  1. Sorry to come in here ignorant, but will this work on my Octavia ? It was built in Dec 2009, and only has rSAP connectivity. For example would that probably need re-coding ? Thanks for any help - need new phone and dont want to be limited AGAIN to Nokia etc.
  2. With a compatible phone the Skoda Bluetooth unit is excellent. Also any January 2010 builds onwards appear to now have a more widely compatible bluetooth system that will connect to Sony-ericssons etc - but if u use a Nokia then no worries. I would definitely get it. I would also get the DSG if poss. I was in 2 minds but having gone with it and now driven it for 2 weeks I am delighted. Its not perfect - jolts a bit when moving away at times but on the move it is superb. Always in correct gear and changes are super smooth. D
  3. Ok - loads of searching and I have spoken to many people. Sony-Ericsson tell me that their phones will not connect to any RSAP system. Skoda are getting back to me as to why they have put total rubbish on their literature. Blackberry 8900 Curve - the trick as has been put elsewhere, is to put into 'listen' mode not 'Search'. Then it connected immediately. All I can say is, what a mess ! D
  4. The Audi probably has the older unit - the point is, the phone allows full access to the sim so it shouldnt be a problem. But on top of that I have tried a k550i which is on the list and that also will not connect. D
  5. Sony's dont have any RSAP settings to turn on. They all work fine with my audi giving total sim access. I think my Bluetooth unit is faulty / not set up.
  6. Another thing is that I cannot add the car to my devices as the phone doesnt find anything. The car finds the phone though - just then says in compatible. I think there must be something I need to do with the car as it isnt connecting even to a phone that is advertised as compatible in the brochure i.e K550i.
  7. It says K550i works yet I just get 'Mobile not compatible'. I have tried C902, c501 and K550i. Even if there isnt full sim access surely it shoudl connect ? Myphone cannot even find the Car's bluetooth system. I am now fed up. D
  8. Our Sony-E phones all connect to our Audi with full sim access, so i cannot see why it would be a problem.
  9. Just picked the new Octavia vRS up - delighted with it except my SE C902 will not connect to the bluetooth phone system. Having searched the forum everybody says the c902 works fine - any suggestions what I can do ? D
  10. Well the brochure calls it the T FSI - what am I missing ? I did actually mistype but looking again I was right first time. Yes, Xenons not Bi-Xenons. I also got the Curtain airbags, meant to spec silver rails but forgot, and hate sunroofs. I have an Ariel Atom to tow to the track when its too far to drive. This replaces a Subaru Forester that was great but a bit agricultural. Tow Bar also handy for bike rack. Will post some pics when I get it. D
  11. The new car is ready for pick up - woohoo !! Getting it Saturday morning. Details are: Black vRS T FSI DSG Estate Options include Bi-Xenons, Full Leather, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, F+R Parking sensors, Sunset Glass, Heated seats, Ipod connection.....oh yeah and a Tow Bar - couldnt find any other boxes to tick ! Cant wait.
  12. This all depends on what car you are in and what you are following etc. I had a horrible moment in my old Volvo V70 in the Alps as 1st gear was long and the speed just kept coming. Obstacles were coming fast and the brakes indeed just made it worse. All I could do was drive into a snow bank and slow that way. If like the V70 you have a 4 speed auto with long 1st gear, then you will go much faster than a Mini with a short 1st gear, which is lighter. ABS surprised me when it was totally ineffective on the Ice, and as has been said just lost control of the vehicle.
  13. Thanks guys. I didnt like the white panels in the seats on my Fabia but the new octavia ones arent so bright. The dealer reckons the standard ones are grippier therefore better if being driven fast/on track. Thats why I asked your opinion. I will give that dealer a go and see best i can get - thanks info. I have a price from DtD and an online sale price for my trade-in so can use that for a better price. Anthracite is now a definite colour on the FL vRS. Maxidot ? If I am getting the Sat Nav screen and the vRS states 'Trip Computer' isnt that covered ? Thanks
  14. I am looking to come back to Skoda ownership after 3 years. The deals available on the vRS seem very good. I have checked the DTD quotes and although it is some £1200 cheaper still than the Vat free offer, my trade-in price is very good too so may still go with the dealer. Question is, what is the best spec to go for ? Intention is Leather, Sat Nav, Xenons, Black paint as a base spec. 1) What's the verdict on Leather against the standard cloth/alcantara ? 2) Does Anthracite look any good ? 3) Any other essential options to tick that I might ignore ? Thanks any help.
  15. If you look at the Ibiza PD160 vs Fabia vRS purely on paper and not in the real world, you would indeed spend alot to get it to the same spec. But to be honest there isnt a great deal between these two cars when driven on usual UK roads. In fact I found the ride so much better on the Fabia that it was that much more enjoyable to drive. I thought the power differential didnt make enough of a real difference at the end of the day.
  16. Good points - Revo man did say it would take a little time to get to full power as the Ecu has to learn. Also I would agree that it isnt too agressive which is good, but I still feel it isnt quite enough. Oh well we'll see how it develops.
  17. Ok so I went ahead and had the remap. Got to say my initial impressions arent that fantastic. It definitely has a wider spread of power, and is definitely faster, but not as much so as I thought it would be. Now, obviously the whole nature of the car is not for brutal speed, and car builds speed deceptively fast, but I did expect the remap to do more. Anybody else found this ?
  18. I am booked in to have my vRS remapped with the Revo map tomorrow morning. Yes, Jabbasport was my preference but Peterborough is tooooo far and I like the switch idea to go back to normal. I am booked in with MEGA4 in Hersham in Surrey and wondered if anybody had had any experience of them ? Secondly is there any way of getting a Briskoda discount ? Finally although I am sure I want the remap I just wanted to check what problems others have experienced - for example clutche wear etc ?
  19. Was following a BMW 330i (petrol obviously) in my Furby vRS from single carriageway onto dual carriageway last night and he went for it so I thought I'd see how quickly he lost me. He didnt actually gain more than a metre or 2 and we stayed pretty level. At the next roundabout once again he couldnt pull away. Now he may not have been trying all out but by the way he waved goodbye and the way he was driving I doubt he was holding much back. I was really impressed with my vRS to be honest (it's totally standard).
  20. I am a bit fed up with the Radio reception on the standard unit. It is absolutely rubbish and wont hold a signal half the time. Now, I have read lots of threads on here but nothing really helps. If I get Skoda to change the head unit (it also turns itself off when I change preset channels) is it likely to improve or is this just usual for these units ? If so, is there anything I can do and would a new head unit from Pioneer or Alpine etc be any better ?
  21. All insurance companies I have used have always based the premium on the highest risk person on the policy. Would be a pretty obvious con otherwise for younger drivers !
  22. Best lights I have ever had were my higher powered (slightly illegal I agree) Scooby lights. The Xenons on my Merc were rubbish really. I reckon better bulbs are a better bet. I tested the Ibiza 130 back to back (drove the Fabia I was lent for 3 hrs to the Seat Garage, who werent too pleased). I found there was a big difference. As I have said elsewhere, the Ibiza had a much harsher ride and yet it didnt seem to actually handle any better, and was harder to get the best from. The Ibiza was noisier too. The vRS was quicker but then the Ibiza had done less than 1000 miles against the Fabia at 6000. The interior I felt was worse too. Wasnt a difficult choice after that.
  23. Personally I didnt like the way the Clio drove, let alone the non-existent build quality. Therefore I went for the Fabia. I personally think the Clio is alot harder to get the best out of (all I can put it down to) as all the magazines seem to rate the 182 in particular as such a great handling car - but I just dont see it. The Fabia is alot easier to get the best from it.
