  1. Just be aware that the guard seems to double in size the moment you get it out of the car and try to store it somewhere!!!
  2. over the last 8000 miles mine has averaged 41-42 mpg. Measured brim to brim. Best I ever got was 45. Worst (holiday in Cornwall) was 36. maxidot says 46 average. It lies. 2.0 pd.
  3. Anyone know where the rear towing eye goes?
  4. Yes. The bodywork's all the same. It's just the extra suspension height and plastic wheelarch trims that are different.
  5. This may or may not be relevant, but here goes... My laptop has a slot loading CD drive (like car stereos really). I got a CD stuck in there a while back - it would try to eject, but seemed like it got stuck on the way out. The drive would then suck it back in. Turns out that if the CD is a slightly different thickness to normal (like a magazine freebie - thinner, or a CD-R - a bit thicker) or slightly warped it will get stuck on the case while being ejected. The solution was to insert a train ticket/thin piece of card into the slot, above the CD. Then press eject (this required a reboot then eject). The card "guides" the CD out.
  6. You need to take out the false floor to install the guard, but then the false floor goes back in. The sliding boot cover works with no problems. I can't, however, get into the tray thingy in the front of the boot cover assembly as the lid fouls on the dog guard.
  7. Surely your complaint should be directed to the place that sold you a towbar which was not of merchantable quality? Failing that, the Office of Fair Trading or similar?
  8. I've heard it said that the Scout 2.0 pd uses a smaller Garrett turbo that used to be used on the 1.9 130, not the turbo used on the rest of the 2.0pd cars . Apparently the smaller turbo keeps exhaust temperatures up so the DPF burns off the soot. NB/ this is just hearsay. All this talk worries me a little; I swapped from a BMW 320d partly because of reports of turbo fragility...
  9. ditto. I've got the boot floor and a 205/55 - 16 spare. Don't get running lights - you'll just look like you don't know how to turn off your foglights. Light assist is just a ploy to burn out your xenon bulbs quicker.
  10. I get something that feels a bit like transmission wind up. Happens when I change down to second for a tight turn, then accelerate gently through. Like a bit of an involuntary surge. I think it's probably the stupid springy flywheel they insist on fitting. The DMF also gives you next to no feel at the pedal so gearchange smoothness is a bit of a lottery...
  11. I got a lovely four wheel drift going on a recently "resurfaced" (the council had thrown a load of gravel on the road) stretch the other week. Overall, it doesn't handle like a BM, but it's better (grip especially) than I expected.
  12. Pics? How much does this kind of thing cost?
  13. Can't remember exactly, but a quick search on said website throws up a few results. Just be careful with part numbers, and don't get the ridiculously high colour temperature bulbs that make you look like a boy racer and actually put out a lot less visible light!
  14. A stealer will charge you like a wounded rhino to change a bulb. I found genuine Philips (OEM) HID bulbs on a well known online auction, 28 quid each. You can change them yourself, so long as you remember to have the ignition turned off (25kV can give you a nasty little shock!)
  15. The turbo does whistle a bit especially if you change gear at about 2k. If it's excessively loud, I've heard of cases of inlet tubing splitting or coming loose making whooshing noises. Both pd engines I've owned all but curled up and died past 3.5k rpm. Loads of "go" between 2 and 3.5 though.
  16. Unfortunately "John" is still there and still very rude. I bought an Octy Scout in Jan and the actual purchase was fine. I thought they were a bit too laid back (not pushy at all) but that could just be my opinion. Problem is, I noticed it pulling slightly on the way home after picking it up. I have a busy job so it took me a few days to call them to report it, but then John just said "It's more than 24 hours, you've obviously crashed it in the snow so it's not our problem." I can sort of see his point, but he was very rude in putting it across. Was I unreasonable in expecting them to give me the benefit of the doubt having just given them £15k for the car? They didn't want to know at all. I intend to keep this car for a while, so John has cost his employer a lot of servicing work...
  17. Be careful near the old Allsop station; the police are often there with their mobile tax (speed) trap.
  18. Xenons don't like cycling on and off. And they cost £250 a time to replace at a dealership!
  19. "If other drivers can't tell the difference between lights coming on (low beam) and being flashed (high beam), god help them. " You credit other road users with an intelligence most of them simply don't have. I don't use my auto lights for the reasons above. I'd like to think I can tell when it's gone dark...
  20. Auto lights are just a ploy to wear out our bulbs more quickly, and to confuse other people when they flash on and off in the half-light. Don't waste your money and time!
  21. I think there must be a sharp kink in the filler pipe that causes premature splash back. Stupid design I'm afraid.
