Second Hand buying red flags - 272 Petrol
It's not the ride height that DCC should be bought for. Despite my initial post on buying the Superb after the GTI, regarding a floaty feeling and sticking with my GTI or similar around twisting A roads, DCC In sport mode changes it completely and there's a lot more confidence-inspiring body control when pushing on a bit....I don't mean Rally GB power slides before anybody gets too excited. I think it's a very good options, standard as with with all the other goodies on the L&K.

Second Hand buying red flags - 272 Petrol
If the first 2 reg letters range from KM - KY I think these are the Skoda HQ mgmt cars, it could be a reason why it's had 2 owners. I.e sold on after 6 months. Check if it's stolen recovered, ideally you would test drive it and check the paint/ bodywork for dents etc. 30-32 Mpg is normal for shortish commutes, probably worse if pure town work. the mileage suggests that it was driven regularly, check if it needs its 1st oil service. It should be under warranty and may be cheaper as it's not at a franchised dealer.

Find me a Superb...
Sasha stick out for the dragon green. You've recently missed out on a fully optioned dragon green Sportline 272, I think it was £28K in Mansfield. I looked at it as I love the colour. However I am now totally spoilt by the comfort and options on my velvet red L&K, the Sportline only lacked ventilated seats. Having had a rallye green VRS, you'll get used to the marmite or more likely the 'I love it' comments. You'll also never have to search for it in a car park amongst all the black and grey cars. My tip is to buy a very low mileage 6 month old ex-Skoda mgmt car just after the reg change, which is how I bought my first VRS and recently the Superb. I saved £14K this time according to list price, yes before anybody chips in, I know nobody pays the full list price. Check the ads for cars with Milton Keynes area plates.

1.5 TSI judder and Km display error
It is manual. I will ask him if the garage has fixed the problems.

Very confused - front assist!
Sounds dodgy. I would confirm that the car doesn’t have cruise control, unless you mean ACC and contact the local Skoda dealer, to check if it really was booked in for a recalibration. A VCDS guru might be able to confirm that the Front Assist option can be removed, although I would have thought it could be disabled rather than completely removed from the menu. My Octavia had Front Assist with manual cruise control, I.e. not Active Cruise Control. It did work effectively.

Reversing Camera Help
So how did they fit one in the factory to my 19 reg? You'd think that it already has the wiring, simply needs the correct module activating and if required, holes drilling.

MotoGP 2022 (and previous season back to 2018)
Yes agreed. Mir totally deserved to win, miles ahead before the red flag. unlucky his tyres gave up as the 2nd part of the race was a 12 lap sprint. Vinales amazing dismount into turn 1 at 140Mph with no brakes.

MotoGP 2022 (and previous season back to 2018)
Did you watch the race on BT sport? Neil Hodgson predicted correctly on the last lap that as his pit board showed +0 even though he had about .5 of a second, that Pol would go defensive and he did, thus allowing Miller to catch him. If he had stayed on the same lines as the previous lap he would have won easily. He took it quite graciously, considering his recent spat with Olivera who benefited. Great to see other makes, new names, teams and non-factory winners on the podium.

Severe vibration problems on Superb S3
That sounds like a sticking caliper, which does happen when cars aren't driven regularly.... my wifes car that has very low mileage, has just had a sticking caliper repaired. Other than that, the vibration could be a warped disc.

1.5 TSI judder and Km display error
My friend's 2 week old 1.5 TSI has been recalled for for diagnostic checking due to juddering and an error with the units distance display. Although his speedo and odometer shows Mph, he is unable to change distance units from Km to Mph. The Satnav is only showing distance in Km but speed limits in Mph. Also Speed units can be changed to Mph but Kmh also remains illuminated. The dealers demonstrator has the same issue, which they only seemed to realise after my friend rang up on the way home from picking it up. The dealers initially thought he couldn't work through the menu but now have the same issue. He also says it judders on pull away when cold. He traded in a 17 reg Octavia 1.4 TSI SE which was butter smooth. Hopefully it will get a quick fix.

Changing cars
Who cares about statistics, that's going to be the last thing on my mind if a car comes hurtling at me on my side of the road. From several recent experiences on my motorcycle and in the car, the idiots who force their way through against oncoming traffic in underpowered cars, risking everybody's lives, are just as likely to be young women as they are to be young men.

