  1. I had a chat with a taxi driver the other day. He had been running the 105tdi, manual, for 8 weeks and had found he was getting a sore arm due to the gear change. His last three cars were Octys. He said he regretted not getting the DSG.
  2. I checked with Vodaphone yesterday - and Carphone Warehouse - for other carriers in the UK. BIS SIM was part of Vodaphones business package but was withdrawn last year due to the increasing fraudulent use of duplicated sims. According to Carphone Warehouse none of the other carriers in the UK offer a (legal) duplicate sim for the same reason.
  3. I used to have the Mark 1. The Mark1 forum reported electrical gremlins from time to time and one of the solutions suggested there (by people involved in servicing) was to disconnect the battery so that the system re-booted. It seems this often resolved issues. I understand that on the Mark 1 there was a delay period for battery replacement etc that basically gave you about two hours before you needed the code to reactivate the system. I'm not sure what the system is for the Mark 2 - it may be similar. Due to a tightening of security by Skoda it's no longer quite as easy to get hold of the 'code' for cars as it was.
  4. I've had to go out to the car so got on my knees in the frost to have a look. Firstly, 2 above was wrong (I was misled), a rectangular hole has indeed been cut across 'part' of the underside of the bumper. Second, I have checked the 'swan-neck' towbar. There are no holes, loops or anything else to connect a cable to. There is no other connection point beneath the car anyway. Caravan Man: Could the rear towing eye not be put in place and used for that purpose?
  5. Comments noted thanks. This won't cause me a problem short term. I've actually given my dealer a number of things to look into already so might leave this for you in March or maybe Superb Lady could ask the question for an early response on Thursday. All questions will get put back to Technical Support to answer.
  6. probably fitting it this week because of getting 'approval' last week. Sorry don't know anything about charging but my car is back in tomorrow so I'll ask and see if there is an answer. Edit: Have noted Caravan Man's answer above. He seems to know about this. Note that the 'accessories' at 'accessories.skoda' website has different 13pin to 7pin connections for (I think) pre-1997 vans and those following on later.
  7. Appearance is personal, isn't it. Not so sure your right on the cleaning side though. I got my car at the weekend with Thermisto's and am pleasantly surprised just how much space there is to get into the inner rim. The 'double arms' mean you can see what's behind the spokes and also get a thin brush through. It's much easier to clean than the 5 spoke I had on the Mark 1. I quite liked the Luxons but they have even more spokes and look more difficult to clean - but haven't seen them in real life.
  8. Picked up my car at the weekend and 'think' I've got to the bottom of (some) issues with the towbar. Here's my description so far, but bear in mind I've never had a towbar before! 1. The Skoda dedicated towbar is very neat. Might be best to describe it as roughly U-shaped, where one of the legs fits vertically upwards into a hole beneath the car and is then key locked into place; by an arrangement on the towbar fitting that uses retractable ball bearings. The other end of the u has the towball. 2. There is no need to 'cut the bumper' or anything similar. 3. If the manufacturers towbar is used then the 'system' somehow becomes aware of that fact and the effect on the rear parking sensors is described on p115 of the car Owner's Manual . 'If the vehicle is equipped with a factory-fitted towing device, the border of the danger area starts - continuous tone - 5 cm further behind the vehicle' So no continuous or false readings are received under those conditions. 4. When the towbar is fitted, the 'factory towbar prep' is connected to the 'Electrics for Towbar' (a Dealer fitted accessory) and then plugged into whatever you're towing, then the car system recognises your towing and switches off the rear sensors and Park Assist. It's not yet clear if whatever your towing just needs to be electrically connected to the wiring - or connected and under electrical load - in order to do so. My guess is that it just has to be connected via 13-pin etc. 5. The reason so little was known about the towbar by dealers was simple. It seems the 'electrical' parts had to be tested for UK use. The tests weren't completed and parts signed off for use until last week. At the end of last week there were only 25 of the accessories available in the country. Simple. Pity nobody told us what was going on. So how was the car selected as Towcar of the Year? It must have been the left hand drive that was tested! My 'electrics for towbar' aren't yet installed, as the parts turned up too late last week to be fitted before the weekend, and the car needs to be returned to the dealer soon for the work to be completed.

