  1. Oh, and sorry to DP, but Halforda have a BOGOF deal on their Super Brilliance bulbs. I got some Extreme Brilliance - and they're fantastic!
  2. I ran a HiD setup in my Octy for a short while, and all was well, until I got pulled over by a Police car. He asked why my headlights were so bright and I told him. I was then informed that it was in fact illegal to install a HiD system into ANY headlight that was not originally designed to have a High Intesnity Discharge system. I informed the officer that my vehicle had passed an MOT with this set-up and he said it shouldn't have as the glare was tremendous. I had to remove the kit and take my car to an MOT testing station and then produce my documents. I will never re-fit one to a halogen designd headlamp again.
  3. Carcoon would be the way forward. I have to say though, I have a Gazebo with sides on it and it does the same job as the top cover! With room to spare!
  4. Happened to mine a couple of times, once with a light, once without. Both times it's been screen wash level low. Hope it helps.
  5. Aha! Some competition! I love the thrill of the chase! I don't fancy our chances though!!!
  6. Well, drove home tonight with the Osrams in, and you know what, they ain't half bad! Not HID bright, but none too shabby. I'm still going to keep a sharp eye out for some L&K lights though.
  7. Slice of humble pie for DeeBe! On my way to work this morning (5am start) I was pulled over by a Police BMW 330! Asked why my headlights were so bright. I told him that I had a HID kit fitted and he informed me they were actually illegal. He informed me that a car can only utilise them if the headlight was specifically designed to do so, and mine aren't as they won't have a self-levelling system - whatever that is! I explained that my car had passed an MOT with them in, and he remarked that it shouldn't have and that I had to remove them, or risk a fine. He was actually rather decent about the whole thing. Famous last words... Bought some Osram Nightbreakers today and fitted them - they seem a bit weak! Now have to go to an MOT station to get them checked and produce at my local Police station. To be honest, it's probably a good thing, because the HID kit only used one original 3pin H4 plug to power both lamps, so maybe theres an upside to this! I'm in South Shields Si, where are you?
  8. I hope I haven't started a debate here! I must say though, my car recently passed an MOT test with the HID kit installed into the standard headlight housing, no adjustment needed either - and no it wasn't a 'friendly' MOT station! However, I do see chav cars running with these cheap Chinese kits in all manner of colours, and sometimes the glare can be ridiculous, plus they look a lot more OEM if they are in a projector housing. The light output is increased dramatically for me, and I can see a lot further than with Halogen filament bulbs, so they are definitely the way forward, but I am not 100% happy with them being in the standard housings. I appreciate my car, and enjoy spending some money on it, but I don't want people thinking I'm a 'boy-racer'!
  9. I have a Xenon kit fitted at present in the standard lights, and I don't get any flashes from oncoming drivers or anything, but was actually thinking about a new headlight housing which incorporates the projector unit into it. Like a half glass ball. It focuses the beam a lot more effectively.
  10. I was wondering whether or not it was possible to have 'projector' style headlights on my '02 TDi. I kow the L&K had them, but they will be muchos expensive and rarer than rocking horse pooh... I know SuperSkoda do aftermarket lights, but the projector on those is the foglight - so I'd be no better off, plus they look ghastly! Especially with those LED strips! So, any ideas? Thanks people! David.
  11. I've got 18's on and to be honest, theres a little more road noise, and it's a tiny bit harder over rougher roads, but thats it. The lower profile means I can turn in a bit harder too, as theres less rubber to 'fold' under the strain!
  12. Thanks people. The alloys only set me back £200, with nearly new Yokohama Parada's on!
  13. After seeing the other thread, I thought it about time I put a picture or two of mine up! Bear with me! Starting from the day I got it, when I got the VRs spoiler fitted (thanks to amatuerstuntman), when I had the Audi TT 17's on, and when I got the 18" R32's on.
  14. I'm also thinking about this. If I do replace them, will it render all 4 tweeters redundant?
  15. Good news then Oggy!!! However, I never thought about what lordrobs has mentioned... ...my car is in a tight carpark during the day at work - and I can't be chewed sourcing a new set to have em cc'd. Hmm... food for thought, cheers for all the info people.
  16. Hello all. I was wondering, are the door rub strips just stuck on or are they pinned on? I have mornings off all this week, so was planning to waste my time (I mean spend my time valuably) removing them. My friend had a Lupo and his were stuck on, but don't want to start if they are pinned. Cheers in advance! Dave.
  17. I have a Peugeot 207 one, fits a treat!
  18. Perfect, all sorted, price was bang on too! Thanks for the help people!
  19. This has just happened to mine tonight, no fuse problems or bulb problems, and the 3rd high level light is also off. Does anyone have a picture of what I'm looking for and/or a part number? Thanks in advance. Dave.
  20. Looks like Ford Polaris Grey - slight blue/green tinge....
  21. In short littlebull - I sincerely doubt you will get a new car, or a new engine for that matter. As other members have said, tell them you want an independent engineer to check the engine over, at their cost, and they can rectify this situation by resolving any problems that MAY come up. When the car is repaired, make sure you get it in writing that the vehicle is repaired to manufacturers requirements, and that it is signed by a manager. This way, if any premature engine/turbo problems arise, you have something to fall back on. It sucks, it really does. I had a Renault Clio Sport (£15k at the time) and it was back to the dealers 46 times (in 13months - honestly, I only managed 4,688miles by trade-in time) for major problems, electrical failures, exhaust failures, fit & trim failures, and it seems that if a dealer is willing to fix a problem, then thats their asses covered. Frustrating. I hope you get this sorted - one way or another, but tread carefully. Dave.
  22. DERV is the way forward if fuel economy is your goal. My last 3 cars have all ran on devil-juice. When I first got my Octavia 1.9TDi I was averaging around 112miles to 10 litres of fuel. Around town now, I am getting around 54.8MPG - although this is on the trip computer, so probably around 50MPG. It has showed an average of 74.2MPG on a run...... I drive like a grandad though.......