Canton - distortion from center speaker
It did, I bought a new one in 2015 and specced it with Bolero, I didn't bother with Amundsen.
-
To Canton or not to Canton - that is the question?
I think it is standard on the L&K, the ventilated seats are pretty handy too along with all the other gadgets. I can assure you the Octavia Canton is not as good as the Superb Canton. The Superb has a quieter cabin and less road noise...at least it does on my L&K with 18” deeper profile tyres. I specified Canton when I ordered a new Octavia VRS, as my previous MkII VRS audio system was tinny and not even as good as my wife’s Daihatsu Sirion!

New personal best - 1.5Tsi 83.3mpg / 153miles
Well driven. You obviously enjoyed relatively flowing traffic , used a combination of smooth steady throttle and read the road well to avoid wasting momentum and fuel. Ignore the doubters and critics who seem to get a buzz out of 'having their say' on this site.

2020 F1 Discussion
I reckon Alonso and probably Vettel are yesterday's men. There's plenty of hungry talent coming through. Perhaps Verstappen will replace Hamilton...just in time for the hybrid power unit to be bettered or replaced and Mercedes invincible hegemony to come to an end.

2.0 tsi vrs 2016
Having run my 2015 manual from new for 3 years then having a Shark stage 1 map installed for the last 18 months of ownership , I am fully qualified to comment. The standard clutch was easily able to cope. However I hardly every ripped it from a standing start, because it was pointless, they just can't put the power down efficiently. The most effective and to me, the most impressive thing, was to launch without wheelspin in 1st , get it rolling, then quickly into 2nd and if required 3rd, using the extra torque, which also allowed me to overtake very safely. It was a very worthwhile upgrade, which really improved the car and made it more fun to drive. I am sure many less sympathetic/experienced drivers of similar mapped 2.0 TSI cars, may well have regularly mashed their foot onto the accelerator from a standing start and killed their clutches, or owned 2nd hand (previuosly loved !) cars whose previous owners'driving habits had worn the clutch prematurely.

Forgot to put oil cap back on after top up, now I have engine warning!
As long as it had sufficient oil remaining and there are no knocking sounds from the engine, it should be fine. Hopefully the judder stopped once you replaced the oil cap, its absence would have caused an uneven tickover. Hopefully the EML light illuminated because the onboard diagnostics saw an imbalance caused by the missing oil cap and will extinguish or it needs a VCDS reset.

Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch
I used the paddles very rarely on my nimble GTI. I don’t know why I would want to use them on the Superb, which has the usual DSG manual shift lever. I just pull it backwards into sport mode if I want to leave a junction quickly with oncoming traffic or overtake.

Living With A Sportline Plus 272 Hatch
Unless you’re set on a dragon green (lovely colour) Sportline, My 19 reg L&K was just under 40K new. I don’t think it’s missing any useful options.

Superb 272 Sportline vs Golf R Estate
Having just swapped a 68 reg GTI 245PP DSG mainly for reasons of space in the cabin and boot, for a Superb L & K 272. Obviously 2 cars aimed at drivers with diverging image and loadspace requirements. Even an estate Golf will be smaller than an Octavia let alone a Superb. I initially wrote that the Superb wouldn't do too well around twisty bends, however in sport with DCC it's pretty good, it stiffens up and doesn't understeer or wallow in the bend. I agree with Newbie69, in fact if you haven't driven a Superb with DCC then you won't know how well it sticks to the chosen trajectory....for legal/sensible driving on public roads. So perhaps a Sportline with DCC and different wheels/tyres might be a touch better. The Superb ride comfort is good, far more relaxing and less road noise than the Golf I had. For the price, the L&K standard equipment level is fantastic. I am not sure if are any serious/usefuloptions which don't come as standard. Another reason which put me off having a R, is the higher theft rate versus the (fingers-crossed) probable non-existent risk of being burgled for the keys to my 'old man's' car 😁

vRS petrol questions
- Heated Front Screen/Winter pack
What's odd and what's your point? I gave a POV based on ownership.- Heated Front Screen/Winter pack
They'll be the same people who have cold hands scraping the windshield and trying to demist it with little portholes on short drives. The newer versions like on my Superb and Golf don't have the elements in....even though the drivers who complain about seeing the thin elements, should be looking at the road ahead, not the thin wires 60cm in front of them. Skoda definitely does better activation screen than VW, which makes you access the screen through the infotainment....so you have to take your gloves off to do it. - Heated Front Screen/Winter pack
