  2. Fitted my 2nd hand Skoda roof bars (picking up a huge roof box tomorrow), also fitted a rear bumper guard to protect/hide some nasty chips and scratches from previous owner's dog. The 'silver' option (of 3, plus black or stainless) is a surprisingly close match to my silver car.
  3. Mine's under Skoda warranty until November 22, so will have a proper think about a remap nearer the time. In the meantime have made a few tweaks and picked up a 2nd hand pedal box on Ebay. Interesting reading some earlier points - the MY20 L&K has leather and digital dash as standard and again that swayed me more toward the Superb, more so than if looking at 2016 to 2019 models. My particular car is 'lucky' depending on your point of view; here in the UK, newer cars above £40k list price attract a £500+ road tax for the first 5 years - mine is missing just enough options (sunroof etc) to dip under that, so costs just £140 ish per year. Most surprising find on my journey to the Superb, was driving a Seat Leon Cupra 300 ST 40 minutes before the Golf R estate - didn't like it at all. The Golf was so much nicer for a number of reasons, mostly cabin/cosmetic but was amazed how different 2 such closely related cars could be.
  4. Despite some answers above, I went through this exact same thought process in the last few months and was down to either Golf R estate or Superb 272/280 hatch or estate - clearly very different but both ticked my must-have (4x4, enough room for family of 4 plus Golden Retriever, THAT engine with a possible stage one remap). Drove both, loved both. Changed my mind a few times - the key points for me in the end were toys/options, space in the rear, likelihood to be nicked (work a fair bit in big cities including overnight parking) and relative value for money - the Superb edged it but probably would have been happy/compromised on either. As it is I have a 25k 2019 L&K 272 for roughly the same prices as would have got me a 2018 Golf with a few more miles. Resale values clearly favour the Golf though.
  5. Yup see last post above yours - that is the same item/seller (tax added at checkout)
  6. Final update - remained in use until I sold the car in November 2021. New owner did a factory reset, configured to his liking and is equally pleased (ignoring the Columbus I also gave him with the car). So the only niggles are minor lag on cold boot, probably 3 inexplicable shut downs mid journey, and Google navigation also exiting from time to time (easily solved by just starting again and selecting last journey). Fabulous value for money and sound quality.
  7. https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0WoHsG £147 including tax and delivery.
  8. When I say "installed", it's literally just plug and play to get up and running in a basic way - plug into USB exactly the same way you would with a phone, then it pops up as a CarPlay device after a few seconds and you're off.
  9. Arrived, installed, sounds good - need some more tweaking time and haven't tested the pass-through Android Auto (wireless) option yet, but initial thoughts are positive.
  10. I'm using it with the 'Connect Lite' Skoda app, not the VW app - the advantage is the VW plug costs a fiver whereas the Skoda branded versions are around £40!
  11. Fitted Nextbase Dashcam and hardwire kit, updated Nav maps, imported 9gb of music to jukebox. Got VW dataplug working yesterday too. One month in, warming to this car.
  12. I've just ordered one (Apple pie mini) so will post some thoughts up once it makes it over here, most likely early Jan.
  13. Congrats on the purchase. I'm south Bristol and was considering flying up to buy it, but the chap selling it was quite difficult to get info out of - not enough confidence to jump on a plane. Found one quite local in the end.
  14. Just wondering if you have the intake and intercooler pipework fitted which Revo recommend, if not the intercooler?
  15. Much procrastination later, a 272 L&K hatch now sits outside. Lots of mind changing along the way and I 'wanted' the Golf slightly more, but a combination of space and like for like value for money in the 2nd hand market led me to the Skoda - I'm sure I'll lose out on residuals in the long term but I'm hoping to keep hold of this for a while.
  16. Might this be the grey one up in Inverness which has just dropped off Autotrader? 👍
  17. Only took me 5 months to spot that 😂 Snowy is doing admirably well I'd say, very minor niggles over what is now 6 years+ ownership - new record for me. Having said that, I've only managed 28k in those 6 years which is a bit pathetic! Will be off in the near future - can't decide between a Golf R estate or Superb 280, but private plate has just come off so I mean business 👍 Hope the Volvo treated you well.
  18. Bumping an old one, as having exactly this dilemma currently. Proper first world problems eh? Interested to know which way the op went in the end?
  19. Volkswizard on YouTube reported this same issue with his mk8 Golf - VW are aware of it apparently, haven't watched any of his videos since.
  20. Short answer is: no, I still do get the issue every now and again. I think I can confidently say I get it 'less' often since following the advice above though, so it's worth a small investment of time I would say. Generally I only get it now if I've had the car running, then need to do some wheel turning at idle speed - whereas prior to messing with the cables I got the issue every now and again during normal driving, which was a bit disconcerting - haven't had that since, and I still only get the issue very infrequently (though the car has only covered 30k in the 6 years I've owned it!)
  21. Thanks both, apologies for the late response - I didn't get any reply notifications for some reason.
  22. Well, a year and a half later this has not got any worse, but I still get the same issue intermittently. Had a week off this week so after finding this thread: I removed the battery, tray, airbox etc. and have cleaned up: 1) Gearbox to chassis ground 2) Battery negative to chassis ground 3) Both positive and negative battery terminal connectors and the terminals themselves Too early to tell if this will have any impact (the gearbox to chassis connection was dirty, but definitely not loose) and a very quick drive following by lots of steering wheel turning could NOT reproduce the fault, but it does seem to just pop up out of no where so is hard to trigger with any reliability. Will update this thread the next time the steering issue happens - so if no update, assume positive news!
  23. View Advert Pagid rear discs and pads - brand new! Bought these about 3 years ago as I thought my rear discs and pads needed changing - garage said plenty of wear left so dumped them in the garage for another time. Now on 103k and needed to replace one rear hub to get rid of an ABS fault, so thought I might as well get the discs/fitted at the same time - only to receive a scornful message from the the garage saying I'd bought the wrong parts and people like me supplying parts make his life a miseray etc etc etc So - mine is a mk2, a quick Google shows the pads are possibly for the mk1 which at least aligns with the label on the pad - but I can't figure out (and hence say with any confidence) what the discs are for. Baffled either way as they would have originally come from Euro Car Parts and would have used my registration number to confirm. Grrr. Anyway, not posting but free to any full freedom member who wants them - collection Bristol BS39 Advertiser Timmyboy Date 29/08/20 Price Category Parts for Sale Shipping Estimate £0
