  1. Is the Adaptive Chassis Control an option yet on the vRS?
  2. Has anyone heard of a longlife conti cambelt break on a CR diesel ?
  3. If you have a service done a few weeks after it was due, does this invalidate the warranty? Thanks
  4. I've got a 3 year old 1.8 TSI manual Octavia, it was on variable servicing when I had it. I had a service after 2 years and then had it changed to fixed intervals. I'd only done 2.5k miles after 2 years, the invoice says it was a longlife service using longlife oil but I only got charged £130 due to the low mileage. I want to keep using longlife oil even though I'm on fixed intervals as I've read it's better for the turbo etc, would the next service be a Major or Minor one? I've had 3 quotes from local Skoda garages for a Service, brake fluid change and MOT - £264, £245 and £217. Why is there such a big difference in the quotes? The cheapest price was from the dealer where I had the 1st service but I'm not keen on them as they failed to find the fault with the air-conditioning compressor after 2 attempts and blamed me for not using it enough, plus I had to take it back to them after the service as some oil had dripped out. Would I be better waiting a few weeks until after it is 3 years old so that I can have the fixed price servicing? Thanks
  5. The Octy vRS TSI is actually lighter than the Leon ST TSI 180 and a second quicker to 60. The Leon TSI 180 hatch is lighter the vRS TSI but is still 0.7 second slower than the vRS.
  6. You could argue that the Seat Leon ST estate can be compared to the Octavia hatchback as the Octavia still has more boot space even in this form. Carfile have a Octy VRS Diesel for £20147, DTD have the Seat Leon Sport Tourer FR 184 for £20482 (I added spare wheel to both). So the Octy is better value in this example.
  7. But the company I work for should not be saying they are for 'duty of care' when they are quite clearly using them to bully their employees. GPS blocker devices are available but will obviously arouse suspicion if used regularly.
  8. Some companies also use trackers so they can bully their employers and try to say it's for "duty of care" but why don't the managers have them on their company cars?

  10. On the Drivethedeal site they charge for the Leon Technology Pack unless it hasn't been updated. Is the Leon FR DIesel a better buy if the extra space of the Octavia isn't needed as it's better value?
  11. Nobody has mentioned the Seat Leon FR Diesel 184hp, which is cheaper than the vRS, it has slightly better fuel consumption figures but doesn't have Xenon lights and DAB radio but the vRS doesn't have climate control, just air-con, plus no cruise control.
  12. I think their available on the vRS in some other countries.
  13. Auto Express vRS Diesel Review AE recommend having smaller alloys if you do lots of miles due to the noise above 40mph. Are 17 inch alloys a free downgrade option?
  14. After reading about Keypod and similar safe's, I think something like an 'Aquapac' is the way to go.
  15. I need to take a car key into water but I'm unsure whether to get a waterproof wallet for the normal key or get a spare key cut without the immobilser/remote part, so that I just unlock the door. Can I just go to a normal key cutting shop to get this and approximately how much would it be? Also if the normal key was left in the car could this invalidate the insurance? I've also seen this 'Keypod' where you can lock them to the toweye but I'm not sure if this can invalidate the insurance aswell. Any advice welcomed. Thanks
  16. None of the Audi's seem to use the 184hp diesel engine, they have an older 177hp version. The A3's most powerful diesel engine is the 150hp version according to their site.
  17. The Seat Leon with the 184hp engine has a kerbweight of 1345kg vs the Golf GTD of 1377 but has the same 0-60mph time. C02 is slightly higher for the Leon at 112g vs 109g.
  18. The Seat Leon with the 184hp engine has a kerbweight of 1345kg vs the Golf GTD of 1377 but has the same 0-60mph time. C02 is slightly higher for the Leon at 112g vs 109g.
  19. If you compare the Golf and the Octavia both with the 150hp diesel engine, the unladen weights are: Golf - 1354kg Octavia 3 - 1330kg But the Octy has the torsion beam rear suspension, whereas the Golf has the Multi-link. The Gross Weights are: Golf - 1860kg Octavia 3 - 1880kg In a Whatcar group test all performance times between the 2 were within a few tenths of each other. The Octavia was quicker in a few, including 0-60mph. I can't find any kerb/unladen weights for the Octy 3 VRS.
  20. It's a shame they don't do a Mazda 6 hatchback, it's a bigger car than the Octy 3 though, similar in size to a Mondeo. The new Mazda 3 should be out to soon but will probably still be short of space like the current one is.
  21. What's the difference in kerb weights between the Golf GTI/GTD and Octavia VRS TSI/TDI ?
  22. I've seen reviews of the Golf GTI on those sites but not any comparison tests, have u got any links? Plus, has anyone put it up against Autocar's top hot hatch, the RenaultSport Megane 265, current holder of fastest FWD time around the Nurburgring (M135i slaughters it in a straight line though!).
  23. Here's a M135i for 27.5K: http://www.autotrade...g?logcode=ucnnp The current best hot hatches rated by the car mags are the Megane RS 265 and the Focus ST. Are there any group tests available yet including the new Golf GTI? The Golf will always be rated better than Octavia but unless your driving on the limit all the time, are you really going to notice? Tiff Needell did a track test several years ago comparing the Golf GTI to the VRS, he described the differences between them and found the Golf to be one second quicker around the track, but his conclusion was that it wasn't enough to warrant the extra £3k or so for the Golf.
  24. The Performance Pack is only available on the GTI though not the GTD, so if u were comparing VRS Diesel to a GTD it wouldn't be a factor. Why anyone would want want to spend 25-30k on a Golf is beyond me when you can get so much more for that money.
