Replacing Yeti
Might be heresy but have you looked at Peugeot 2008? It has an excellent 8 speed auto box and engine is highly regarded.

Exactly, and unless you plan on carrying huge loads in excess of designed capacity stick to standard load tyres. No point in changing to 16" to gain better ride then compromising it with stiff sidewalls!

First thing to do is update your maps! Mind you I still prefer Waze or Google via Smartlink and use them in preference to the built in SatNav!

Having had 16" wheels on both my Yeti's I can confirm that they do provide a more comfortable ride. The big difference is that the ride is much less"jiggly" and smoother. An old friend has a Yeti with 17" wheels and the difference is really noticeable, particularly on our rutted and potholed roads. Drives fine. If you then add Goodyear or Michelin All weather tyres then it's even smoother. I've got Goodyear All seasons Gen2 and they are not only comfortable but also very quiet with greatly reduced road noise. Unless you're a boy racer then the change to 16" is a no-brainer.

Satnav SD card
Most “new” cards contain out of date mapping data - you just need to download newest maps from Skoda website ( see link in farty’s post) and update your new SD card. Easiest if you enter the VIN number of your Yeti and it then brings up latest mapping for you to download. On the same page there are videos of the updating procedure. Maps are updated twice a year to include latest road changes in that period. Only real advice is to give yourself plenty of time while the maps download, they are big files and depending on your internet speed can take over an hour to download. If you check the version info as Urrell advises (Setup on Amundsen then version info) then compare that version number with latest on Skoda website you will know if you need to update - which I think you will!

Have a look on-line at AutoExpress website, they regularly test replacement bulbs and recommend the brightest and best.

Tailgate - effort to close ??
Never had a problem and I am 74 years old with dodgy back and 5’ 7” tall. Suggests there is a problem with model you looked at - try another Yeti and see if that is easier then get dealer to solve.

Yeti 2017 compared to 2013
My 1.2 TSI DSG has averaged 44.8 MPG since new on a brim full to brim full basis. However it is very dependent on terrain and how you drive, also weather. If you cruise much in excess of 70 on the motorway the consumption increases, if you take full advantage of the spirited performance then consumption increases and if you are driving into a strong headwind consumption increases. None of which is surprising because the Yeti has the aerodynamics of a brick! However if you drive normally (okay can't influence weather) and generally run with the flow of traffic rather than having to prove your manhood by being at the head of the queue, then the Yeti can return excellent economy. Best consumption was over 46.5 on quiet rural roads on holiday in Norfolk, worst was 34 driving to Cornwall in the face of howling headwind at high speed on motorway for family emergency. Overall I'm pleased with consumption but really it's not a big deal for me as I only do about 9k per year.

I think the unique appeal of the Yeti is summed up by the continued activity in this Forum 3 years after the Yeti was axed. I have watched other forums for similar vehicles and there is less activity on them even though the cars are relatively new and in production. Must mean something!

That's exactly why we got electric seats, perfect seat etc positioning after quick change of drivers on a long journey - also on day to day variable usage. We also find an the dipping near side mirror very useful as well. However I think the rear view camera is the star attraction. I was lucky in buying new the SEL Drive variant at the end of the production run - lots of goodies included but still able to add extras. And, of course, Skoda (UK) intercepted the dealer factory order so I got the 16" wheels I wanted. All in all a great car that perfectly fits my needs.

Yeti 2017 compared to 2013
I did exactly the same and swapped a 2012 1.2 Tsi DSG Elegance for a March 2017 (latest manufacture I could specify options on) 1.2 Tsi DSG SEL Drive with electric seat, reversing camera and adjustable boot floor. Didn’t notice any difference in build quality, if anything the 2017 model is better finished than the 2012 version. Certainly the DSG is better sorted than on the 2012 model - smoother and imperceptible hesitation compared with the older version. But then Skoda had 5 years of technical refinement they could incorporate into the later DSG box so you would expect improvements. After 28,000 miles I have averaged since new 44.8 MPG (brim full to brim full) which seems to be as good as most modern similar vehicles achieve in real life anyway. I couldn’t find anything better to replace my old Yeti with - hence for first time ever I bought the same model again. Heavens knows what to do when this one needs replacing - flirted with thoughts of Kamiq, Peugeot 2008 etc. - but can’t see anything I prefer over the Yeti.

