  2. Gotcha! thanks again:) sent a pm to Groupvrs1 also about a conversion to SMF and G60 flywheel after reading another thread on here. seems to be a popular change up for the clutch and from what i can tell a better value route to go with it. so be interesting to see what he has to say!
  3. According to @kentphil1 info above the EVS and EHA are both 108mm. What do the ratios refer to about each gear?? Ill give it a google
  4. Thanks a mil for looking that up for me Phil. So going by that info the EVS code and the EHA are practically identical, slight difference in ratios in 4th and 5th gear. Both have 108mm shaft size so it would be ok What do the ratios actually refer to. Is it gear sizes? Sorry no experience with this... Another guy closer to home said he also has a box would do, will find out what code it is. Theres couple of vids on youtube of remove and replace the clutch, both on VW, will look on here for a guide also
  5. I took mine out and cleaned em up and worked great for about 2 weeks. picked unit up at breakers for 20euro...all good since then. careful removing the scuttle panel specially in this cold weather, often break easily. I used a bendy butter knife and gently pried it away from windscreen. ive heard some folks have cracked their windscreens doing this aswel. Just take your time and its handy. good time to clean all the crud and leaves out from behind their too and change the pollen filter if you want
  6. Have a guy with a box said it would fit mine He said its an EVS code mk4 platform 1.8t box That sound like right box? Also said he bought it from guy who said was a known good box and its 50 smackers which is good value in ireland
  7. Any idea if any other octavia model box would fit my mk1 vrs? Or equally would a say mk iv golf/gti/r32 box fit?? Would the part numbers be the same across the vag cars, would be the handiest way of checking i reckon... When you ask ths fella at the breakers will something fit surprisingly the answer is ALWAYS yes:)
  8. Yes. Tried that. Still wont budge. Skoda saying 5 to 10 working days
  9. Hi Mg father has a 07 1.9 tdi octy. The ignitionbarrel was getting a bit stiff and the other morning he started engine but key wouldnt turn off again and is now firmly stuck in ignition Skoda quoting about 500 euro for sorting it Is there anything i can try even to get the key out? So i get panels off and access to the ignition. Also is there a way to start engine again if i need to get to a garage? Thanks
  10. Glad fo hear you had some luck. As regarding getting the door card off, like i waz saying above, it can be done without causing damage beyond a couple of 39pence plastic clips in the doorcard. Mine was same az yours and as you cant open the door you only get access to some of the torx screws, not all. But you still get the doorcard off this way, and then you have access to the lock, which can be broken open and you continue az i said above. It was tricky tho and x frustrating and awkward so glad you were lucky enough to be able to unlock the door Mine was completely dead locked and i had tried all kinds to open it to no avail! Iirc i picked up a lock at the breakers yard and replaced
  11. Curious myself. Only way i could was as i said above... Maybe another way!?!?
  12. The whole lock unit. No worries, havent really tried much with the wiring. just picked up another switch at a breakers to rule that out. actually the backlight on the lights on/off button itself is flickering on and off now aswel with a tap or two. that has only really been happening the last year i reckon. maybe same issue!? No experience with auto electric stuff or any leccy stuff really im afraid
  13. tempermental little gits arent they. I wasnt gonna bother posting but it always annoys me when i drive someone elses car and i can play with the lights
  14. Nope, never has either. did replace the door lock few years back
  15. Not the urgent of problems but its kind of frustrating and having just replaced both headlight units its on my mind again... the beam adjuster switch on the dash never worked in the car. i had taken out the little motors on mine and fiddled with them and checked to se if the motors were jammed which they werent. ended up just putting up with it not working as it passed NCT anyway Now ive just replaced both the units and guy I got them off said his adjusters worked fine. Again theyre not working in mine...checked all the fuses on side panel and all good. I always wondered could the aftermarket alarm that was put it have affected the wiring some way?? Also in my Da's 1.9 tdi if you leave lights on you get a bong to remind you to turn em off. Ive also never had this bonger noise?? As i said its not the most urgent or important issue to have but if anyone has had similar and found a fix would appreciate a few pointers thanks
  16. as i thought. Guy was under my car recently and asked me if i changed them cus they were upside down!? kinda surprised me
  17. my back door dead locked. there is some threads with help on it. basically i removed all the torx screws around the door card i had access to. then iirc i forced the door card off.can cause damage but think mostly it will just break a couple of the cheap to replace plastic clips inside the door card so some spares before you start is a good idea. then i had to brake the plastic cover off the lock mech...until i had room to get my fingers inside. once i could i had to fiddle around until i manually moved the mechanism that opens your door sounds like mission impossible...did cost me some skin a few times aswell but you feel like McGuyver when you get it open good while ago i did it so would wait for another reply or 2 to confirm this or try find the threads with more detail on the process. defo been done but a bunch of members on here i reckon best of luck
  18. just a quick question...is it possible to fit drop links on a mk1 vrs hatchback upside down??? i didnt think it was TIA
  19. Just a quick update as im on way down the countryside here and little or no coverage... Car was in garage couple weeks back and guy said he bled clutch again (told him i had also) and made no difference. He reckoned felt like pressure plate problem Since leaving there its gotten progressively better. Gone from struggling to get 3rd gear bout 75% the time to hardly ever have problem now. I try and be gentle with her best i can Cars due NCT next few weeks and i know there area good few things need sorting. Bushes, think wheel bearings, couple new tyres, the list goes on:( The kids regularly say "Da, u need a new car" cheeky sods they dont appreciate old classics! Anyway, for now shes holding together
  20. Sounds like a job well done and glad you got a result mate. Just to clarify you replaced the cam cover gasket and the one under the tensioner assembly. Is that all needs doing? Any tips or points of note removing and replacing the cam shaft/caps or fairly straightforward?? Did you have a 'practise run' on the other engine first
  21. Is it possible to say manually move the gear selectors on top of the box and go thru the gears a number of times to see if it still struggles with 3rd and then if it's fine there I would know the problem comes from the cables or something on that end of things?
  22. When at rest it does sit between 3rd and 4th What am looking for while someone else shifting gears? Can I check on the bias spring you mention?? Have it booked in with another guy for Monday morning. Was having a look at the linkage on gearbox and thought I'd unbolt the slave to see was it leaking inside. As I backed off the 2 bolts it felt like the slave was pushing itself out, like it was on a spring inside...does that make sense or sound right? At the time I lost my bottle and just tightened the bolts back in as I thought I mite not be able to get it back in,as in hold it in and get bolts back on while it's pushing back out and not much room there as I hadn't moved anything else out the way.i didn't expect it to be pushing itself out like that:) You've been great help so far fellas, thanks
  23. I think your right.impression i got was they didnt check whole lot.just figured lets change clutch Another local place i can contact and see what he reckons. Im no expert but as you say why does it find 1st,2nd,5th no problem.mainly 3rd the problem and sometimes 4th Will see what 2nd guy thinks...but frustrating this
  24. Think it's similar to this one Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263056593789
  25. Lol 'ouch' pretty much how the phone call felt. Cars been really good to me for many years now so can't complain too much. If anyone has it handy could they post a link to a clutch coversion kit that is popular.was looking at a Valid one and Sachs, similar prices but there are lot of different ones doing the rounds. Just curious to see is there one folks recommend Will get searching on the forums when I have a few mins Thanks
