I would think so as there was just a clear hole where the towball had hit my car. He, of course. had vanished by the time I got back.

Well, what a considerate driver you are - as long as you are okay then sod the rest of motorists. Perhaps that’s why Caravanners are so universally disliked. Oh, and the other driver reversed into my car while it was parked.

Incidentally can I make a plea that you fit a concealed or removable tow bar and Not a fixed one. Fixed bars present a dangerous tripping hazard and are lethal in minor bumps causing untold damage. I had an Octavia before the Yeti's and someone with a fixed towbar gently reversed into the front while parked at a supermarket and the towbar did major damage costing more than £1000 to put right. So please fit a removable tow bar.

Probably, I seem to remember his wife complaining that he should have spent more to have the job done properly in the first place rather than having to pay twice to get it sorted out!

I've never had a towbar fitted but a friend had one fitted to his Yeti by a local fitter and had no end of problems with erratic behaviour of electrics. One thing I remember was that the rear beepers did not recognise a caravan was there and continually activated, apparently the system should be programmed so that when a caravan is hooked up the beepers are automatically deactivated, I remember he had other problems as well but my aged brain has forgotten the details... Do a quick search on this forum and I'm sure you will find plenty of advice.

You can't think of everything! Smartlink allows you to use many of the Apps on your phone and is great as a SatNav with Google or Waze with map on radio screen. Much better than built in SatNav in my opinion. Trouble is all these extras add up! Haldex service, Smartlink, tow bar etc - and worth getting Skoda towbar and fitting to make sure electrics are sorted properly. Good luck, I am on my second Yeti and now can't find anything else to swap it for when time comes.

Getting Apple CarPlay working depends on whether “Smartlink” is installed on the radio. It is an optional extra that costs approx £125 when fitted from new, I believe it can be installed later but you have to pay Skoda the £125 (ish) for the coding to activate it on your radio. Was it installed from new? Otherwise you are looking at having to pay Skoda to get it working.

Yeti heater not working correctly.
Sounds like a diverting vent is not working properly. As you turn up the heat the vent gradually diverts more hot air from the heater matrix to the car. Getting to it is another matter entirely!

Advice needed on + and - of going from 17" to 16" wheels
You'll forget about it within the first five miles of comfortable ride - and your wallet will be more comfortable because 16" tyres are cheaper than 17" and last longer!
-
Advice needed on + and - of going from 17" to 16" wheels
Enjoy the more comfortable ride of the 16” wheels - you can’t see the arch gap when you are driving and anyway you really don’t notice the visual difference unless you are actually looking for it.

Jacking up the Yeti
I've had 2 Yeti’s, the first in 2012 and that was replaced by a new one in 2017 - just before they were discontinued. I had no problem seeing the triangular symbol on either vehicle and I used it to place the jack twice a year when I swapped from summer to winter tyres in the Autumn and back again in the Spring. Now converted to All Season tyres to save me the twice yearly hassle. Seriously I have never had a problem finding the marks but I can see that in the dark on a rainy night it might be more difficult, so why not get a small pot of white paint and use a small paintbrush to colour the triangles white? - then you can’t miss them!

Well, if you don’t have your Yeti what does it matter? You will soon find out where the jacking points are when you get it and LOOK!!

Dear G**, how hard is it to find the jacking points! Just use your eyes and look! I really despair of peoples inability to cope with simple tasks.

Advice needed on + and - of going from 17" to 16" wheels
Living in the UK with our generally mild climate All season tyres are the best solution, wet grip, dry grip, snow grip at normal range of temperatures. Okay if you live in hilly areas with regular snowfalls then different tyres for summer and winter can be justified. But honestly for most of us it's not necessary.

Does the spec of the new rims define the centre diameter? If not ask the supplier who will know. I don’t know if centre diameters are the same across most rims but somehow doubt it - that would be too easy wouldn’t it? If you want a Skoda logo on the caps and they are of a different size then you can buy “stick-on” Skoda logo centre cap covers, I have used them and they are fine although I wouldn’t recommend relying on the self adhesive, best to use hot melt adhesive. Have a look on eBay.

If both wheels are Skoda originals then centre caps will fit, they are not expensive anyway - I replaced those on my original Yeti and I think is was less than £10 for a set of four.

Maybe so but they are the manufacturer specified sizes and as such can be fitted without any problems with insurance etc. Trading in a car with non specified wheel sizes can be problematic as well. Just saying it is simpler and safer to stick with specc'd sizes.

It is much safer and simpler to stick with Skoda specified wheel & tyre sizes, so 16 & 17" wheels. No insurance or other implications. The price determining factor is getting hold of 4 16" Skoda alloy wheels cheaply, tyres for 16" wheels are less expensive than 17" so some saving there. Best places to look are probably vehicle breakers and eBay, as long as you price in refurbishment then you're up and away in comfort! Currently there are 4 Skoda Yeti alloys on eBay for £230 (incl delivery), need some refurbishment so need to add that to price so maybe £500 plus all in - plus tyres that you need anyway. Not too bad a price for the change.

Spot on.

Advice needed on + and - of going from 17" to 16" wheels
All higher riding vehicles like the Yeti compromise handling and comfort. If handling is a top priority then you can end up spending a lot of money on a Yeti to try and "improve" it, but you won't overcome the basic characteristics. Far better surely to buy a car designed with the handling characteristics you yearn for to start with? In addition having spent money on the 'improvements' you will likely be faced with higher insurance premiums and a big reduction in the financial value of the vehicle. I know this from bitter experience having tried to polish a t**d in my younger days by spending a lot of money and effort "improving" a much prized Triumph. The hard lesson was buy a car designed with the attributes you want, that's why I bought my Yeti's with 16" wheels. I can absolutely understand why someone would change 17" wheels for 16" wheels for the improvement in comfort. But carefully consider the total cost (up to £1000) before deciding. Perhaps just changing tyres to Michelin Crossclimates or Goodyear All Seasons would be a more economic solution?

As you are getting new wheels I assume you're getting new tyres? Careful choice of tyres will help, All season Michelin Crossclimates or Goodyear all seasons will certainly help with a smoother ride while giving you confidence in summer and winter. You might find 4 suitable but scruffy wheels on eBay (or similar), get them refurbished and you will have as new wheels and tyres. Lovely!
