  1. These Yetis get everywhere. I now think that Briskoda members are in a minority. There is a silent majority of Yeti owners just waiting out there. You know them - they are the ones that fail to return your friendly "hoot" and wave - they just glare at you for disturbing their peace. BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID.
  2. Or use the cancel switch on top of the stalk. On the Yeti, the cruise control is a "one finger" operation. Set, Resume and Cancel are simply a finger tip apart so there is really no need to dip clutches or stab brakes. Its just a matter of a finger movement - unless, of course, you are gripping the wheel so tightly that you do not have a finger to spare. As far as pet hates, the only thing that annoys me is the run off of rain water when the doors are opened. Most of it drips into the footwells.
  3. Already bought one of these from local Lidl some months back. As Graham says:- keep an eye on the Lidl offers " 'cos what goes around comes around." and they will probably be back in stock soon.
  4. If the gap is THAT narrow (for the need to fold in the mirrors) then 15 mph is still too fast. The car needs to be steered to give some extra clearance at a speed that any contact would limit any damage. The Yeti mirrors are so small that folding them in makes very little difference to the car's width. I only fold the mirrors in when parking in Tesco's carpark. Most other carparks have a decent width to the bays.
  5. Perhaps in 43 years you will get good at it!! As for being pro-active - if the other driver has just passed a "passing place" I will stand my ground and make the other reverse. The only exception is for Tractors with Trailers. Sorry to hear you are past your best. If the folding mirrors had been available when I bought my Yeti, I would have got them but NOT if they came as an expensive extra.
  6. I have driven the narrow Welsh roads for 48 years and never needed to fold in the mirrors - it is a myth. Driving these roads needs a different technique, that of noticing a passing place and being able to reverse. (and- judging by some of the drivers I meet - reversing needs a lot more practice) I use my mirrors "lorry style" to reverse and to align the sides of the car along the road edge. So the ability to remotely fold mirrors is just another gimmic and a waste of money. I manually fold the mirrors when in a car park - it is not a major problem to push the mirror inward when leaving the car and, as both mirrors can be accessed from the windows, when driving off. I had electrically folding mirrors on my ex X-Trail but rarely used the folding option - except in car parks - and then only to protect the mirrors.
  7. Hope your passport is up to date. We have a strong immigration policy about incomers here!
  8. South of Watford. You must be joking We had a brilliant run back to Manchester this weekend - no Yetis but a clear run. All the traffic seemed to be coming in to Wales. (until they put up the "Wales Full" sign!!) Coming back last night, passed just two cars. The downside was a low sun directly in our eyes and a dirty windscreen (slap wrists Terfyn) Now polished to a shine.
  9. I have run a socket extension from the rear outlet to the rear seats for DVD players. It tucks neatly between the seat cushions an is safe as well as being out of the way.

    DLR's

I still wonder why people have to buy their way into "automated" systems which may not work as the driver expects or wants. What is wrong with the human brain and a switch? It is a far better combination than an electro mechanical system that is prone to react in an unacceptable way on occasions. If yu don't enjoy the pleasure of the driving experience - go by bus.
  11. Not everybody realises the advantages of AC in producing DRY air. I have used the AC to dry soggy kids (plus self on occasions) and it is very effective. We will now get a lot of posts about waste of fuel, polluting the planet etc. etc.

    DLR's

I never knew that!! Is it a hitch hiking thing? It is often the case round here that we drive through densly wooded areas, so the DLRs are an important asset to being seen early by oncoming drivers. Any lights (except possibly sidelights) will be noticed sooner than no lights at all. We have a stretch of totally straight road about a mile long (Lon Goed) tree lined and quite dark, it is possible to see an oncoming car at the far end provided it has its lights on. For that reason I always drive with the DLRs on.
  13. This is a most frequent occurence. I have been "accosted" in car parks by potential Yeti owners wanting all the details. Always ends with a very good natured chat and a friendly exchange of info.
  14. Correct me if I am wrong:- TDi = 110 TDi = 140 TDi = 170
  15. I think that is the point. It is a "bad" bulb and should be replaced under guarantee. If Skoda claim a life of 8000 hours, then a bulb that fails so soon must have a manufacturers fault and be "not fit for purpose". Any dealer who wants to keep your custom will replace it without quibble.

    Professions

26 years in the gas industry responsible for high pressure transmission and for storage. 10 years consultancy. Now retired. No - I do not fix cookers!!
  17. My boot light does seem to be affected by the 10 minute timeout feature. It does not go out completely but flickers dimly.
  18. Just to add a technical note. The air at 4.30 will be cold and so will be denser. This will give more O2 through the turbo and a better burn and better mpg. The warmer air in the afternoon will have the opposite effect. OR you just dawdle to work and rush home for your tea!!! I always liked night driving 'cos the cars were always more responsive.
  19. Sad to read your account. Did you mean Ultimate car mats or did you mean CarMats 4 U. Different companies. I got a set of mats from CarMats4U and they were perfect and of a high quality. They fitted well and connected to the floor studs without problem. I criticised the fact that the driver's mat did not have any heel reinforcement but they said it could be added if required. I have had my set for 18 months. I would use them again. There is no need for any fixing to the studs, the studs are "waisted" so the eyelets hold without any extra fittings. This makes for a flat surface on the mat.
  20. I changed my phone last week. Another Nokia. The Proclip phone holder was the only bit of kit I had to change. Ordered Sunday, sent yesterday and arrived today. Fitted as a direct replacement on to the car mount. Now the Brodit Proclip system may not be the cheapest but it is, in my opinion, the best. So thanks to DSL Developments for the good service and to Brodit for their good design. Incidentally the reason for the phone change. I receive virtually no signal in my house. My service supplier has a system that uses the WLAN on my "box" to connect into the network. Its like having a mast in the hall.

    Fording!

So that's your route to work - I often wondered. Is this a case of wrong water on the line?
  22. Not really. People with the HID lights, correctly, think they are wonderful - but they are sitting behind them and are not dazzled by (badly adjusted) beams. The H4 brigade (i.e. me) prefer the more cut off and controlled standard lights. I will agree that the supplied bulbs are very poor which is why I replaced them with the Osram NightBreaker Plus. The difference is well worth the cost of the new bulbs. Replacing the heads on the Yeti is a bit tricky. I use a camping mirror on a piece of string to check the bulb placement. The trick, once the bulb is in place, is to return the clip and waggle the bulb. If it is firmly located the clip is in place. Just remember, when you buy your new bulbs, that the HID guys will be visiting their bank manager for a loan when their lights go on the blink!!
  23. Sorry EdmundB I was not getting at you. I think your method has a lot going for it. I use foglights on the narrow lanes around where I live to light the verges. Its as Johann says, some people think the use of foglights (except in fog) a mortal sin and worthy of the extreme sanction. To them I say :moon:
  24. Anyone thought of buying a stick on clock for the dashboard?