It seems that over the years Skoda has supplied tyres from different manufacturers at different speed ratings for the same vehicle. Basically anything at or above the specified minimum speed rating is fine. Checking back my first Yeti (2012 1.2 Tsi DSG) was supplied with V rated tyres, my latest Yeti (2017 1.2 Tsi DSG) was fitted with H rated tyres. Looking again at the speed ratings per tyre, H are approved up to 130 MPH. Now unless you are crazy and driving down a steep hill flat out you are not going to get anywhere near 130MPH in a Yeti - and at that speed in a Yeti your greatest worry won’t be the tyres but the hedge into which you are going to crash!

Just swapped to Kamiq from Karoq- delighted so far
Robjon, been having a good think this afternoon. My current Yeti SEL Drive has done less than 28k and I chose the exact options I wanted when I bought it new in March 2017, so, I have decided to keep it for at least one more year. Really it has everything I want and the elevated driving position I prefer. So, as my wife says, why change it - particularly as I bought the extended warranty? Guess I was hankering after a new car but realistically anything else on the market at the moment will be a compromise and a step back from the Yeti!

By contacting Skoda (UK) directly I had no problems getting both my Yeti's with 16" wheels rather than standard 17". You have to find the name of the Chief executive and email him directly, he will pass your request onto a Sales Exec who will intercept the dealer order and change so factory fits 16" wheels. Also got exceptional service from dealer and on pick up they all fell over themselves to make sure I had everything I needed. Dealer himself came to check that everything was perfect. Guess there was some liaison with Skoda HQ.!

2015 4x4 Black Edition - ok to have different tyres front to back ?
I've got those on my Yeti, superb with very comfortable ride and exceptionally quiet. Replaced having to change from summer to winter tyres twice a year.

Definitely good deal, but I wanted All Season tyres to avoid swapping winter to summer tyres twice a year so simple choice for me.

Thanks, I will have to take a test drive with my wife in the passenger seat, she has problems with her back and getting out of lower cars is a real problem. Focus, Golf, Astra etc. Also going to have a look at the new Peugeot 2008 which has had some good reviews. Otherwise the Kamiq is really attractive and can be had with all the extras I like, including electric seat, heated windscreen and leather interior in light colour. Conundrum!

My Yeti was supplied with EfficientGrips and very good they are. I changed to 4 Goodyear Vector 4 season Gen2 rather than swap between summer and winter tyres twice a year and I have to say they are superb. Very comfortable ride and much quieter than any other tyre I have had. Wholeheartedly recommend them if you can run to 4 tyres.

If you are particularly worried about being safe and totally in line with technical recommendations then you should really change all 4 tyres at the same time. While permissable it is certainly not good practice to have different tyres on the front and back due to their different driving characteristics. And definitely do NOT fit different tyres on the same axle, that's a real no no!

H = up to 130 MPH V = up to 149 MPH W= up to 168 MPH. Now, seriously, no Yeti is going to go anywhere near 130 MPH! My Yeti was delivered new with H rating tyres, why would you pay more for a speed rating massively in excess of any speed the Yeti is capable of achieving and a full 60 MPH higher than the UK speed limit? If yours was fitted with V or even W rated tyres then it was over speccing and probably those were the tyres that had at the time. I had an Octavia delivered with W tyres didn’t mean it was capable of anything like that speed or anyone would have been reckless enough to drive it at that speed. H tyres are actually the standard spec.

How do you find the driving height compared with the Karoq? The one thing that is putting me off the Kamiq is the low drivers seat height. I am used to a Yeti which has a much higher driving position so that I can just “slide-in” , when I tried a Kamiq in the showroom I felt like I was sitting down into the driving seat. Do you notice much of a difference because the Karoq is noticeably taller than the Kamiq?

Kamiq vs Scala
It seems VAG have decided that Skoda should be more plushly finished than VW's. New VW's have hard plastic cabins with no soft touches anywhere. Options are very limited and down market compared with Skoda. Skoda and Audi now the premium brands.

If you call or email Skoda(UK) directly and get to Sales Exec then they will intercept the factory order and arrange for you to get smaller wheels on the high spec models. I have done this twice with Yeti’s on which the standard wheel size was 17” but changed it to 16” without problems. Ride is so much better on higher profile tyres so heavens knows why manufacturers keep speccing silly low profile tyres which are frequently damaged by our rutted and pot holed roads.
