  1. Left car in with local garage this morning for an hour or so.he just rang back saying clutch needs to be replaced and they won't know till after clutch replaced but possible damage to gearbox also. Would I not have had clutch starting to slip or other signs or does that sound feesable I have only read small bit so far about the conversion kits but when I mention this to the guy this morning he say they don't recommend Quoted me 300 for the clutch kit (DMF) and 150 labour Is a second hand gearbox an option or is it pointless as mite be in bad shape itself?? What you guys think, would you be happy to go with that assesment???
  2. Have watched some of his vids including one where he drills the hole for access.makes sense and saves lot of extra work if u dont have a ramp handy. Saw the price too wow.what a rip. Dealer wont even sell the bushes seperate...usual rubbish. Gonna get fella to have a look for me see what he thinks but reckon the bushes mite be a good place to start!
  3. @octyal thanks.looks like level is good If you were replacing the linkage cables is it possible to gain the access needed inside the car from above or does it require moving exhaust and being underneath car. I thought in this pic looked like No.15 three locking nuts when removed mite give access to the cables. Actually looking again now,not so confident, sorry Will try find a video on it and post
  4. Yep. Clutch feels fine and no slipping anywhere thru the revs Just bringing it to a fella this morning for a quick look. Will have a chat with him then and see. Newcables n bushes sounds lot better then box out job:) will post when i know bit more Thanks Al
  5. Yes.Got the oil from skoda dealer and rechecked the level.spot on. There a lot of play in stick so think i mite invest in the bushes Just about to check the linkage end now and was going to pop out the slave to see if its not leaking everywhere inside. At the moment while driving 1st,2nd,5th are reliable.reverse noisey going in but 4th is bad trying to select and 3rd refuses to go in most of the time Local garage said theyd investigate in the morning so if i cant find anything obvious think ill leave it with them 2morrow. Was looking at conversion kits, big variation in prices as always but not too bad.She does have 180kmiles so allowed the odd sick day i guess Cheers for the input
  6. will have a go at getting it out. Apart from just feeling for play in them i havent checked like you say but can get someone here to do the honours Thanks for suggestions
  7. Just checked the level in the box and the car is fairly level Soon as i inscrewed the filler screw it started to dribble out so level seems fine. Was thinking of checking the slave while i was at the linkage Do you know can i just undo the 2 13mm bolts on the slave to pop it out for inspection without having to undo or disconnect any hydraulic feed lines? Dont want to start getting air in lines aswel...:)
  8. Gonna check level again.probably gonna bring to garage 2morow as it's getting worse and I fear doing damage
  9. a start anyway, lots of other links on this vid that mite be useful
  10. @kentphil1 yeah was interesting that. I pulled back the gaitor for a quick look and couldn't believe all the gunge on mine. Think having worked on a golfcourse, over the years I brought a lot of crud and sand and dirt into the car.was a fair bit in there too. Guy in garage the on Saturday asked me about the gearoil. Told him I changed few weeks back.but thinking about it the front of car as on home made ramps so filling back up wasn't level. Mite get the garage to check the level for me on their ramp as at least it will be level.it drained about 1.3litres and only took 1.7litres Haynes says should be 2.2lts As for a video or pics I'll have a look on you tube. Always tends to be a mkiv platform video there on most topics so will try find a bushes replace one on the gear stick setup
  11. @kentphil1 tried the reset linkage bout 5weeks back. Mite go again as need to inspect again anyway. Thanks as always @trainautos watched your tube videos and I have way more play in shift stick, forward/back and considerably more sideways. Will have close look at the bushes in the pic you attached. Appreciate your input How did you resolve your issue in the end?
  12. Took for a spin Still really struggling to find the occaaional gear. Mostly 1st 3rd and reverse anything i can try myself before taking to someone?
  13. Thanks for reply Is it possible to lube up the pivot again? After bleeding the clutch feels the same but will take for a spin and see how the gear change goes. was fairly bad last nite. had a quick look around the pedal before and all looked dry and healthy. will check it again. Saw a vid just now on a Civic tho and the guy had similar creaking noise. he popped off the slave cylinder and stuffed some white lithium grease onto the pivot/ball just inside the bell housing really sounds like its coming from the housing in mine will post back after a drive and another look see
  14. Had a go at bleeding the slave as gear changing getting little bit worse After first pump and opening bleed nipple did see some bubbles in the line but repeated this about 6 times and had solid flow of fluid 2 things i noticed... 1 the level in resevoir didnt seem to lower And 2 as the clutch pedal reaches the floor theres a creaking noise coming from gearbox area. Doesnt sound good to me:( any suggestions? Or is it time to call by the garage??
  15. @KenONeill thanks for that. Watched a couple of vids on it now so know what you mean
  16. @KenONeill sure do mate. Was havin a laugh. But have watched a few vids on timing belts and do agree its defo ajob for a garage.if your lucky you can borrow one for a day but most of us are driveway diy'ers so i know im gonna have to pay to get my belt done shortly as much as id love to help someone who knows they're stuff so i could learn
  17. Doh double post. Can someone remove please:)

  22. The OP is asking about his wheels i think. Not looking for grammar lessons
  23. Thanks for that. Have an OBD gadget so will clear and see
  24. Just curious,is it always necessary to clear codes manually or if you remedy a problem willthe codes clear over time/miles for example i just changed an O2 sensor. Think i read the code would clear itself shortly,or should i clear it after replacing the part thanks
