  1. Thank you, very helpful thread Fubar. I must update my profile as both vRS gone now, I didn't realise the later models were called II facelift (and not mkIII) had the diesel estate for almost a year, bloody good car, sad to see it go but had a change in circumstances and we couldn't justify a nearly new anymore. Still not as fun as petrol version. So wasn't sure on problems of a 6/7 year old used one. Am partial to race blue!
  2. After selling my Mk1 vRS late last year after 4 years good motoring and finding out all the Mk1 foibles I'm thinking of now purchasing a Mk2, can't find a buying guide pinned (lazily I haven't done a search yet) What are the common things to look out for/ fail?
  3. I'm 35, first vRS after a line of hot hatches/performance cars, always preferred bigger cars - the Octavia ticks every box IMO, economic, saloon, doesn't stick out to thieves, not that common, better looking IMO than a Fabia (they're too small) rapid, had it for nearly 4 years now OH just bought a 2012 vRS diesel estate
  4. As long as the replacement is exactly the same - height, number of coils and spring thickness it is perfectly fine - even garages and Skoda dealers do this too, nothing bad will happen use some common sense as to how it all fits together... I've had zero problems and sailed through another MOT since, and believe me I know about handling But as you say each to their own, it's for the individual to decide on their preference
  5. Yeah it's telling me it's not quite right! I did look at the part number on the coil packs, don't the ones that needed replacing end in Y or something? (I'll search the forum and find out) Cheers
  6. lol death trap indeed. I would NEVER have replaced one rear one if that were the case, and please don't think 'you're a woman you know ****' (tyres and brakes always done in pairs) I had one replaced a year and a half ago, with standard replacement one - yes you can get vRS ones from factors, they aren't dealer only and they are proper vRS springs - and it's been absolutely fine
  7. Obviously is common then! Thanks, firstly I'll check the gaps (although prob could do with a new set as these been in about 3 years) then try the hold downs
  8. I'd have said AP Tuning, Lenwade - predominately Evo but remapped our old m2 vRS company car and I know Gary is very mediculous worker www.ap-tuning.co.uk
  9. My vRS is standard, every now and then it runs a bit less than smoothly (still think I need new N75 too) - when take the engine cover off the coil packs need pushing back down - they're not totally off but just don't seem 'clicked down' enough (I'm changing the plugs to see if that makes a difference) Anyone experience this? I couldn't see any numbers on the packs to suggest they are the old ones that were 'recalled' Zoe
  10. I always put Esso Super (is that what it's called now?) or BP ultimate, the queue in Tescos is always too big! lol
  11. Is the recommendation still 4 years on time regardless of mileage? It seemed to differ for a while
  12. Just changed the CTS on mine, darn thing is still running low temps and showing 17704, new thermostat I feel, joy!
  13. looking good! I admit I've not always been much of a Fabia fan, but Jas showed me the pics of yours in the workshop and it looks awesome! I've only been ribbing him to get my Octavia in for a i/c for about 6months - a year! Great project
  14. Yeah I got mixed up - I meant to type I have 17705 and 17704 - already found a split in the 'y' pipe, and the hose from intercooler to turbo wasn't attached properly (apparently the can go in on themselves, the olders ones) - last resort I'm thinking N75 valve, it's seemed to have a lack of low down power for a while - pressure drop 17704 IS cooland temp sensor (temp gauge reading extra low) My code reader has been a god send of late
  15. I bought the slightly cheaper one the U280 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scanner-Reader-SKODA-diagnostic-Fault/dp/B001KSZQNM great tool! Easy to use, I did notice the codes I had come up weren't in the book, but most you can search for on here (mines got 17705 and 17705 - new temp sender ordered) you can clear the codes too - MUCH better than paying £40 + VAT the two times my EML came on and I didn't have a reader I'd recommend, few others on here have one too
  16. I had EML come on the other week, local garage said a turbo pipe was being pushed of, and that they'd secure it back on, EML is on again, so I'm thinking it's time to replace it (and check the other hoses), is this the lower one? Anyone else had to replace this? Anyone have the part number for it (I think a newer one replaces this old one above?) (I'm not clambering under there at work to look! lol)
  17. Thanks guys, I thought as much - yes all I want to do is read them and erase them (obviously after trying to fix/work out if something IS broken, not simply erasing to ignore!) Zoe
  18. Hi all, stupid question any of you have the above scanner tell me whether you need to purchase the USB cable too? (this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/OBD2-OBD-II-Cable-409-1-Skoda/dp/B001C1MNTM/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_img_ Car is lacking power again, hesitant at low revs, I think it's got a split boost hose or N75 dodgy Zoe
  19. Same here, mines 9 years and 142k, cat heat shield been removed
  20. I tried to do my Fiesta bonnet with carbon look wrap, started off ok then the edges went disasterous! Didn't help never used vinyl wrap before either I think it'd smart with black roof
  21. mines the 16v from an RS1800, hope to get some road legal tyres (the 888's I have will be ok for one more track day, but now not enough tread to be road legal!) and tax and get it out of the garage for it's first proper track outing soon. Work hasn't a problem with a tow bar on the estate so dunno why OH wont have one put on!
  22. I use Motul, the first change used VW Specific 504 507 5W30, but I think last time I used Motul Sport 5w-50 will have to check the receipt!
  23. That's strange, I too bought some from my local dealer (Colchester) November time, fitted them the same time gave it a coat of Collinite wax, too early to tell if cause any clear coat damage, but keeps the sides a bit cleaner during this crap weather
  24. :rofl:I want to make it along to a meet this time! This time of year is better as less shows and bloody races to go to! Only trouble is I don't like the vRS getting dirty this time of year if the weather is minging (even though it is a daily driver!)
