  1. I have had my Xperia Z phone for 2 weeks now and have noticed my headphone socket looks slightly offline - Just wondered if anyone else has found this with theirs. The flap itself is fine its just where you input the headphone jack. To describe this another way it looks off a bit like its pushed in slightly at the top, Headphones work fine and plug in ok - Just looks odd. I decided on the Xperia Z over the iphone 5 and all my friends keep slating me for it saying I should of gone for an I phone but even the guy in the shop said apple need to come up with something for their next phone as they will be left behind in terms of specs. Its a tough world out there in the world of Mobiles at the moment. Thanks in advance for any help you can give, Cheers.
  2. I need to replace my fuel sender unit in my Corolla and cant seem to get the big green screw nut off as in the picture attached. Just wondered if anyone here has any ideas or if they have managed to remove something similar. As you will see I have been trying to hammer it round with a blunt chisel but have damaged on of the lugs so stopped. I have never come across this type of fitting before as they usually have torx screws holding them in place and not a large green screw Thanks everyone.
  3. Thanks for the help Mannyo - I didn't get the docs until Wednesday and have been busy more than usual but know what you mean about saving a bit of hassle. I opened the renewal then thought I would search for a better deal the next day by the time I decided to phone my insurance company on Friday they were shut and don't re-open until Monday. If I cant cancel for the better deal then I suppose I will just have to stay with them but will certainly be on the ball for next year. I will have lost my bargaining chip also as I wanted them to try and reduce their renewal price but since it would of auto renewed at Midnight this Sunday that's probably gone for a burden too. I will keep you posted, Thanks again.
  4. I recently only 2 days ago received my car insurance renewal and it has gone up by nearly £100 despite not having any claims and its the same car, I only got round to looking at it yesterday and started to look at other companies for quotes which came in much cheaper, So tonight I went to cancel or see if they could do better their renewal price on my existing price but they were shut and are only open Mon to Fri from 8am until 6pm. The problem I have is my insurance will "auto renew" at midnight Sunday and I cant phone or make any contact with them until Monday to say I don't wish to continue, However reading their terms on the monthly direct debit form they state that I have the right to cancel within 14 days of "receiving" my renewal but there will be an admin fee of £15 to be paid but if the policy has started (as it will have) then if I can cancel all cover will cease but I will still need to pay the full premium amount plus the £15 admin fee. My annoyance is that I only received the documents on "Wednesday" which was two days ago and feel I haven't been given enough time but the documents are dated 13th May. How would I go on saying that I only received the renewal docs on Wednesday 5th June when the date on their letter states the 13th May. I think I am forced to renew with this company as my insurance will have Auto re-started on Monday and I cant make any contact with them until then, Even their claim number is closed all weekend!. The insurance company by the way is Corn hill Direct which is part of the Allianze group, I cant understand why I only got their renewal on Wednesday despite their letters being dates 13th May. Any pointers would be great, Thank you.
  5. Thats how many people feel - As you say the battery life on new phones is terrible but it can only be a matter of time until this changes with wireless charging coming into effect.
  6. I am ordering a Sony Xperia Z on Monday when they come back into stock with virgin, I am with them monthly sim only monthly and because I get virgin media services I can have the Xperia z with no upfront cost, 1200 any network minutes, 1000 texts, Free calls to any virgin mobile phone and free insurance for £17.99 a month on a 24 month contract. I have done the maths and it comes to around £431.76 over the 2 years but if I bought this handset sim free it would cost £500 then I would have to pay for a package of calls on top. I am moving up from a Sony Xperia Arc S which was a great phone. I think Sony and Samsung this year will be the ones to beat - The I Phone....well all I can say is I know loads of people that have them and want to switch as the specs on new phones now are more superior to the IPhone. Samsung have yet to unveil their Galaxy S4 very soon, god only knows what specs that will have, Bottom line is you can never keep up with technology and with phones tying you into 24 month contracts you can soon be left behind in a matter of months, Its getting silly now.
  7. Might put it onto the house contents as an item used away from the home etc., The only thing I am concerned about it being on the house insurance is if something did happen and I had to claim it would be how long would they take to process and would they be quicker at sorting it out compared to a dedicated policy.
  8. Thanks gadgetman for the links, makes good reading, thanks to the others in this thread also. Top advice
  9. Thanks for the help, I purchased the phone sim free, I am on a sim only plan which is a 30 day rolling contract. I did contact them about insurance but they told me that I would of had to have purchased the handset from them and the insurance would of have to be taken out at the point of sale. Swings and roundabouts - My bank also doesn't cover mobile phones and my house insurance excess is set high so wouldn't be worth considering that option. Not sure about the protect my bubble (doesn't sound good for starters) or the gadget cover both seem cheap at £6 a month but its the going through an actual claim with a company that counts. In other words they will soon take the payments but what are they like if a claim had to be made.
  10. Nothing worse than a knackered phone, I had a nasty experience with an old Sony Xperia X10i. Phones now do so much and can get quite hot also which can cause boards to fry. Glad you got it sorted.
