I bought one of http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Devices/Huawei/E5573_4G_Mobile_Wi-Fi?memory=0&colour=White from Ebay and stuck a 12GB/year SIM from Three in it. Then took it to France for the holidays and (ab)used their "Feel at Home" offering. Perfect for Pokemon Go abroad for the four of us

We were expecting the worst yesterday (doors locked when driving, etc), but even visiting the McDonalds in Calais did not see us any migrants or trouble. Only saw a single migrant on the motorway near the Tunnel, and other than two Police vans waiting on the Calais entry road, it seemed to me that it is confined to some specific areas (cargo? ferries?) and not so wide spread as the media have us believes it. The queues at Customs however... mayhem!

Home Automation - Anyone got a good system

Yup, got 90% of my house lighting controlled by Fibaro Z-wave dimmer modules, controlled by a Vera Lite. Living room and kitchen have some RGB strips on (again) Fibaro modules and a Hue light behind the TV controlled by a plug-in. Also using a Logitech hub/remote with a plug in, so when I change to the 'watch movie' activity, the living room lighting dims, etc... -

We've got electric gates for our secure residential parking area at home and like you, our maintenance company charges £30 or so for extra/replacement fobs. I ordered one of the cheap clones of ebay and after a struggle to get it programmed, it worked fine (and still does, nearly 2 years on). Few months later I bought another one (same seller, but apparently 'newer' version) and I can not get it programmed. Thinking it may have been faulty, got a replacement, but again, no dice... So 50/50 chance of it working (as long as the code mechanism and frequency matches!)...

I've done 4.5K miles last year in my Westfield, and am on target to at least the same amount of miles this year, so I think I'm qualified to make some comments The car itself will be incredibly fun to drive. Direct steering input, go cart like handling and instant acceleration due to having no weight. You'll feel like Toad doing a round of Mario Karts. However, you are an oddball on the road, a sight people are not accustomed to. As they are waiting at a junction, they will see you, but somehow the brain says "that's no car" and they will pull out on you. Drive it like you would drive a motorcycle; defensively. My advice, go for the quiet times at the weekend and pick some roads that don't particularly go anywhere. But make sure you know where the petrol stations are (my range is 160 miles) at all times -

The jack itself was fine when I received it. Nothing like the things you describe. I would say it is worth the money I paid for it (from them direct on their website). Don't write reviews normally, so this was no exception. Sure it is not nice to send it back (especially as it weighs a tonne!) and be promised something that then doesnt materialise, but the repair was good and I've had my money's worth of use out of it now. If you ask me, would I order one again, then the answer would probably no, I'd go for something more expensive and durable...

I have the same jack, and after very little use it started leaking at the collar. Contacted SGS and they asked me to return it for repair. Took about a week for my jack to be returned and although I didn't get my promised refund of postage, they did repair it satisfactory and it has been fine since.

Andrew at Toybox is a very nice chap and does have some very nice cars usually in stock. Beware though that what he has advertised is often not what he has in stock... But if you let him know your budget and wants/want nots, he'll let you know if it is something he can provide. Of course, you pay 'dealer' prices, but imho he's one of the good guys.

How easy you'll find on how things work is really difficult to say. For me the biggest hurdle is the correct terminilogy. When someone says that the rose joint needs shortening, I would have to google first to see what a rose joint is, and then 2nd, try to identify it on the car. The other way around too, when I needed to replace my rear brakes (drum), I had (wrongly) assumed that my axle was off an Escort Mk2 RS2000. But it isn't. In fact, I still don't know what axle/uprights I have and therefore I can not replace the drums themselves (only really needed to replace the shoes). Every westfield you see will be different. No two the same. With regards to a 'modern' engine, they may still be plumbed in 'old-fashioned'. There is no OBD port to read fault codes on (unless the builder build it). If you do have an ECU, then it may come with a whole raft of different problems (sensors failing, limp mode, god knows). Garages can work on old and new mechanics, the age of the engine really makes no difference whatsoever. Parts for the engine maybe more awkward to find, but then again, there is a whole industry around 'classic' parts... I found my car on Ebay, but the WSCC forums, PH and AT are the obvious other places. There are some other sites, but with a smaller selection. You can verify power on the rolling road. And a little bit by looking what a 'standard' engine puts out. It's just a number though, it only needs to lug 5-600Kg forward
