  1. This is a new scam from Eastern Europe. They fill the cash machine with gas then ignite it. You can see the gas pipes going into the machine before it blows up. There have been a few attacks like this in Manchester, Birmingham and London. Beware of funny smells when you get your money oot!

  2. Just to put a fly int ointment, I used a canon 40d for a few years and eventually got fed up of lugging a massive bag full of equipment and lenses about. SWMBO authorised a new purchase and after lots of research and a friends recommendation we got a Sony NEX 5n.

Got a good deal too as the newer NEX 5r was due out.

This camera does almost everything that the canon did and still has a full size DSLR sensor shoe horned in. The picture quality is amazing. Of course being a geek I ordered two lenses with the camera but I reckon you could easily get by with the stock zoom lens that comes with the standard package.

  3. I went to phones 4 U to have a look at the mighty Z. It is a hell of a big phone. Almost phablet like in reality. I don't know whether the physical size of the phone would prevent me from using it at work. (Lots of outdoor work where sometimes things can escalate quickly!) I would worry about it getting damaged.

The Z has some sort if intelligent power distribution where it automatically switches power hungry hardware and apps off when it goes into standby. It's supposed to make a real difference to the battery life and you can customise the switch off criteria to your own requirements.

  4. I hate this design so much. I'm actually a fan of Jeep, and used to own a '97 4.0l Grand Cherokee - awesome car for the money I paid for it. Jeep have really dropped the ball with this one though. It's on par with Ssang Yong design, i.e. they haven't.

To think the original Cherokee was the epitome of rugged off road design, and spawned a million copy cats. Why can't they just re-invent the classic design?

  5. There's a massive Sony Press conference taking place at 11pm UK time tonight to announce the PS4. There are loads of rumours and speculation about what's in the box, but the most common ideas are

    Released Xmas 2013

    Under £300

    Not cutting edge processors inside.

Sony have really taken a battering recently so however it stacks up, it's got to be good......

  6. As with everything else, police budgets on fleet vehicles is being reigned in and there's now a national scheme which all forces can choose their vehicles from. They have 25 manufacturers to choose from for specialist vehicles, but common or garden beat cars can only come from 4 major manufacturers, Ford, GM, Hyundai or Peugeot. They come ready prepped with livery, light bars and radio straight from the factory instead of the old method of supplying a white car and each force doing the rest in house.

The Met seem to get a lot more choice than anyone else though.

  7. If the VW UP! GT is released then I will buy one. I doubt the rest of the VAG group will share the spoils of a desirable micro rocket. I really hope Skoda produce a Citigo vRS as that would be my weapon of choice. I imagine the Up GT will be a strictly 3 door. Skoda should do a 5 door version to be different and that's the one I would go for.

  8. I was a club kid between the years of about 1993 to 1999, the golden age of 'super clubs'. We used to drive around the country to sample a good night out.

Cream in Liverpool, Renaisance in Derby, Hard Times in Morely, Back to Basics in Leeds, Sankey's Soap in Manchester, Shindig in Newcastle, Rise, Gatecrasher, Love to Be and Bed in Sheffield, the list goes on and on.

The last big night I went to was Gatecrasher Vs Ministry of Sound at Lotherton Hall in Leeds. Then the millenium came along and spoiled everything, II got a responsible job and the clubbing came to an end.

I've been back to a few clubs for the odd night out here and there but as ever, the good old days were always bigger and better.

I still love hearing new choons on Pete Tong's show but I'm not even tempted to go out til daft oclock in the morning now at my age. Tgings have changed now as well. smaller venues constantly changing and people dont come out til midnight. Late bars and licensing laws killed proper clubbing IMHO.
