My 2p's worth... I am currently awaiting VAG-Com type software from ESP Automotive, which I believe will give fault diagnosis/codes, so I'll post when they've sorted it for my PDA (Ipaq 1940).

I too have this great headunit - for the money I don't think anything comes close. The "retro-appearance" is great IMHO, and I'd rather have 24bit D/A convertors than a fancy, distracting useless display any day of the week. I can recommend it highly. Great sound even with standard speakers, and the ability to biuld a huge quality system with the pre-outs.

Cheers all - job is going well so far, everyone is really nice. It's a big step from being in a practice of six to being in a building of nearly fifty - lots of faces and names, it's just a case of matching them up! ESP - software by ESP Automotive.com, who are linked to ScoobyWorld (I think). Measures BHP and torque, 0-60 and 0-100 and 1/4 mile times, fault finding with codes and other stuff. Sadly it didn't work first time, but they are sorting out the problem for me - I have an Ipaq 1940, but the software "couldn't find the port". Hoping it'll come through soon. Oh, and being sat at home for over three weeks, I felt a bit caged in - like a salmon, I'm not too sure. Jumping into a bigger job, I do feel like a fish out of water though

Just looked at my "you last logged in at..."... 30th September 2004!!! To cut a long story short, left my previous job on aforementioned date, with immediate effect, and with no landline, haven't been able to log on since. Started my new job yesterday, after a month off at home doing not a lot - been bouncing off the walls. Have managed to get an upper strut brace and cat-back Milltek exhaust fitted to my beloved Octy vRS, so hasn't been too bad. Allegedly, your honour... It's true though... I read the same article, and was confused also by the result, and by the fact that they didn't include the Fabia (although it is mentioned as an alternative in one corner), and also by the fact they continue to test petrol vs. diesel. Has anyone ever seen a saloon/exec test with petrol vs. diesel??? Although when the twin turbo diesel Vectra comes out I'm sure that will change...

An update... Went to the dealer on Saturday, spoke to a couple of people there. The general opinion (and mine now, having listened to all, including ncarring ) is that someone has taken a crafty pop at my beloved... Someone has reversed into the front of the car, in a 4x4 or van... The bumper "took" the impact and popped back out, a compression I believe, which has caused the paint to crack. Also, I have been informed that it will get worse over the winter (for obvious weather related reasons). The good news... Yup, everybody loves a bit of quoting... (leaping from a great distance into the thread, then mysteriously disappearing again...)

So what's the longest one I can get? I think I would prefer a PDA for portability and ease, and also because I can't justify buying a laptop just for the car, whereas a PDA could well be very useful... Just hoping someone knows if VAG-COM is available on one.

Thing is, it's on the top of the bumper, and there is no impact damage that I can see. Someone scrapped the nearside front bumper on the side about two or three months ago, but I can't see how it can take that long for the paint to crack... Or perhaps it might take that long, I honestly don't know...
