  1. This morning woke up to find that the aerial on my Fabia has been snapped in half - bent over so that the metal rod has broken. Also my wifes car - VW Passat has suffered the same fate. Reported to the Police but they have already stated it is an undetectable crime. All they can do is issue a Crime reference number! They won't even come out! Any one know how much VW / Skoda charge for replacement? (As an aside anyone have a view on where the car marque badges on eBay are being procured from? The craze of people prising off VW badges at the height of the Beastie Boys springs to mind though that was prior to eBay being available to flog them)
  2. I like the red led feature on the spoiler. Wired it up already Jason?
  3. Wow! you even clean your brake discs? :P
  4. Jason, I have come across the following post on Moneysavingexpert.com before and having read about your wish to get a new PC without a monitor thought you might be interested. The poster claims that a base unit Intel
  5. The current back box on my Fabia 1.4 16v (2000) has corroded and split though surprisingly it is quiet although encountering potholes and speedbumps now causes a knocking or banging. I suspect it is a mild steel cover for the actual functional part of the exhaust backbox. Does anyone know the approx cost of a replacement from Skoda? I don't know any part numbers. I need some new brake pads, possibly some new rear discs and tyres soon as well. Might be due to the cost I will go to a firm like National or ATS and try to negociate a discount.
  6. My car suffers this also. The rear discs were both showing bad rusting at the outer extremes of the disc. It does not shift upon heavy use of the brakes like the rust you see after the car has been stood for a long period. Since changing the standard steel wheels for a set of Alloy wheels, the corrosion has gradually reduced. My car has done over 60K miles. I am not sure if either the discs or pads have ever been changed. All my servicing for the 45K miles was done under the Skoda 3yr / 45k miles free servicing offer. The price of a pair of new discs is a big dis-incentive to replacing but if the MOT fails on this it is a case of do it. Do any of the owners of the affected cars have alloys? I am guessing so if you can easily see the discs.
  7. Sorry state of affairs to see so few British manufacturers represented in the poll! I am assuming Ford Focus is made in UK.
  8. Do you think in the event of a tyre blow out at high speed - ESP and all the electronic gubbins with ABS etc would make things a little more controllable? I'll never forget seeing Top Gear where they had in car footage of a police car spinning after a tyre blowout at speed. Also showed Tiff spinning when first a front then a rear tyre were blown out with a controlled detonation. (Though I wondered if the explosion contributed at all?)
  9. Skoda have on their website http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/yourskoda/Aftersales.aspx a paragraph which details warranty cover. 2 year Unlimited Mileage Warranty, with a third year of warranty valid up to 60,000 miles, as well as a 10 year anti-perforation warranty. Per the VW website for new cars. http://www.vw.co.uk/services/factory_warranty/benefits If your new vehicle is one of the following models: Lupo, Polo Hatch, Golf Hatch and Estate, fresh Beetle, Bora, Passat Saloon and Estate, you are covered by a 12 year Long-term Body Protection Warranty. All other models are covered for a 6 year period. This warranty protects you against the cost of rectifying rust attacking the internal cavities of the bodywork (from the inside out). I used to own a VW polo (G plate 1990). Just before the 6 year period that I think the rust warranty expired, I took my car to the VW dealership to have repairs done to rust apparent around the tailgate hinges on the body. They accepted the repair and the quality of workmanship was great.
  10. Perhaps not a good idea to "publish" your registration number on a public forum like this. The criminal element may be able to make up plates with harvested numbers from the 'net.
  11. Sorry to hear about the resulting damage though!
  12. I've got a Fabia 1.4 16V - mine broke quite badly when I was working on the nearside headlamp and is in danger of falling apart completely! The front trumpet and first part of the pipe that is not my headlamp.
  13. Good Howto Ivan, Did you throw away the old inlet pipe and front trumpet or will you sell em for spares? Ian
  14. I have had the same computer since 1990. However it has had six new processors, three new motherboards and four cases! My PC Started as IBM PS/1 Pro 386sx. Then Pentium-100 with 16Mb ram and 2Gb Disk Then I upgraded with a IDT WinChip C6 240Mhz (Risc Windows compatible cpu) and 32Mb Ram Then Amd K6-366 on TMC M/b 32Mb Ram with 4Gb Disk upgraded to Amd K62-500 and retired with 256 Mb Ram and 20Gb drive. Built new system on a P4 m/b with Intel P4-2.8Ghz with 40Gb and 256Mb ram. Cut my teeth on Sinclair Spectrum 48K. Decided to swap for BBC B due to Elite and the wish for a decent keyboard. Does anyone remember Wordwise +.
  15. Yipee! All done! The adaptors cost half as much as the CD player did :( Not much room to get all that cable in. To create as much room as possible to fit it I temporarily extracted the air vents to provide a little access from above to 'route' the cables away from getting mashed. Also tried removing the little slide in basic tray but found when I had put into place the CD player, the tray wouldn't slide back in. Still it was useful to ensure that the cables were not trapped and a access above and below allowed me to work out the best place for the looms. Took about an hour to fit.
  16. Looks like something the A Team might have built. Shall we call you BA Bengie!
  17. Thanks Rob. I Bought the fascia from Skoda for a couple of notes. I will look at getting the aerial booster though since the problem with the standard 402 radio cassette means I couldn't get radio. I like to listen to Johnny Walker on R2 and get the TA bulletins.
  18. Maplin are doing a promotion this month on a Shark Mp3 CD tuner with RDS for about
  19. I experience the same symptoms you report. Fortunately I have a lpg conversion so I can switch to lpg and the symptoms disappear. Only happens when trying to use Petrol. Do you use the 98 superunleaded as recommended on the petrol flap or do you use 95 unleaded for the saving?
  20. Should do a poll Jason!!! Supplier : Tiscali Speed : 256Kbps Monthly Cost :
