  1. I say go for it. There's a reason why the E46 M3 is universally adored by those in the know. It's often prefered to the latest V8 version and viewed as the pinnacle of the M division's engineering prowess.

You'll always regret not pushing yourself to own a car like this if you dont do it. The way I see it, petrol is only gonna get more expensive, and the government is trying its best to prevent ordinary folk owning big engined cars through taxation, so now is the time to dive in!

There's a tax loophole for high CO2 vehicles registered before 23 March 2006. You only pay £260 per year, instead of £435 per year which applies to vehicles registered after this date. (as I found to my cost)

Evo do a basic buying guide here M3 buying guide but there are hundreds of forum pages to digest if you're that way inclined.

I would have had an E46 M3 if they did a touring version. lol

  2. And Victoria Beckham is involved with the interior styling. VOMIT. Horrid, horrid car based on the oily bits of the latest Gaylander and most models are front wheel drive

    Hmmm, Skoda Yeti, anyone?

The car industry has been doing crossover vehicles for decades now. Just because a car doesn't fit an outdated preconception of a certain type doesn't mean it's witchcraft.

The Evoque looks good, the size fits British urban roads, and it's fuel efficient. Even more so in 2WD. A thoroughly modern car. Which is why it'll absolutely fly out of the LR dealerships.

  3. Just been to see this fillum, and it's awesome. Very emotional and very clever how old footage has been edited together with voiceovers to produce a compelling portrait of a great man.

It's not a very good advert for the French however!

  4. It doesn't matter what car you get, the pram and all the baby based paraphernalia just won't fit. I have a 5 month old baby boy and a 3 series estate, and a trip north to see the grand parents is an exercise in efficient stowage.

Prams are ridiculously huge and shiney these days. We went with the sensible (cheap) option of a mamas n papas Pliko Switch and it sprawls all over the boot.

The 1 series is a fine car with no dilution of quality compared to bigger cars in the range. As long as you can pack efficiently, then go for it!

Edit: as for the run flats, I hated them and as they were due for a change, I upgraded to cheaper normal tyres and the ride is now sublime. With the savings, I bought an extra set of alloys off Ebay, to be fitted with winter tyres to allow transport in the 2 weeks of bad weather we have in the winter.

  5. This is an issue close to my heart. I went from very stable full speed cable BB, to Sky's 20MB copper wire service which occasionally kicks out 2meg if I'm lucky.

There are plans to install a 20meg BB network across the whole of South Yorkshire. Digital Region is the idea, however, it has come to an abrupt halt due to the cuts and now will not come anywhere near my little hamlet. Booo!

Why can't we string optical cables up across the existing network of telephone poles? It would save the expense of digging up the roads.

  6. The information section of next years testers manual says, here is a draft of it:

High Intensity Discharge (HID) and LED dipped beam headlamps (whether original fitment or after-market) must be fitted with a headlamp washing system

Just carry an old fairy liquid bottle with some suds in fitted to a drink holder in preparation for giving the lights a squirt every so often. hey presto, headlamp washing system fitted!

  7. i had a titanium x , it was pretty good but the seats were horrendous, way too flat and no support on my lower back , went to scotland and was in bloody pain for lots of it , good car tho

We had an ST 155 estate at work and the seats were heavenly, so much so that fights broke out over who could have the keys. Presumably the ST had better seats than the tit X. It was a commendable vehicle, in the same way as a fab vRS it felt a lot faster then it was. The handling was brilliant, and it didnt seem to suffer from the weekly turbo failures of the previous TDCI 130 that we had before the ST. I also looked into ownership based on the works experience.

  8. I remember WinMob from my old Samsung Omnia phone. Absolutely horrendous platform for any device, never mind a mobile phone. I swore I would never use it again.

WinMob 7 looks pretty slick on the ads but the very idea of it fills me with nausia.

