*groan* thanks I keep reading places that fitting a hybrid turbo without a new downpipe is basically choking the turbo. Now honestly I don't really care about the extra performance at this very moment, just getting a working car again, but I don't want to reduce things like efficiency by not doing the whole job, but I also don't want to spend more money without having the need. I'm really not interested in going all out on the engine bay and swapping all that, I just don't want to be wasting the money spent on the hybrid by not spending the extra to make the most out of it. Clutch is definitely on my buy list, at which point I'll up the map, if a downpipe needs to go there too then so be it, but neither one are going to be done now if I can help it.

So out of curiosity... I read somewhere, and have been told, that if I'm getting a hybrid turbo, I should get a downpipe too. Now I assume that means a large bore downpipe? What's the sort of cost for that? Also if I want to do an aggressive remap, I need an uprated clutch, what's the sort of cost for that? Is there anything else I should change in the long run? I'm pretty sure the intercooler is fine given what I've read, I don't plan on going for sports exhausts, well maybe not for a year or so anyway, how about air filters? As you may be able to tell, I'm not exactly an expert in tuning, in fact I'm a noob I don't plan on doing any of this now, trying to keep costs low now and turn it into a pet project. In fact I never planned on doing anything to this, just driving it for another 5 years then getting something better, but what with the turbo going and the options that opened up, I thought I might as well have some fun.

Yeah I've talked to Ben loads of times and he's always been a good bloke, also not a single bad review (that I can find) of his work. The only thing is wallet size, still waiting on the quote, I think they're having trouble getting quotes from suppliers. I'm itching to get booked in though, really need this doing next week!

Yeah I'm not looking for an agressive map at the moment until I get a new clutch, so nowhere near the maximum for a hybrid turbo, whish is around 240bhp I think? Quote from Derv Doctor, very nice prices! (Am confirming whether they are inc or exc vat at the moment. As standard exchange turbo with 2 year warranty is:- £500 plus £175 to fit and £40 for gaskets, oil and filter. (£715 all in) I offer the Hybrid Turbo package for £1150 all in fitted and map'd to suit. Edit: they're including vat, woop

question, is it worth me doing all this to an engine that's already done 100k miles? I know modern engines are better wearing now but it is extra strain, could I actually do damage to other areas of the engine that will need more work doing? That is a question for the garages true, but thought you guys may have an opinion

Maybe so, I'm not saying every turbo in the PD140 engines have the issue, there are thousands of members on briskoda, hundreds likely have an octy 2.0tdi PD140 and not all of them have had the issue. So driving style may be it, or it may be luck of the draw. Everywhere I've read says the hybrid turbos are better, stronger, more durable. I'd rather spend the extra cash now than less now and risk even the small percentage chance of getting another problem like this. It's all about perception, mine is now that the standard fitted turbos aren't up to scratch, through experience. Yours is the opposite, neither of us are wrong Besides, I'm drooling at the thought of more power, don't tell the wife(to be) though.

Ok, update on quotes I've got, not much info but it's something. Derv Doctor still hasn't got back to me, will call him later, he's probably busy. RS Tuning got back to me with a quote: with them doing the hybrid turbo conversion 1225 excl vat (£1470) With them using a turbo supplied by someone else (cost for them converting my turbo into a hybrid is (£595 excl vat) £630 excl vat(£756) Both of those include 5 hours labor at £45 per hour excl vat and the remap for the new turbo Called Shark, they're going to get back to me with a quote this afternoon, said they could probably do me a deal with the STS included given it's a big job, hopefully they'll come back with a better quote. Left a message on the turbo technics workshop number to get a quote for them fitting the turbo, though unless they can do a remap at the same time I doubt I'll be using them.

Just fell across this and it looks interesting. Now my Octy is in a bad state at the moment but I'm curious about procedure. Starting with a non maxidot, stream audio, basic wheel. What would you say is the best course of action if you wanted to upgrade all three? Having never used one I don't know if you need the multifunction wheel to actually use the Maxidot. Adding to that, do you need a MFSW to use OEM bluetooth too? Anyway, whats' the best order? Maxidot > Audio > wheel? Maxidot > wheel > audio? etc not going to list them all Sorry to hijack

Just called them, they've quoted 5 hours at £45 +vat so £270, not including the map. They also offered to convert my current turbo into a hybrid for £595, now given that I can get one from Turbo Technics for around £650 I'm assuming it's a better idea to stick with the TT one? mine's on it's way out so I'd rather not re-use parts from it. He also said it's unlikely that the £650 one from TT is new as I'd be looking at over a grand for that? I hate being a newb in these situations, I've no idea if he's right or not...
