Rustynuts's post in Columbus firmware upgrade was marked as the answerHighest version you can load is 5270, but there's other possibly better options unless you know what you're doing. There's a version 5238 which has been modified to work with lots of different units, which might be a better bet for you. You'll also need new maps once you update the firmware as the hard drive gets formatted and wipes everything.

Rustynuts's post in MIB1 Nav - My Position icon missing, well I can't find it! was marked as the answerI've a feeling the button will only appear when your position is not centred on the map. So if your maps position moves away from where your car is (like it shows Germany) then the button will appear to allow you to recentre the maps on your position.

Rustynuts's post in OPC with RNS 510 was marked as the answerIn ta#hat case then you'll need to upgrade the PDC controller to OPS to get the display on the Columbus. The gateway will be okay, but as Phil points out it's easier to go with the option he volunteered.

Rustynuts's post in Diesel Fuel Filter Change - Blue Knuckle Duster? was marked as the answerIt's a gasket for where the lid fits onto the top of the filter. You'll see when you take the old one off (presuming you bought the correct filter of course).

Rustynuts's post in Re-coding when going from Stream to Stream MP3 Head Unit? was marked as the answerPut the old Stream unit in and scan the car (making sure there's no faults showing), then you should have a long coding number in the scan log for the car - Stream compatibility. Put the new Stream unit in, and apply the long coding taken from the old unit to the new unit. Save and exit.
That ought to do it.

Rustynuts's post in rns manager was marked as the answerRNS Manager only covers the RNS510 unfortunately. As I said in my reply to your PM, your options for the RNS310 are very limited.

Rustynuts's post in Columbus satnav on 2013 Mk2 Superb Elegance was marked as the answerMiles / Km is a setting on the car which is then used and adopted by Columbus. You can't change the Columbus to Km, but if you change the settings on the MFD to Km etc. then the Columbus adopts the same metric system

Rustynuts's post in Columbus - RNS 510, which version to go for? was marked as the answerTypo there mate. Should read part number 3T0 035 680 A.
Version differences across the range are essentially...
LCD screen versus LED screen (LED being the better), 30Gb hard drive versus 40Gb hard drive (more is better), later units get improved software which gives added features such as maps/Points Of Interest (POI) more customisable, radio text, and quicker processors / firmware as you get into newer units.
Then you get into DAB enabled units, SSD drive units, and then you're up to about the newest there is. There's many different software / maps versions available, but overall I'd avoid anything which says something along the lines of "upgraded to the latest / custom firmware" as it generally means someone has been mucking about with it. Maps can be updated on any unit without needing to customise the firmware. The VW RNS510 is essentially the same unit but with a VW splash screen and different colour leds for buttons on the unit. A VW one will drop straight in as well, so if you can get a better deal on one and can do with a few cosmetic differences then it's an option.

Rustynuts's post in Insurance after at fault accident was marked as the answerThe insurance has been cancelled for the car it was taken out on, but the car wasn't insured. The driver is insured, and the vehicle is noted on the policy as the car he's insured to drive. So when the car was written off the policy for driving that vehicle was cancelled but the driver is technically still insured (even though there is no car on the policy). You can replace the written off vehicle and have a new vehicle applied to the policy and they'll send you new documents with the new vehicle on them.
They can't penalise you mid policy for having an accident (other than your excess) and your no claims will continue until the policy ends at which time you'll have zero no claims. They will probably charge you a policy premium for a different car added to the policy mid term (based on the fact that you've had an accident) but that's the way they work.
