  1. I take it its a third party warranty? I'd imagine alot of the car supermarkets must offer something like this.
  2. If i have a choice i go with the ordinary shell diesel as i do notice a difference compared to supermarket brands.
  3. Can you get a 'sport' cat for the car? Maybe that could be a comprimise.
  4. If you took apart the ducting you'll realise its all covered in it. The engine vents into the intake therefore you can get oil in there, plus the exhaust loops back to the intake as well to control emmisions so the whole intake path is pretty dirty.
  5. Are you using high temperature paint for that? I'd imagine using ordinary stuff would just peel off after a bit of a heat soak.
  6. When i went to get new tyres, i parked it in the garage and noticed with the change in light that just the top face of the rear spoiler had faded quite badly. I've clean and polished the car a few times since which improves it at the time of cleaning but hasnt improved things permantly. I even tried some of the coloured polish/waxes but not sure if it was really the right stuff.
  7. Hmm, i was under the impression diesels didnt have cats. Maybe they do now. I'll go away and hide then!
  8. I picked the seat cupra splitter and thought i'd tape it onto the car to see how it looked. From a distance its not too bad but its the sections around where the bumper raises slightly by the edges of the lower grille really dont look good. Is there any aftermarket or oem ones from other cars that people have looked at or think that might fit?
  9. You do lots of miles but looking at your range and mpg seem like its quite a varied drive. I'd be surprised if you get close to the combined figures for the petrol cars. Surely with the petrol cars you'll be driving it gently to help on the economy!
  10. Thanks for the offers guys:thumbup: Aprrantly its been fixed, going to pick it up tommorow afternoon. The price quoted isnt too far different to those others are quoting. I didnt want to start picking at there price and service before they have actually done anything. Companies make money by charging us extra, just wanted to know what the official price from skoda would be. Apparently the turbo had basically disintegated, they had never seen this ever before and the bits where actually rattlying around making the whislting sound when driving. Its going to be interesting to see the remains tommorow. The cars done about 67k miles, i drive sensibly but like to enjoy it when i can. I had been driving along the single carriageway road down to the M1 stck behind someone doing about 45-50. Got to the roundabout to join it, slowly building up speed as its a tight entry. Put my foot down and... nothing.
  11. hmm.. say, i dunno, i needed to replace the turbo how much would it likley be? I've been quoted a figure from a garage i've never used before as it was an emergency and i have no reason to not beleive them but it does seem very high. They are not an official garage but have been dealing skodas for a while. I've agreed for them to do the work, hey, i need to get the car going again regardless but having never had to buy one i have no idea what sort of price they are. When spending any money i try and work out what i'm actually paying, how good is it compared to others, trying to get an informed view on where up/ down the scale things are. With this i have no idea, can Skoda really charge that amount?
  12. Quick update, Again been checking the pipes, the lower one seem to move a bit but you cant pull it out so i think thats fine, all the upper pipes and connections seem fine. I tried clearing the fault, but its now coming up with an EGR valve fault. How can i check this out, can you clean it? I think i saw a thread somewhere about it....
  13. I've spent a hour just looking and prodding and still cant see anything. All the small hoses seem to be ok. The top ducting from the IC seems to be ok, the connections seem no different than before, the only thing of concern is how the pipe itself seems thinner about 1 cm in front of the connection on it, could show the end connection has moved?. The only thing i cant check is the lower ducting to/from the turbo. I'm resigned to the fact,i'll have to take it to the garage next week, i can get a lift to work so no problems there.
  14. What a time to happen! I'm just coming round the roundabout, getting on to the motorway slip road and put my foot down and theres loads of wooshing and whistling and i'm suddenly going nowhere! Had a quick check on the hard shoulder but cant see anything. Managed to crawl along to the next junction and work my way back home. Low down, when pulling off its fine, but it just has no power. It crawls up to about 50-60 and it chucking out loads of smoke. Got back and plugged myself in and it comes up with: Saturday,11,August,2007,15:23:42 VAG-COM Version: Release 607.3-D Control Module Part Number: 038 906 019 LA Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC 0000SG 5405 Software Coding: 00102 Work Shop Code: WSC 13765 Additional Info: TMBWU46Y944048016 SKZ7Z0D2387452 1 Fault Found: 17964 - Charge Pressure Control: Negative Deviation P1556 - 35-00 - - Readiness: 0 0 0 0 0 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've checked in the engine bay and cannot see anything wrong, everything is at it was. Please can someone help? I'm preying its something simple!
  15. I'd picked up a new maf off ebay thinking it might help one day to try and invigorate the car. Its been sitting in a kitchen draw until today when i thought i'd see if it will have an affect. Oh dear... I now have no turbo boost, and it barely accelerates. it feels fine with gently throttle movement but when you try and put your foot down, nothing. If you do get a new MAF, just make sure you get the correct one! Thinking about it, i'm not sure whats wrong. Surely a MAF is a MAF isnt it?
  16. I've got similiar problems, the top face of the rear spoiler on the car is very faded compared to the roof sections almost dull pinkish in colour compared to the reflective red of the rest of the car. I think i've got some coloured polish somewhere...
  17. Oh ok, thanks Stu. Sorry, i was just being abit lazy there! thanks for the info.
  18. Thanks Stu, sorry, it is a bit brief! What is a plastic trim tool? Other than behind the armrest i cant see where else it could be fixed, as i dont have any speakers in the doors. In fact it looks one piece from the the top where the door handle is to the bottom with storage area. Having changed the speakers on an old 106 i know the door trim fixings can be easily knackered!
  19. I've suddenly come up with idea of going to the Spa 24h race. Now ive never driven abroad, or really gone to a non-holiday area, so am really in the deep end. Am i too late in trying to organise this? Can anyone suggest places to stay that are race-friendly? well, i'm open to any suggestions! Also had the plan to travel on the nurbugring, hmm.. maybe.
  20. Well Shifty runs them and a massive christmas decoration on his roof so the wheels cant slow you down too much;)
  21. I'm looking at attempting this fix but how do i actually remove the door trim? Is it screwed in/ clipped in? do i need any specific tools? Do i just try and pull it off the door? Please help before i break something!
  22. Being that the same engine in different platforms is either variable or fixed servicing it shouldn't be an issue using the variable servicing oil. In fact why do they specify different oil for the same engine, and the 'variable' is of a thinner grade but can potentially be changed after more abuse i.e longer period between changes?
  23. What's the gap like between the calipers and the standard wheels? Some of the balancing weights are quite chunky!
  24. Thanks everyone, panic averted then:) I think when somethin like that happens I tend to get very sensitive to everything that then happens, nervous for the next big bang or to try and work out whats actually wrong. I have noticed the oil cap isnt an air seal as i see a bit of oil collect in the rubber funnel bit.
  25. Well it seems ok, couldnt see anything wrong. I'd left the oil cap ontop of the airbox and the bonnet lining seems to have held it in place! There seems to be oil spray everywhere, nice hole spray pattern on the lining. No warnings came up on the dash. Would it show a low oil pressure? I'm still not convinced, but i'll leave it a while and see how it runs.
