  1. I love it when people present opinions as fact. My 20 year old Lexis LS400 never had a rattle or squeak in ten years of ownership. Fact. My 6 year old Audi A4 Avant has never had a rattle or a squeak. Also a fact. If either made a noise I would know because I'm sensitive to such things and they would drive me nuts.
  2. I don't understand why motoring groups and others aren't fighting the "luxury car tax" tooth and nail. The threshold hasn't increased in the 5 years since it was introduced and it now catches many pretty mainstream, ordinary cars. It's a blatant ripoff
  3. Thanks for that. I always get the nomenclature mixed up. I have an Audi A4 with the TFSi engine and that is the latest generation, and I assumed it is the same engine Thanks for the replies, everyone
  4. In future years so many perfectly good cars are likely to head for the scrapyard due to failed electronics
  5. Thanks for that. I always get the nomenclature mixed up. I have an Audi A4 with the TFSi engine and that is the latest generation, and I assumed it is the same engine
  6. I'm considering a TFSi 190 Superb Sportline. Can anyone advise whether the Sportline has stiffer suspension. Also what the ride comfort is like in general? Also< I have this engine in my Audi A4 Avant, what realistic fuel consumption could I expect in the Superb? Thanks in advance
  7. I'm thinking about a Kamiq for my wife. Reviews have stated that the Kamiq does not offer a significantly higher driving position, but for someone with occasional back problems, is the seat any higher than, say, a new VW Polo (the other car I'm considering), to make entry/exit a little easier? I haven't been able to see both cars in the same location to compare. Second question, is the 95ps engine a little sluggish, and is it worth going for the 110/115ps engine? I'd appreciate any feedback
  8. It's not applicable in this case, but clutches are only covered for six months under a new Skoda warranty, other brands have a similar approach. It's shocking, in my opinion.
  9. Thank you, don't want anything deducted when we trade it in

    Keys?

My wife's 2017 Citigo has two keys, only one of which is a remote control key. Can anyone advise whether this is normal, or should there be two remote control keys?
  11. For anyone interested in this, I used a 144 i.d copper crush washer from Eurocarparts - cost 69p instead of the £3.50 aluminium washer from the main dealers. It seems to be working perfectly. Link...https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/sump-plug-washer-single-14-00-x-20-00-x-2-00-333771251 It doesn't seem like much of a saving, but I hate buying anything with a ridiculously inflated price. They probably cost main dealers pennies. Savings across the board for my service, using Mann filters, NGK spark plugs and Millers fully synthetic long life oil consisted of a total servicing cost of £65, against the £300 - £319 the main dealers wanted.
  12. Definitely worth shopping around. Sometimes it's about how much profit dealers have in the car you are looking, what they have in stock already, where they are with targets etc. A lot of variables, which can affect what you are offered. A free private ad, e.g. on Facebook Marketplace might be worth a shot but selling privately has its pitfalls, timewasters, security of payments etc, plus you're unlikely to get much, if any, of a cash discount for having no part exchange. Overall, cars are priced high at the moment as there's a shortage of used cars. WBAC have offered me £5K for a 2017 Citigo with 27000 miles. It's a sellers' market so you should get more for yours but will pay more for what you are buying (this is compared to 18 months or so ago)
  13. That would work, but my magnetic tool makes it easier to withdraw the old plugs, I would say
  14. I serviced my wife's Citigo today, very satisfying because the dealers wanted £300 and it ended u costing around £65.00 in total. I did a mechanical apprenticeship many years ago but I'm a bit ring rusty working on cars, having had other priorities until very recently. I'm not used to working on modern cars so did a bit of research and asked a few questions on this forum, a couple of which were answered. I used Mann filters, having got the codes from the Mann Europe catalogue, as they seem to be well regarded. They looked identical to the VW filters I removed. The pollen filter was black through, the air filter looked pretty good, but all were replaced. The oil change and filters were easy, although for a few seconds I thought the oil filter was going to fight to the death before being removed. A chain wrench and a ring spanner for leverage got it moving. This was a relief because I've used the screwdriver and hammer method of removal before, but it creates some wicked sharp edges. My biggest worry was the spark plugs, and if I'm right the replacement intervals are 4 years. This is a 2017 car so I expected problems, based on the experiences of some others on this forum. However, they came out very easily. The coil packs came out by hand, no need for even tie wraps. There were traces of grease on the ceramic part of the plugs so that clearly works wonders for ease of removal. The plugs themselves were in a bit of a state and definitely ready for changing. The spark plugs are quite deep and I did not have a magnetic 16mm plug socket, but I do have a magnetic rod with a light on the end, bought for a couple of pounds from Ebay, which I think is even better, for removal and replacement of the plugs. the magnetic tip is just strong enough to allow the plugs to be tightened a few threads with the lightest of touch, which is necessary to avoid stripping the threads. If anyone is reluctant to service their cars because of the issues some people have had, i would say go for it. A charge of £300 for what I did today is ridiculous. ( I do have an inspection pit, which made a big difference , especially with changing the oil filter though. If you do your own, I would recommend some latex gloves, because used engine oil is a known carcinogen.
  15. That's what the dealer reckoned. I've checked mine and it's steel.
  16. My new spark plugs are on the way so I need to buy a suitable long socket spanner. Can anyone please confirm the size is 16mm?
  17. I've been in touch with a different dealer, who was a lot more helpful. Apparently some sump plugs are alloy, some are steel, which makes more sense, although why you would make something that takes a spanner from alloy defeats me. I'll get a magnet on it later and if it's alloy I'll replace the plug, if it's steel I'll find a crushable washer that fits.
  18. It's on fixed intervals, and was serviced at the main dealer last year as it was still in warranty. I'm not sure an aftermarket sump plug will be better than the OEM plug fitted when new, so I'd planned only to change the seal. I've never changed the sump plug on any car before, are the Citigo ones made of soft metal or something?
  19. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it. I don't really understand why a sump plug, which has been undone twice so far at the most, should be replaced. Are they made of chocolate? Never known it before and I've done oil changes on many of my cars
  20. Can anyone please advise the dimensions of the sump plug washer for my 2017 Citigo? I have found the part number, which I thinks N0138157 but hits on google come back with different sizes for the washer. I need the internal diameter and material if possible. I've always used copper washer in the past (crushable, which seem good. I don't want to use the main dealer because it's a bit of a trek, but also don't want to pay £3.50 for something that should cost pennies. On the other hand is it worth changing the sump plug as well ( not something I've ever done before with any car). The tightwads don't even include a sump washer with a new plug I notice.
  21. I usually do my own research and ask on forums as a last resort but I need some advice on servicing my wife's Citigo which I plan to do myself: 1. Can anyone advise what spark plugs fit a 2017 Citigo, and are they available only from main dealers? 2. I'm trying to source 5W/30 , VW 502.00 or 504.00 oil, but I'm not finding it that easy to find the right spec. Can anyone recommend a good oil please 3. Are Bosch filters as good as original spec> i.e. air, oil and pollen filters? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.
  22. Gas fitters/plumbers take the prize for being greedy bar stewards. They think they are better than the other trades and worthy of £100k p.a. plus. And many are just parts fitters with no idea how to diagnose a fault
  23. Can anyone please advise whether an OEM boot liner for an Octavia mk 2 Hatchback will also fit a mk 3 hatchback? Thanks in advance
