in his saloon S60, he can now move everything in the XC60 apart from a king-size mattress. Kudos to the other driver (who didn't use their reverse sensors or rear view camera 🙄) and to ESURE's accident handlers.
  12. Help. I am the 2nd owner and have tried to alter the goodbye message or remove it. I set my name on driver personalisation and it displays it in the dash. When I switch the engine off and go to exit the car, the Entertainment screen say's " Goodbye Ellie C. " any ideas how to change it? I am not going to change my name to Ellie 😁
  13. No water squirting out 2 days ago as I was returning home. Sat on drive and suddenly worked. Not used again until today....didn't work. Got home. Water bottle full, only ever use the VAG approved liquid, definitely no sound of a washer pump motor whirring. Checked as far as I could see, there were no loose connections. Tried to check if it was a fuse, the only suitable fuse I could find in the handback pages 228-231, was 19 (windscreen wiper) under the bonnet. Removed, shiny with no oxidisation, so refitted it and pushed all the other fuses to check they were correctly seated. Pulled and pushed the washer stalk, whirring noise and washer fluid pumped out of the front and rear screen jets. 1. Has anybody had a similar experience with the MkIII Octy, if so what was the solution. (Please no stories of 1970's Cortinas etc ) 2. Is fuse 19 the correct one, I didn't see any mention of a dedicated washer pump fuse. 3. Is it easy to access and remove the water bottle via the left front inner wing panel? I think I might have to change /check the pump if this continues to happen. Thanks
