  1. Job done by local aircon specialist. £480 all in, new Compressor, system flushed and recharged etc with 12 month warranty. Got a bit of a discount due to my brother being in the motortrade, still more money than I wanted to spend at the moment though. New drier not required as failure was electrical and not mechanical, this guy told me he is currently doing 15 - 20 of these a month across the VAG range.
  2. Compressor on my 56 VRS has failed , had a leak check and regas 2 weeks ago but already gone luke warm again with all sorts of gurgling noises from the centre of the dash. Had a local AC specialist diagnose it this time and check fault codes etc. Now waiting on a quote for repair. :S By the looks of some of the posts on here, better start saving or is it worth considering purchasing a warranty?
  3. Hi, there I haven't noticed anything like that on mine as yet, but would agree that modern paint is very thin and nowhere near as robust to stone chips as older paint, all part of environmental improvements, both in the fumes etc from the paint and also vehicle weight reduction. My 56 plate is in the the bodyshop today to have a corrosion warranty repair. It is on the drivers side just in front of the rear wheel (under the plastic protector) I suspect if it had been anywhere else i.e not under the plastic then it would have been deemed a stone chip and not covered. The dealer told me whilst doing the claim that he didn't think Skoda would cover it, but then came back 2 weeks later and said it had been approved. Paint / corrosion warranties are generally the most difficult to get sorted as its very easy for the manufacturer to blame lack of care etc even if it is a factory defect.
  4. Fault code on mine, is P0642 see seperate thread. Checked with dealer on the coil pack and they knew of the problem, but advise me mine is unaffected. cheers
  5. Hi, Thanks for that, I'll wait and see if the light comes back on, which I guess it will if what you suggest is the fault. Do you know would that have any other side effects? I'm not sure if it runs a bit rough when cold. (never sure if its in your head when a light comes on) My brother is a Mech, but not on VAG stuff so he can probably replace it, or is it a dealers only job (does it need calibrating or something to the ECU?) Its a shame your so far away from me, as everyone on Briskoda swears by you. cheers
  6. Hi, Car 56 plate Petrol VRS 32K FSSH. Engine light came on last night and also this morning on the journey to work. Light went out when I started car so I could take it to garage down road at lunch, code read as per title. Code has been cleared and EML is still off, so will see how we go over the next few days. Any ideas on this, anyone had this fault come up before. thanks
  7. I'll second that, my wheel badges arrived yesterday put them on last night. Cheers Cliff - excellent service and quality, same as last time
  8. Hi, did it kick up warning light when it started running bad? My 56 plate put the engine light on last night :( , handbook says emmisions, but if a coil has started to play up I guess that will screw up the emissions as unburnt fuel will go into the exhaust. Seems to run reasonably smooth, no obvious misfire or anything, but I think its gone into limp mode as its lacking power Getting the code read today. Will also ring local dealer to check on this recall, would be handy if it is a coil pack and not something else. Fingers crossed it not anything to expensive.
  9. Hi I've just bought privately (6 weeks ago) a 56 plate Petrol Vrs hatch for 7300 with 30K. Race Blue, 18's, Xenons, Dual /Jumbo, Front and Rear PDC, SAT NAV, Maxi, Auto lights, mirror and wipers. Just serviced and new tyres all round. Spent 6 months looking before I found it. That seemed a good price compared to what else was out there and hopefully with the spec I wont have a problem when I come to sell it in a few years time. There was so much stuff listed on Autotrader that had been there for months, but not suprising as the trade wanted 2K more for same age and mileage.
  10. I noticed that that on mine as well - 56 plate. bit weird I think.
  11. Hi, I had the 17" zeniths on my Mk1 done last year at Lepsons in Swindon, initally quoted me at £55 per wheel plus VAT for full treatment as above if I dropped the wheels to them. I haggled a bit and said I could get it done cheaper at WheelRefurbing.com and they dropped it to the trade price of £45 per wheel plus VAT which gave me an all in price of £211 (bit more now due to VAT rise) I also got them to fit 2 new tyres that I bought from Camskill, so all in all a pretty good deal I think. I was very impressed with the work, one wheel had quite a bit of damage (scraps and a dent in the rim) when I took them in, couldnt tell which one it was when i picked them up. might be worth pushing for a better price, probably depends how busy they are. cheers
  12. thanks for the confirmation, shame that. cheers
  13. Hi all, I have recently upgrade from Mk1 VRS to a 56 plate Mk2 which has SAT NAV and Maxi dot etc. Audio is massive improvement on Mk1 which i thought was very poor so I changed it to an aftermarket head unit which also played MP3 discs. Does the Nexus unit support MP3 discs?, cant see anything in the manual and have tried in both the changer and the slot on the head unit itself but it doesn't read the discs, so I'm guessing its a No. Just thought I'd double check incase the files on the disc had to be a specific format or something. cheers Stewart
  14. I've just done exactly this upgrade, Black Mk1 02 for 41/2 years and bought 56plate petrol Vrs 1 week ago. Haven't really had chance to try out performance yet, but have to say the MkII is a much more refined car overall. Still see the Mk1 everyday as I sold to to someone at work. I think the Mk1 is always going to be more of a 'cult' skoda car in the eyes of the VW boys and is definately more suited too it, the MKII is more grown up IMHO.. Go for the upgrade, I dont think you will be dissapointed, for me always petrol over diesel unless your doing at least 15-20K per year.
  15. Hi, there been to have a look at this Silver VRS hatch today at a dealer, bit uncertain about its history so thought I'd ask on here if any one is a previous owner, there have been 3. Car did 27K in first 8 months with first service at Awesome, currently showing 50K. Any info appreciated, please PM if anything dubious as I dont want to cause any upset to any owner, previous or future. cheers
  16. Just had my spiders done gloss black by Lepsons of Swindon in April. Standard price was £53 + vat ea. Bit of haggling got them done at trade price of £45 + vat - total of £211.50 for the 4. Full bare metal strip, scuffs and curbing all welded and properly repaired. Also fitted and balanced the new tyres I supplied. Really pleased with them, would definately recommend. Ask for Jason. http://www.lepsons.com/
