My other thought was spark plugs perhaps? Newer plugs would have a stronger spark and as my car does short journeys I would imagine the current plugs are pretty carboned up.

I always press the clutch in to start every car. Not tried jump starting, though that might be an idea (cheaper than a new battery!) Would an 08 car wear the cam follower in that amount of time?

That is what I should do I agree. However, it doesnt look very good when I start a 2008 car up in the morning and it struggles to start (especially when my next door neighbours 2003 Mini cooper S fires immediately!)

2 sprint yellow cars with the same mileage with exactly the same issue. Spooky

Bit of a strange one this, but my VRS TFSI is sometimes a bit slow to start first thing in the morning. It always starts eventually but just kind of "stutters" a bit. I realise that these engines have a HPFP which needs to build up pressure to start it and that its a "characteristic" of the engine ,but I was just interested to hear if anyone had found any way of improving it. I tried the following so far: 1. turning on the ignition and waiting for all the dash lights to go out. - marginal improvement 2. turning on the ignition, then turning it off and back on again and waiting for lights to go out. - same as above 3. starting the car with my foot slightly on the gas pedal. - slightly better but over revs on starting, making me look like a ****. 4.running injector cleaner in the tank. (I realise that this doesnt really do much on direct injection engines) - not sure if this has helped yet, dont think so though. I always run 99 RON Super (momentum) and I also tested the battery last week and it was showing 86% health so I dont think its that either. Its not a huge problem (yet) but if anyone has any suggestions then that would be great. BTW, car is 2008 and has covered 38k miles with FSH

Its going to Advanced Automotive over here. They have a hunter set up. I dont know any OU professors

Could be an Injector. My 2008 VRS had to have injector number 4 changed, prior to me buying, it as it ran on 3 cylinders at idle (though it drove fine)

Morning all. Im having new rear tyres fitted next week and then taking the car straight to an alignment specialist to have the new rear settings applied. I found the settings for the rear: Old values : -1°45' ± 30' New values : -1°20' ± 30' but what happens with regards to the front? Also is there any downside to having the new settings on the rear, such as worse handling? my car is a 2008 BTW. Dan

Im getting my alignment done in a fortnights time (once Ive had the rear tyres replaced) My car is a 2008. I found the new settings on here but will my car need this as its a 2008? Also, what happens with regards to front settings? -

Personally I wouldnt go for something that age with that miles. Id prefer an average mileage. At least that way you know its not been sat up all this time. (in reference to the 2500 miler) -

Meadens are selling that car. I doubt a Skoda dealer would be selling a clocked car. It would not do their rep any good! -
I having two Hankook Ventus K110's (18's) fitted to the rear of mine in a few weeks time. Im paying £205 all in fitted for the 2 (but Im in the motor trade and have connections) I stuck with these tyres as this is what is on the front and they seem to be perfectly fine.

"Clunk" sound from rear of car over bumpy roads
octydan replied to octydan's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Good point. Im going to get the suspension links, bushes, top mounts etc. checked just in case it is transferring through the car making it sound like its coming from inside. -

How is the boot adjusted? Are you referring to the black stops that screw outwards? -
Morning all. Im having trouble trying to locate the cause of a slight "clunk/knock" coming from the rear of my car. I tried taking out the spare wheel and tool kit etc aswell as the parcel shelf but the sound is still there. I even tried folding down the rear seats to no avail. Im 90% sure the sound is coming from inside the car as opposed to the rear suspension. Any other suggestions? Dan

Lovely looking car. Fastest colour too. Good luck with sale.

These are pretty cool. I was following one to work this morning, it wasnt hanging around either! Good luck with the sale.

Every time I get into my car the bloody maxidot readout is on MPG. So distracting
-
True, however when I had my MK1 VRS (which was remapped) I averaged 28/29 MPG from mainly short runs. The same runs in my MK2 TFSI average 25MPG. I was expecting the MK2 to be the same or slightly better than my mk1. It doesnt particularly bother me as I enjoy driving but I can see why the OP might ask the question.