  11. I have just purchased a Sony Xperia Arc S and because it is so thin am looking at mobile insurance but wanted to ask what you guys would recommend. At the moment I am looking at Protect my Bubble and Gadget Cover from the go compare website. Any recommendations would be appreciated as all of the reviews dont seem to have any people who have had experience of claiming etc.. I got the phone from Phones 4u and they want £12.99 per month for the insurance. Just trying to compare them.
  12. May go for the Avons then, like I say i have heard of them but thought they were a cheap low budget brand.
  13. It does seem that windows phone 7 seems to get a good write up - Would be nice to be able to upgrade to the newer Apollo software when it comes out when I asked at the carphone warehouse they told me that all current Windows Phones will get the free upgrade. Im not after app s just the ease of use and synchronise between PC and to make a phone call
  14. Thinking of changing my phone at the moment I have a samsung wave 3 running bada operating system but have heard that the new windows mango software phone seem to be good. Just wondered if anyone here had one and how they rate them as the software seems to be much quicker than the bada software on the samsung wave 3, Thanks
  15. Due 2 front tyres soon for the MOT and at the moment have nankangs on which have done ok for pottering around town and the odd motorway trip, However I found that they were not to good when it was wet. I am after a middle of the road tyre and there seems to be good deals near me on Firestone and Avons I can get 2 for £100 just wondered which ones are better I have heard of firestone but new to Avon although I have heard of them. Not after the performance side of it just something good for wear and will last around 15,000 miles - Thanks,
  16. Thanks guys we will be taking it to a different garage and they have said they will test the emissions for her before logging it on for test this way we wont be using up £55 a time. Will keep you posted, and double check everything again.
  17. Thanks, We are fitting a new cat on it on Wednesday so fingers crossed it will do the trick, She is a bit gutted that she has to pay the full fee again though.
  18. My sister in law has an old 1997 R Reg Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 engine (3 cylinder type) and it went through its MOT and keeps failing on emissions, so far we have replaced the Lambda sensor, The air flow metre, new spark plugs, New coil pack and new EGR valve and still it fails. these are the readings from the test sheet... 1st fast idle test: C.O 1.199% (Limit is 0.300%) FAIL HC 237 PPM (Limit is 200) FAIL Lambda 1.011 (Limit is 1.030) PASS 2nd Fast Idle test: CO 0.571% (Max Limit is 0.300% FAIL HC 183PPM (Max Limit is 200) PASS Lambda 1.046 (Max Limit is 1.030) FAIL Natural Idle Test: 0.415% (Max Limit is (0.500%) PASS We are thinking of replacing the CAT but with the car being an 1997 R Reg feel if that doesn't do anything it will be a lot of money wasted, she is a bit upset as she hasn't been driving a year yet and its her first car we had a garage do a diagnostic test which indicated a problem with the air flow meter and the EGR valve but none of these have helped with the emissions. The car has done 81,000 miles and the garage say it will be a full re-test fee of £54 now as logged it on to the VOSA computer to retest it without checking the emissions first. Any help or advice would be appreciated - Thanks.
  19. This is for the mother in law  Her handbrake cable has come away and my brother in law is trying to get it back on and cant find where the handbrake adjuster is near the handbrake end not at the drum end. Just wondered if anyone could point him in the right direction if they have had experiences of dealing with a tigra lol. Its a 1996 year vauxhall tigra so its one of the early ones, just thought to give it a shot on here. Thanks
  20. My brother in law has a 5 litre dodge ram imported from the states and his engine management light is on all the time due to different octain in UK petrol rather than the fuel in the states so how will he get on. He has had it checked and this is the cause. The new MOT rules are going to create some problems.
  21. My steering lock dosent work as I think it should :( I have to turn the steering wheel just over half a turn before it works is there a min turn criteria on the steering wheel before it becomes a fail. And why is a bloody steering lock going to now fail an MOT its more of an anti theft thing not a safety thing, I bet the MOT fee is going to rocket aswell with all these extra checks.
  22. I have a Toyota corolla 1999 year but hope someone can give me some advice on this. Recently my rear wiper motor started moving slow until the other day it would not work whatsoever. I have looked for a replacement and cant find one and the dealer wants £246 (bloody outrageous price) So I decided to remove and take apart after testing that there was voltage at the plug and on disassembly found that the grease inside had turned to thick paste, so I cleaned it all out with carb cleaner and re greased all over very generously and re-fit and it now works fine apart from now it squeaks quite loud after the first few screen wipes, the first few wipes are quite its just after it has wiped the screen 2 or 3 times it squeaks. Could this be due to me using carb cleaner to thoroughly clean the unit and its just wait and see if it works in over time or should I pack it with even more grease. I am just pleased I got it going again. Thanks.
  23. I have been using Kaspesky Internet Security for the last 4 years very easy to use and does not hog resources too much. I have previously used AVG free but got viruses as it can be slow to update. If you look on line you can get some good deals on Kaspersky and other Security software, I managed to pick up a 3 user copy of Kspersky Internet Security 2011 for £14 and got the upgrade to their 2012 software. Pays to shop around but from experience you get what you pay for especially in this day and age where there are so many threats around.
  24. LOL thats what you call quality comedy sketch Brilliant.