  9. Driven the RS200 right after the vRS a few months ago and loved it. It's in a different league. On a nice road when conditions are right it's fantastic. But a few things put me off. Fuel economy is supposed to be dire. Far worse than the 172's which would regularly get 40mpg being screwed. The one I drove had the cup pack which is good but the harsh ride would eventually annoy me. Not everyday I drive on nice roads. Plus it's only a 3 door which annoyed me no end when I had a Polo. If I get a car with 2 doors it will only have two seats. Wasn't sure how good the roof rack system would be either. The Clio always eggs you on to go faster and my cousin sold his 182 for that reason. He'd either lose his license or end up crashing it.

I was confused. I thought you meant a proper RS200 for a minute there......

  10. When I first got the Beemer I had a load of people asking why on earth I'd bought an automatic estate. They helpfully offered to get me some stringback driving gloves and a matching trilby.

My stock answer was "because it's 300bhp and it'll fit an Ikea wardrobe in the back"

You buy your car for you and your family. Not for anyone else.

  11. Went for a play on the iFlap2 today in the Apple shop. Must say I'm impressed with the extra speediness. It's a noticable difference to the iFlap 1. Almost enough to make me want to trade in. Hmmm, I think I'll wait however, as I can't get more than 2Meg broadband where I live, so isn't worthwhile.

I'm top of the list for iFlap 3 though.

  12. Seriously though, not trying to shooting down the pad2 or anything but can the owners/want to be owners let us naive people know why is it such a must-have item? :|

I have an original iPad 64gb WiFi only. I too did not understand the reasons for owning such a seemingly frivolous piece of tech before I got it. It was the girlfriend who encouraged me to get one. She christened it the iFlap.

I can honestly say that I've used it every day since I bought it. I like it because there's no boot up time, the net is only a swipe away and it's just a very good user experience. If I need to check something quickly, or have a casual hour's browse of the net, it's just quick convenient and easy. The apps for iFlap are coming into their own now. Gaming is immersive and intuitive. Some of the music apps are quite in depth and serious bits of kit. It's amazing what it can do on limited processing power so I imagine the iFlap2 will be even better.

As long as you realise you have to have more substantive hardware in place to carry out more demanding tasks, the Flap just fits in. You'll never really understand how indispensable it becomes til you've lived with one for a month.

  13. Well my mind's made up now. The car went in for a service today, and I casually asked the approved used bloke about nearly new 320d's. I'd have to take on £250 per month for the next four years to buy a car which hasn't got half the trinkets that the 335 has got. I currently don't have any finance payments so its a no brainer really, considering the mileage I do.

Here's to two more years of petrol guzzling fun!

  14. This is unfortunately what the government want - us all to end up in tiny fuel efficient cars! :'( That way they stop us polluting! I will always have a petrol car as a toy, but might have to swap my Octavia to a diesel soon as the fuel consumption is bad and its costing too much to put fuel in

OMG that reply so makes me want to keep the 335 til the oil reserves run dry! Lol

  15. The way I see it is that few true enthusiasts own modern day Audis or BMWs. I don't call myself an enthusiast, even though I live and breathe cars. An enthusiast to me is someone who goes the extra mile and modifies, repairs, restores or collects cars. If someone merely drives a car to and from work, can they really call themselves an enthusiast?

I would like to count meself as an enthusiast even though I own a BMW. The Mk 1 vRS was the first rapid car I owned, which led me on to a Mazda 6 MPS, Mazda MX-5 , Classic Jeep Grand Cherokee, and finally BMW.

You could argue that a 3 series touring isn't exactly owt special compared to an original 635i, an 850 coupe, or a Z8, but in modern times what idiot decides to hoon around in a small family estate with a rorty twin turbo 3 litre straight 6 petrol?

Cars like this will soon be a thing of the past. BMW have committed to FWD for their future small cars, and RWD seems to be like worshiping the devil for the vast majority of motor manufacturers.

For this reason, for 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, for 25MPG, and for 99RON I declare myself an enthusiast!
