  1. Thanks for all the advise guys, wow what a great forum appreciate the advice, but ???? Confused.com :-) Maybe a mint mk1 vrs again as my old one was faultless? Or re map on my 130bhp PD again been faultless, better the devil you know and all that! Thanks again.
  2. Sorry meant 45 miles in total, petrol maybe? :-) What's worse case scenario regarding the DPF can it cause a fail, breakdown etc, sorry all bit confusing to me!
  3. Thanks for reply, what would you say is a decent mileage for one, I would be doing approx 45 miles a day to work and back all motorway?
  4. Mk1 VRS Enjoyed every minute of ownership, now on a mk1 Tdi 130bhp due to work mileage, faultless and good turn of speed. Now in a position to purchase a Mk2 VRS diesel, thing is can only stretch to a PD engine at moment. My question is are PD's really that bad? been reading lots on here and other articles regarding particulate filter issues? Now so confused, should I keep saving and wait for a CR? Any tips would be much appreciated I.e. what goes wrong, costs etc? Apologies if I'm posting in wrong area, solo confused! Thankyou
  5. Saw a 2003 Octy 1 1.9sdi on autotader with 380000. Friend at work has a 2000 Bora 115 tdi 226000, no big jobs. Out of interest I had look over the net and found a guy in California with a 86 Jetta 1.6tdi with 536000 still all original and no rust funnily enough! He won a new v10 tdi Tourag for a years use from VW. still got way to go on my 2004 1.9 tdi octy with 82k :-)Or how about 1962 beetle with 1 million miles all original, Think that guy deserves a medal I would'nt want to do a trip down to the shop it one of them!!
  6. Any one any tips on servicing the mk1 octy tdi 130bhp, mainly are the under and over tray covers easy to remove? how important is it to torque up the oil filter cap or is hand tight sufficient? All in all how easy or hard will it be with a haynes manual, I used to play about with motors loads but that was many years ago but fancy saving a few quid and giving it a go, with help from euro car parts of course! thanks
  7. I feel honoured now although I really wanted an elegance because of the centre armrest!
  8. Ha Ha are they that rare then? Well im in Southampton and just seen one identical on auto trader in Portsmouth! Must be a hampshire thing!
  9. Thanks guys. my car does'nt have climate control just standard heater controls and air con not sure if this makes a difference perhaps I will check if I have the fan control blowing on low setting. certainly dont have air con on from cold start never really think about it.
  10. I have a mk 1 octavia 1.9tdi 130bhp, starts and drives as it should. Recently noticed that temp gauge is taking lot longer to get up to temp, although when there sits where it should and stay s there. Noticed recently that when I start engine from cold the cooling fans are running and have never noticed this before im guessing they are running permanently also although unable to hear them which is normal! Could this be some form of temp sender? Is it easy to chang if it is of course, with a haynes manual? Cheers, appreciate any advise
  11. Hi Guys and girls would like some advise in suspension issues. Not my Vrs but my mk 1 octy 1.9tdi 130bhp with 76k 2004. Whilst driving over bumpy back roads getting a knocking from front end whilst hitting bumps sounds more near side. Not that technically minded and will obviously get it checked professionally but does it sound like shot dampers or bushes or more sisister? appreciate it will be guessing game from your point of view but wondered if octys are known for eating bushes or the like? had new MOT 1 month ago maybe I will have some come back. The car is perfect on motorways or a roads its just issue on our quality inner city roads. Thanks for reading.
  12. Hi guys would like some advise, apologies if this has been answered before but im a little confused. I purchased my mk1 octy vrs about a year and half ago from main dealer with 59k as part of deal I asked for cam belt and water pump to be changed. However I recently found out that they only did the belt and as for come back they dont want to know. Would I be correct in thinking that being that my car is an 05 plate it will already have an upgraded pump supplied in manufacture? If not and being that it has now covered 67k I should get the pump done asap and obviously yet another belt, im guessing this wont make difference to price just belt cost? Would this be a metal impeler pump now ? And lastly anyone know of a good independent specialist in the south hampshire area, I have read good things regarding JKM Portsmouth, any advise greatly received. Does the pump just go without warning and wreck engine or should I risk it and look out for warning if worst happens? Thanks
  13. Hi after many miles of prodding and poking at dashvoard and trim I have finally found the answer to an annoying intermittant rattle from car interior. turns out to be the hanbrake release button! now obviously i can not drive around holding onto it although probably easier. Any body else had and rectified this? or does anybody know best way to fix or even how to remove handbrake cover? Any advise greatly received.
