  1. Nice car Welcome to the site!
  2. Are head units regional? Seen a brand new HU on ebay from the US which isnt yet available here. Would there be any reason why it wouldnt work? thinking FM/MW radio frequencies, features etc
  3. Nice looking car! That seems alot of force generated so would be very wary of mounting it even to the glass! Not sure how you could mount it so you could take it off again. By the sounds of it there some force on it so it would need to be mounted pretty securely, so would think of screwing onto the glass but your have some breather holes when taken off. Thats a strange looking front splitter? I'd imagine your need to go to a specialist company for the vRS down the side of the car and discuss with them about how to do it. Would probably do the colors as different layers to stick on seperately.
  4. Ive picked up a new wing mirror and plastic cover to replace the damaged ones that are still on the car. I decided not to get the garage to paint it as it would have ended up costing alot, and i thought its only the wing mirror, i could do that! So i've got the small spray cans from the garage but never actually done this before:O Can anyone give me some tips on making sure i dont mess it up? Does it matter if i dont get it completely covered in paint first off? I assume several coats of paint then 1 or 2 of the lacquer.
  5. Stu: Thanks for the offer i'll have to take you up on it:thumbup:
  6. Thanks for your help guys. Currently i'm doing 30k miles a year (must get another job:rolleyes: ), the car now has 45k miles on it and people have recommended not to go the springs only route if the dampers have done alot of miles. If the dampers get worn out quicker with the uprated springs I can see them needing to be replaced soon. I might have gone with the ARB if i actually had some corners to go round! I spend most my life on the motorway at the moment and find the low speed ride too hard(<40mph) and the high speed ride to soft, not to mention the dive under braking. I'm hoping a more progressive spring and/or damper will help. Hellfire: So how many miles has the car done in total? Looks like Impossible are in Rochester which isnt too bad, crappy website tho' ! I'll have to give em a ring nearer the time. Just need to decide what i'm actually going to do.. Might actually be the 500-600 quid i'm having difficulty accepting for the full setup!
  7. I am now seriously looking to upgade the suspension on my car. I would ordinarily have gone the springs only route as it would be close to the standard ride but as i'm doing high mileage then it will have to be dampers as well:( Anyway I'm a bit wary that it will now turn out to be a bone shaking experience. Ive never riden in a modifed car so cant really compare what it could be like. I'd much prefer to get someone who knows what there doing when fitting so can anyone recommend a company in the south east? Ideally who can re-adjust the geometry as well. Awsome is up in Manchester, too far away. Jabba might be just reacheable but still its a long way. Any chance for a favor? Would anyone in the south, preferably around Crawley/ Horsham with modifed suspension be willing to give me a quick ride on the rubbish roads around here? Dont worry I'm perfectly normal;) I'll happily compensate anyone.
  8. On mine the tyre on the spare is the same exactly as the originals, i.e Michelin Premacy's which are directional. Because the spare could be put on either side of the car which would mean running the tyre backwards. I assume the speed limit is because of this. Though the the steel rim didnt quite look right, it didnt seem to have the same offset to the alloys as it would try and fall off as your bolting it on.
  9. Ok, i'm going to sound stupid. These do look good but what makes these different to the standard ones? Can some one explain it?
  10. If it shudders through the wheel it could be badly balanced wheels causing it. I had this and there would a lower level shudder to the wheel until you come to brake and it would get very violent. And this was definatly do to the wheel as i then changed fronts to back and it went away.
  11. In what respect are they not suitable? I really dont know too much, I've never driven a car with modifed susp. so am trying to understand what its likely to be like before i take the plunge! Are the eibachs that much different??? I know some people on here have various different suspension parts, hows koni's compared to eibachs then? And is there rather hefty price justified?
  12. Have another look on the Awsome website! £298+VAT for the suspension kit with adjustable dampers. Lowers about 30-35mm. There was a thread recently which Sarah stated prices for both eibach and koni's.
