  1. Need to get my creaking rear end sorted out and an wondering if anyone can recommend a good independent in the midlands, was thinking of trying unit 18 in milton keynes?
  2. Seems i may have been a little hasty in condemming the anti roll bar, had a good look under the car while someone bounced the rear up and down and the creaking seemed to be coming from the bumpstops which are hard, perished and starting to fall apart. I knew they were knackered when the new dampers were fitted but didnt have time to get new ones at the time. The reason I think its become a problem now is that with lowered springs the bumpstops are coming into play sooner than before. There looks to be only 10mm of travel before the bumpstop comes into contact with the top of the shock absorber where as before there would have been around 12mm more. Have smeard grease around the cracks in the stops and its now quite. New ones will be going on soon.
  3. If i cant get rid of the creaking you will be welcome to it!
  4. I dont think you can get away from the fact that if your going to lower your car there is going to be some trade off in comfort especially if your car isnt a vrs. Have just fitted a B12 kit to my vrs and am very happy with it, the ride is slightly firmer but better damped and its lowered the car by 12mm front and rear which for me is perfect. It now looks like it should of when it left the factory. I think a matched set of springs and dampers is definitly the way to go.
  5. have got to replace the bumpstops so will check alignment of the arb when its up on the ramps, like i say it could be bushes elsewhere as the car is 8 years old and is close to 90k. its unfortunate that creaks and rattles are my pet hate in cars!
  6. I used lithium grease too, wasnt expensive though. I suppose its possible it may be wishbone or trailing arm bushes. Just seems odd i didnt hear a peep from the rear suspension until the arb was changed.
  7. Has anyone tried a volkswagen racing rear anti roll bar? Fitted a whiteline one a few months back and i have yet to stop it creaking, spraying the bushes with wd works for a few days before the noises return. Regreased the bushes a week ago when the b12 kit was fitted but its now creaking worse than ever. Cant wait to chuck it in the skip and either put the standard one back on or look for a better uprated one.
  8. Had the same problem on my previous octavia but on the passenger side. took it to the local dealership several times before taking it to rainworth in mansfield who diagnosed and fixed it first time.Turned out to be dodgy sealer on a joint on the bulkhead. It was a dash out job but i had no problems with squeaks or rattles afterwards
  9. Does anyone know if its possible to have a partial failure of the clutch position sensor? Reason i ask is i still have the overreving problem when changing gear, revs rise around 250 rpm as the throttle pedal is released and the clutch pedal is depressed. However the switch still turns off the cruise control ok. The overreving only occurs during fast gear changes but i am defintley not not pressing the clutch pedal before releasing the throttle. Thank you.
  10. Its better if you start wth a coarser grade paper, 2000 or even 1500 to take the top off the high spot you create when touching in. If you use an ultra fine grade to start with it tends to ride over the high spot and you take off paint from the surrounding area. Also make sure you use a small block no bigger than an inch square made from a hard material
  11. Did mine last year, used an orbital sander on the chrome, etch primer, race blue and lacquer and much to my surprise its stayed on! car looks far better for it.
  12. Maybe the best compromise would like be the H+R 35mm springs to give a drop of 20mm but hopefully slightly better ride quality than the 50mm ones . Other thing of course is that to buy the dampers and springs separately is more expensive than buying the b12 Kit
  13. Hi, am wanting to change my springs and dampers but can't make a decision on which to use. From a ride and handling aspect i would prefer to use a bilstein /eibach combination but this would only lower the car by 15mm at best. The alternative is to use H+R springs but am not sure how good the ride quality will be. Has anyone used 50mm H+R with springs with bilstein dampers ? Ideally i would like the car lowered around 25 mm but doesn't look possible without going down the coilover route ?
  14. Anyone experienced this? Revs increase by around 500 rpm when making quick gear changes. Am sure i am depressing the clutch in time with lifting off the gas. Have been driving for 30 years and never had this happen on any other car. Am i right in thinking the clutch pedal has a switch to cut rpm when changing gear? Car is a vrs tfsi Cheers
  15. Thank you, guess thats the first place to look, think i will drop it into my local independent rather than the aircon people.
  16. Have been taking it to a local aircon speicialist. Where are the valves located?
  17. Hi, my aircon has a leak in the system somewhere, its been refilled with gas 3 times and works for about a week before it stops blowing cold, the place that have been recharging it cant see a leak [its had dye in it each time] but think it may be leaking from the back of the condenser. Can anyone tell me if this is A likely ? and B does it entail taking the radiator out to change the condenser? I have a [probably ill founded fear] of getting an airlock in the cooling system and cooking the engine! Thank you.
  18. Main reason i sold my 13k vrs estate and bought a 6.5 k one that already has a couple of dinks on it. For me at least it spoils the enjoyment of having mint car thats worth a lot of money when you cant park it anywhere without worrying about it getting damaged.
  19. Dont believe the old oven cleaner trick, all it does is clean it! sanded mine with an orbital sander until the copper was starting to show, coat of etch, 2 coats of 2k primer, quick 800 flat then base and lacquer. Was expecting it to chip easily but has been ok now for a couple of months
  20. Yes but the models mentioned will have a higher ride height to start with.
  21. Used the old cr vrs to tow my trailored willys jeep to holland a couple of times, just scraped under the 1400kg limit but drove perfectly.
