  1. Yup, agree, I popped out to the car to have a look, seem to be the same as those in the picture but on my Elegance they are in leather. Stewart

    burning oil?

That can't be a feature of the engine Lee, at £15 per litre the cost is going to mount up quickly. I've done 3291 miles in my CR170 and I've just checked the oil. At the top of the dipstick still. Different engine I know but it can't be right that yours uses so much oil. Good luck with the dealer. Stewart
  3. Too many other variables to answer. Type of snow, is it fresh or compacted, is there ice underneath, etc etc. But ultimately it's down to the driver. I managed OK on snow in a rear wheel drive Ford Escort in the 1980's. Stewart
  4. Hi Mac, My boat is called Genesis We don't know whether it's named after the band or the other thing. I would'nt mind it being named after the band if it were the Peter Gabriel era Genesis. :p My iTunes offers to "create aac version" which is why I was looking for an alternative method of converting to mp3 other than iTunes. A dig in iTunes, Preferences, General,Import settings showed that if I changed import settings to mp3 then right clicking a song gave me the option to create an mp3 version. Seems a bit strange that changing import settings alters what format you can create a copy in but there you go. Anyway Music Man did the job with a few clicks so I don't need to use iTunes. Thanx anyway. Stewart
  5. Summer or Winter tyres? An extra 0.2 of a bar if they're winter tyres. I put 36psi in mine when the car is fully loaded, it's been fine. Stewart
  6. There have been lots of posts about getting your music from iTunes onto a SD card to play in the Bolero in the Yeti but they have mainly focussed on Windows users (unless I've missed some posts). As an Apple Mac user with an 8GB SD card lying around I thought I'd have a go at transferring music from iTunes to the card to play in the Bolero. The Bolero will play only mp3 and wma? files and of course all my iTunes songs are encoded as .m4a files. I tried a couple of programs I found on download.com before coming across Music Man http://download.cnet.com/mac/rippers-converting-software/3150-2140_4-0-2.html?tag=page;page This is a 15-day demo version of the software but I figured I would only use it a couple of times. After you've installed it click on "Demo" on the start screen. It will convert m4a files to mp3 and copy playlists to the SD card you are using. From the main screen you can choose to convert the whole library of playlists, I thought I would try it out with the "On the Go" playlist that I think iTunes creates by default. I chose to convert and then copy straight to the SD card which might have been a mistake, it was certainly a mistake choosing "On the Go" . I set it off and went away as I reckoned it would take a while. Three hours later it was still converting and copy songs beginning with E (doing it alphabetically). I looked at the playlist in iTunes, Oh my gawd, 2132 songs. When I got up this morning it had finished and I had 8k of free space on the 8GB SD card and 2132 songs. Stuck the SD card in the Bolero in the Yeti and it worked, hit the mix button and that worked too. Most of my music is now on the SD card so I don't need to mess around anymore unless I want to setup some playlists. Obviously I can't choose artists or albums as it's just one big alphabetical list but I like to play my music on shuffle so this suits me. Stewart
  7. I just bought a set of genuine rubber yeti mats from a dealer in Sheffield. Good price, £31 and they fit well, even say Yeti on them. They are heavy and substantial. The worst bit was hoovering all crepe out of the footwells before putting them in. Parts chap offered me a discount on list prices if I bought mudflaps or a rubber boot protector as well but I'm not interested in either of them. Stewart
  8. The same happens to me, light up a gasper and the rain starts. Might not stop it but I'm thinking about putting Rain-X or something similar on the screen to see if it means I can do without the wipers which seem to be the reason the rain buckets through the drivers window. Stewart
  9. Fair enough, I don't have a commute so I don't have the same need to travel during bad weather and I couldn't persuade my wife to go anywhere on holiday that included cold and snow. Stewart
  10. I'm struggling to understand why you want winter tyres when you live in North London. Unless you have a country retreat up a mountain in Wales :S I thought about getting a set of steel wheels and winter tyres and I have the space to store them but I think I'd rather just stay at home when the weather is really awful. Stewart
  11. I've no idea if it serves any real purpose but I like the way the headlights do a dance when you turn on the ignition. It certainly turns heads when you've got your lights set to auto and it does it in a covered car park. Stewart

    burning oil?