  14. Hi guys I have a friend with a Seat Altea 54 plate, his drivers elec window is slow in operation and on closing is occasionally getting stuck half way. There is a sound almost like a plastic ruffling noise. My question is do modern cars still have a plastic membrane over the inner door and has any one had experience of this becoming loose and getting stuck in mechanism? Or can you suggest other? Thanks
  15. Just purchased a golf tdi estate 96 p as a work horse for work on my house, dont want to get my octy dirty! Thing is when ignition is on wipers are on despite stalk in the off position turn ignition off wipers stop what ever position they are on screen! Rear wiper operates as well. Currently have just removed fuse and if rain occurs fuse back in! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  16. No wear or rust seems just dirt, cheers for advise guess i know what im doing tmrw:thumbup:
  17. Hi people I am currently suffering from front brake squael on my mk 1 octy vrs. have tried spraying brake cleaner and jet wash which helped for one day! At recent service Skoda confirmed thay were just dirty and needed a strip and clean but wanted £135 to do this!! I have changed discs and pads on different cars in past could anyone tell me what could possibly be different on the octy different tools etc or is it straight forward hours work? Also any recommended cleaners and guess i need to re grease after? Cheers
  18. Cheers for your advise guy's much appreciated. Look,s like im going the independent route from now on, speaking of which anyone know a reputable independent in South Hampshire?
  19. Fortunately the pump is till fine and the car good. Like you say sure there are plenty of VAG 20VT around with original pump, guess for me the sensible thing would be to start saving and get the lot done prior to warranty expiring. One other thing would I be right in thinking that a dealer would replace with the plastic original item? therefore making the independent route with upgraded pump the favourable way to go? Cheers
  20. Just wondering if anyone has experience of Winchester Skoda? Purchased a 05 octavia 1 vrs back in Feb with 59k prior to collection requested the sensible thing of new belt and water pump. No problem on collection, "all done said the dealer" however I have since been back for small warranty repair and learnt that, no the pump was not replaced just the belt as apparently the pump was tip top!!:rotz: My annoyance is that I have written to the dealer principal who informs me that replacement of the pump is not a requirement as far as Skoda are concered, and that as I have an extended warranty until 02/10 I would be no better off having it done! Unfortunately I obtained nothing in writing prior to collection so stuck on that route. Any ideas anyone? Also with now being faced with another three hour job to do pump can the same belt be placed back on?
  21. Any ideas? brake squeal low speed braking just nearside front, discs and pads in good nick.
  22. What other work s involved for inspection? Or is the clue in the title. Also will it say in handbook how to reset using stalk or am I being really stupido now!!
  23. Sorry for just jumping in but have got similiar dilemma with my mk 1 vrs its been on variable as it was company car. last serviced 49k now on 61k I now do little anual miles so guess would pay me to go to fixed also the oil is looking little grubby. Had no service warning. Whats involved with going back to fixed would it need to go main dealer or can independent cope with comp settings? Cheers
  24. Hi few questions in relation to my mk 1 octavia vrs. Purchased car from main dealer ex company car with 59k, car seems to be on variable servicing and as such was serviced at 19k 29k 39k 49k, she is now on 61k dealer said that a service would not be due until Nov or if light came on? Cant help notice that the oil is looking a little dirty. what oil should I use if I want to change it myself, fully synthetic or semi and is this dependant on what it has been given so far? will this affect service lights? Or should I just get it serviced on fixed intervals as my annual mileage is now very low? Thanks
  25. No dash light's, what's involved with cold reboot? Also spoke to Skoda who are ? a coolant temp sender unit. They said about getting in for diagnostic check but it's been fine since.
