If you do a fair amount of work on your own car and friends cars and have a handful of invoices from local motor factors they should sign you up for a trade card. It is supposed to be a way of getting mechanics from garages, etc away from only using local factors and mobile tool suppliers and getting them into the stores but if someone can prove they spend money regularly by showing the aforementioned invoices you should have no problems getting one... Hope this helps...

All the Halfords brand oil is made by Comma so it's not a bad oil to go for plus all the filters are made by Fram and if you DO have a trade card you'll get the filter for a greatly reduced price but you'll not get much off the oil unfortunately (you'll not get the screwdrivers free either if you use your trade card so if you want them you'll have to pay full whack for the oil unless they've changed the rules since I left)

Getting the right oil for your VW Group motor can be a bit of a nightmare, I used to work for Halfords and whenever there was a query regarding oil for them I used to go on the Castrol website where there's a "Which oil should I use" link which was really helpful! I was under the impression that the deisel specific oil recommended for the diesel engines had a formula designed to reduce the amount of smoke the car produces, the 5w30 longlife/non longlife oil doesn't as it's suitable for petrol engines too. Dunno if this is correct, apologies if I'm talking b@ll@cks.