Hi Lee, Your post made me go outside and check my oil. I remember a topic from some time ago ( July?) about some Yeti's burning oil and I went out and bought an expensive litre of it. Just dipped mine and it's a couple of millimetres below maximum level. Done 1600 miles in a 170BHP Elegance 4x4. I ran it in as per the manual but I'm thrashing it a bit now. Obviously we're not comparing like with like, yours being a petrol engine. Did you check the oil level soon after you got the car? There's always the possibility it was not full. Stewart

    5 days to go

You'll love it Lee, mind you it may spoil your enjoyment of other cars. I drove my wife's Mini Copper the other day and it felt really strange after the Yeti. Stewart
  14. Good idea Graham. One reason for going to an off-road centre would be to practice using the Yeti with the Offroad button on to see how I get on with it but some tuition would be good too, I wouldn't even mind paying for it. I'm off on holiday next week but I'll do some more research into 4x4 response when I get back. Stewart
  15. Last weekend there were signs all round the local roads saying "Yorks and Lincs 4x4 Response". I found their website and discovered they were having a weekend meet very close to where I live at Frickley 4x4 Offroad Centre. Their website is www.frickley4x4.co.uk . There are some scary photos of modified vehicles tackling some very serious terrain but they say they also cater for "regular road legal vehicles. You can just turn up and play for £25 a day or they can organise club days. Camping with facilities is also available. I quite fancy having a go at this in the Yeti, although not the tracks with four feet deep watercourses!!!! I might go myself as it's only a few miles away but maybe we could organise a Yeti day. For me that would have to be September onwards as I'm going to be away from next week until then. If anyone is interested I can give them a ring or call in and find out more and report on what the facilities are like. Stewart
  16. That's nothing, I once agreed to PX a "wreck" of a Ford Escort as I described it. The morning of the exchange I found someone had crashed into it and taken off a quarter of the front wing, and it wouldn't start. My neighbour towed me to the garage at the top of our road and I freewheeled down the slope of their forecourt, parked it and exchanged the keys for my "new" car. A lovely white Austin Allagro with the square steering wheel. To my surprise they said nothing about it. Stewart
  17. I think you can change it in the Bluetooth setup. If not you can certainly change the volume level of the radio at startup. It might be you've got it set too high anyway. All this is done through the radio. Stewart
  18. Now you know why most of us are raving about it. Bear in mind that the CR170 Elegance is the top spec diesel although the 1.8TSI petrol is supposed to go like s@&^ off a shovel as well. Yes, it's not the best looking car on the road but it's much better looking than a lot of 4x4's and more importantly drives the way you've discovered it does. Try hopping into a Hyundai Santa Fe for a drive, it's like a tractor compared to the yeti and so ugly. Stewart
  19. Hi, 1) On my CR170 Elegance unlocking using the remote flashes the indicators including the ones in the door mirrors twice and the caged canary under the bonnet chirps twice. Locking gives one flash and one chirp. 2) Best aircon/climate control I've had and on Elegance at least there's dual zone control. I keep mine on 19 and my wife has hers on 22, works well. Also doesn't seem to impact much on fuel consumption or engine power whereas on my Volvo V40 you could feel the loss of power when you switched the aircon on. Stewart
  20. My 170 seems more economical at 73mph than 60mph. I've only got 650 miles on the clock so it might change. Stewart
  21. Saw my fist Yeti on the move whilst in my Yeti. A Corrida Red in Thornhill near Dewsbury. Gave a flash and wave and got the same back. My wife thought I was nuts Stewart
  22. Unfortunately I've got an iPod Touch 1, no bluetooth, or I'd have gone that way. Stewart
  23. Hi, I have been mulling over how to play my music in the Yeti. Thought about doing the MDI myself, thought about an SD card. In the end I bought the £3.50 audio cable from Skoda (the belkin cable sold by Apple and others is £12.99 and up). Plugged in my iPod Touch, enabled Aux input in the Bolero, selected a playlist and shuffle. Result, my music playing on Bolero. The audio cable plugs in to the headphone socket on the iPod Touch but the quality is fine for a car (we're not going to get hi-fi in a car). I already have an in car charger so can charge the iPod as well. Stewart
  24. Lee, I'm surprised Penistone got through the profanity checker. I'm in the Dearne Valley. I've not seen another Yeti round here, but of course now I've got mine they'll suddenly become common as muck. Stewart
  25. Doh! Very realistic plastic cover on one nut on each wheel. Stewart