  13. I thought you pressed the AF button. Pressing TP will only switch on the traffic announcements and cancel it when a TA broadcast is active. You have 2 AF presets so you can have 12 stations setup on the 1 to 6 buttons, plus you have the TP channel which lets you have 6 presets with traffic announcmements. If you press AF when listening normally it will switch to the last frequency used on the AF channel.
  14. Well in theory yeah, but nobody stopped. At the time i just looked like the mirror folded back and cracked the mirror. It was only after driving to work did i see the plastic had a large crack in it. But to be honest for what it is, its not worth it claiming on the insurance when the excess is a few hundred quid.
  15. Slight brain to keyboard mistake and i get a slagging! I think theres some confusion over what i wrote! I was not in the middle of the road. I was in the middle of my lane or my road. The speed bumps are humps in each lane and i was going over the one in my lane so was in the middle of my lane. It may have been early at the time, and i probably should have tried swerving but i was still tired and determined to hold my ground. Oh well... Erm, back on subject. Thanks for the info on the parts, was going to ring up the local dealer to try and get them. I think if you got somebody to paint the professionally it would end up costing alot more. Think i'll see if i can get a can of paint. Thought might just change the mirror as i think the heating element is now on all the time. Does it just pull off? Do i need to remove the plastic mirror body? Think i'll have a go at the weekend.
  16. Funnily enough ive just had this happen this morning! Some idiot decided to go round a bus pulling up at a stp while i was in the middle of my road trying to straddle the speed bump. I now have a cracked door mirror and the plastic cover is broken:( Looks like its painted as well which is going to add to it. How ******* annoying. So would like to know how easy it is to change the mirror and presumeably the painted cover could easily be replaced as it seems to be screwed to the black hinge mechanism.
  17. Ok, thanks. Its a lot of money.Hmm.. what happened to having a standard car! Didnt last long!
  18. I thought the standard setup had the amplification within the head unit not in the aerial base. thinking about it a standard type areial should be able to pick signals up better than one of these so maybe some sort of booster would be needed. But am interested to see how it goes:)
  19. Was bored and browsing ebay and saw you can get an imitation BMW/SAAB shark fin type aerial. Has anyone fitted one these? would be interested to see what they are like.
  20. Strange... Shell's site lists every site in the crawley area as stocking diesel extra!!! Hmm everyone's keeping quiet while the prices keep getting higher and higher:( Where are the protests then?
  21. Well i've managed to finally convince myself to get the springs and that price seems good. But as everyone recommends not fitting to higher mileage cars could you tell me what the price for the dampers would be? Tempted to just get the springs fitted, and get the dampers later on. Just need to find somewhere to get them fitted......
  22. 44'000 miles so far for my car, an 04 plate. 30'000 a year at this rate should mean it'll be well worn in in a few years time!
  23. I'd perhaps argue over it being a light car! Always see people raving about various tyres but then you read they wore out in 10k. It does seem to be a subjective thing so am trying to compare there performance on the mytyres site.
  24. Ive realised that my fronts are getting close to needing replacing so have started looking on mytyres.co.uk. I know alot of people use these sites so i'm hoping someone can help me. I'm not interested by total grip or sportyness but more concerned by how durable they are as i do 30000 miles a year it seems like its going to be 2 tyres every year at this rate. Im trying to decipher the tyretest graphs and ive even looked on that site and it doesnt help. The lower the figure is better for grip and braking but what about tyre noise? The higher it is, the better or worse? same with the tyre wear figure, i assume the higher the number the more wear. The original michelins that were on the back till last year are needing replacing, but the goodyears that i got last year seem half used and there now on the rear. But to last 43'000 miles those michelins are good, admitedly they were on the back for about 30'000. Do i spend 90 quid on the michelins or 50 -60 on a different make. looking into falken, toyo, yokohama or even the uniroyals look good. AARRGGGHH too much choice!
