  1. Could also be a faulty N75 valve or indeed MAP sensor. Might be worth trying to replace these before messing around with the turbo. The N75 at least is known to be needed to be replaced at least once in the cars lifetime. Does it come back on if you 'cycle' the ignition? Turn it on and off?
  2. With the new Firefox you can get a Skoda persona http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/gallery/All/search?p=skoda&search.x=0&search.y=0 You have to be using Firefox browser.
  3. Nice brakes! BTW what's the black (fairly clean -top middle) bar running across to the other side of the car in the rear photos? Looks like a roll bar of sorts. Are they only on the 4X4's? Never noticed one on mine.
  4. It is possible your MAP sensor is faulty but I would suspect the MAF first as other threads on this forum seem to suggest that. I changed mine because I had problems with the car going into limp mode. How bad is the fuel consumption? Have you checked for signs of a fuel leak somewhere?
  5. That seems expensive. I bought my MAP sensor from Skoda here in the UK for £42.00. Unless it's a different sensor. What's your part number. Mine is 038 906 051 B. Octavia 2004 90HP.
  6. Have heard these don't get all the crud out of the bottom of the sump and seems to be better the traditional way. Good idea about the filter though.
  7. Hi, My MAP sensor is here: What year is your car? Looks like the position is in a better one than mine.
  8. An alternative is Ebay. Stick in 'univeral armrest' as a search there's loads if you're not bothered about a skoda one. Have a mate who has one of these in an Astra and was quite impressed.
  9. My glowplug light comes on even in the hottest temperatures for a few seconds. Does that mean they are switching on and shouldn't?
  10. Just an outside guess but do you park it on a hill? I mean with the nose up? Had a mate once with a Citroen which wouldn't start cause of the hill and the fuel was flowing back to the tank. Anyway, could also indicate air in the system. FYI mine starts after a couple of turns and I always see a few bubbles in the pipe going into the pump so I assume that is normal. Maybe a few other members have ideas?
  11. Don't think there's a way to test but mine was 'tested' using SNAP ON test gear. The mechanic said it wasn't showing any reading so presumed this was causing my limp mode problems. I changed the N75 to be sure.
  12. Here's the MAP. Sorry for the scrawny writing on the pic. Cost was 36 +vat at Skoda. I considered buying one off Ebay for 25 quid all in but decided against it. N75 cost 29 quid +vat. I've also seen a few on Ebay but they cost more for some reason.
  13. Hi, Further to this thread http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/164456-wheres-the-map-sensor-located/page__p__2011555__fromsearch__1entry2011555 Have changed both MAP and N75 see pics: However, I broke one of the lugs on the N75 (old one thank god) as it was really tight to get off. Must have been on the car from new. Had to remove the screen washer bottle for improved access on the MAP. Lost one of the plastic nuts and had to remove the headlight to find it. The MAP sensor tip was oily (as in the pic) and was wondering if this is normal? Also noticed the sleeves for the screws on the MAP are metal. Is this so it can earth. I ask because had some diagnostics done and the MAP gave no readings but when I removed it the screws were very rusty. Was wondering if that could have caused the fault as it may need to earth? Will post again to see if it cures my 'limp mode' problems. Thanks
  14. Hi, I also have 90hp ALH engine. Performance wise I feel it pull in nearly all gears. In first I can clearly feel it push me back into my seat. and can easily get it into the 4000rpm mark (when hot as to dot his when cold could knacker the turbo). I do have an intermittent problem with power which could be VNT associated and feels like the turbo has been switched off. In this case it drives like you suggest i.e cant seem to get over 80Mph or 3000rpm. But the problem is extremely unpredictable. EG sometimes have it at low revs or high after a long run or short and hot and cold engine. I'm going to change either the N75 or MAP sensor or both to see if this helps. Both parts around 40 quid from Skoda. Had a fault code coming up which suggested it might be the N75.
  15. 'Its' is a contraction of 'it is' and therefore needs an apostrophe. So needs to be spelt 'it's'. Yeah, I know it could be a typo but I'm an English teacher by profession. Sorry.
  16. I've heard that they must be replaced as a complete unit if even only one of the guages fails. Maybe someone else could confirm?
  17. Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.
  18. What about hooking up my jump charger to the cig lighter to give the whole car power while i change the battery. Maybe it will hold the code during the change?
  19. The engine code is marked on the engine. Facing the car on the left side just under the engine cover.
  20. Can VAG-Com recode the radio? I want to change the battery and don't have the original code which will put the radio into 'safe' mode? Thanks
  21. I heard that the DVLA doesn't issue reg numbers with 666 in them and these can only be 'requested'.