  10. That sounds fair enough, so agreed. BUT, for Hill Hold to work there still must be a sensor somewhere. Is it likely that they would install 2 sensors or just the 1, with a double function?
  11. The 'latest' brochure at 'skoda-auto' says 14. Deactivation of interior monitoring and the inclination sensor located on the B-column on the driver’s side will partially limit alarm functionality and, therefore, for example, your dog may wait for a while in a locked vehicle without setting off the alarm. So it sounds like you 'might' be able to deactivate Hill Hold by deactivating the sensor (internal monitor). Anyone care to check?
  12. I was worried about having Ivory leather before I placed an order and got some advice from a detailer and number of dealers beforehand. What the detailer said was that it was common for dye to come out of jeans and that was something that you had to watch out for. They didn't think Ivory leather was a problem provided that it is cleaned regularly with a 'good' product and you don't let dye or dirt become ingrained. Keep feeding the leather. You need to find products that you are happy with. Whether Ivory is right for you or not depends on your lifestyle and family. What I was told is that you wouldn't want to have it if you went out fishing every weekend with four mates. I used to use Autoglym products but have switched to other products from 'polishedbliss' and 'motorgeek' .com I get my car this weekend and plan to keep some 'seat protectors' in the boot with a rug in the car just in case people get in with wet jeans, or we're out somewhere and get really dirty.
  13. What exactly is a BIS SIM. How do I get one, or what do I buy?
  14. Fairly sure I read somewhere that their target was 1000 in the first quarter. If that's correct it kind of explains 'some' of the delays - but not mine!
  15. Quote: The question Autocar asked was "How much do you need to spend to buy a proper luxury car?" Well if that was the question, Autocar got it wrong! If you check the 'Grey Book' (mentioned in threads a long long time ago) you will see that Skoda DO NOT regard the Superb 2 as a 'luxury car'. They set out to provide a car with useful features and provide value for money.
  16. Surely the main point to note is that Autocar decided to compare it against the other cars mentioned. That speaks volumes in itself.
  17. My car also hit the shore about the same time. As I understand it there's a bit of paperwork involved in the process as well as a test drive and all the other checks. If everything is in order that's great but if the workshop find something that needs sorted or adjusted (and that's surely the whole point of the exercise) then they'll need more time. Remember also that it's a new model to the workshop and the technicians will have had little or no training on the car. The last thing the dealer will want is to tell you it will only take 2 days and then have to come back to tell you they've found a problem that will delay handover. How much work is required will be influenced by the model and the options ordered. I was asked for an insurance cover note so the car could be registered - so that again takes time to sort. I've given my dealer a week for the PDI as I'd rather it was done properly. It gives the dealer sufficient time to find out how to demonstrate some of the features (which are new to them) and answer some of the questions I have asked. More time is also required if dealing with a towbar and related electrics.
  18. What I said was 'someone who USED to have an involvement with VAG' i.e. some years ago. It's clear that each of the companies within the group has to THEN develop a 'marketing strategy' to win more market share. SCZ have already made it clear that they're out to try and take some market share away from Merc, Jag and Beamers as well as hoping to take more of the fleet business - which SUK are hoping to get a share of (that's what the dealers were told at the outset when introduced to the car). It's interesting if you also look at Seat - Market segment - possibly younger, sporty, maybe still 'single' and/or looking for something smaller and different
  19. I hadn't thought of it before but maybe you've identified a good reason to have the 'Variable Boot Floor' - provided whatever you 'value' is small enough to fit into the space beneath. It would surely be almost impossible to open the 'boot floor' from within the cabin.
  20. Apart from the 2 extra speakers is there any way you can tell that you have an upgraded system, equaliser etc
  21. Has anyone any words of wisdom to offer following their own experience? Checklist?
  22. I take delivery next week and mine has Conti Sport2 's.
